        Porque no los dos?

    • +3

Lol yeah folks just got back from a 14 day one to NZ and they got covid halfway thru.

      • +1

        how they doing?

        • +4

Yeah fine now - mum got it 7 days in, dad got it a couple of days after.
Not much fun being stuck in an interior room for a cruise but they made the most of it. They seemed to be looked after well and got nice meals delivered.

    • +6

i had no issues, and no one on the ship had it that i know of.

    • +3

Are people still scared of Covid?
They estimate 75% of Australians have already had it….

      • +19

yes thats nice but no one wants it when theyre on holidays?

I guess some people aren't too scared to go outside once in a while…

Nah man, there's clearly no reason to be scared of a barely understood disease that could potentially cause permanent organ damage across a huge range of your body.

You can't tell people that refuse to listen. Just be afraid and do what you're told. Never question how the mask laws that were supposedly critical to the very existence of life suddenly disappeared overnight without another thought. As you were. Nothing to see here…

I picked this up yesterday for $341 for a balcony cabin for two, with a $500 OBC. Got sent a targeted email. Says to use coupon code 'QAB' and quote your VIFP number. So if you've been on a Carnival cruise before, this code may work for you too. May be worth a call.

    • +3

Same deal on the cruise after as well, plus can go single occupancy on both for half the price and $250obc.

      • +4

Wow. They’re literally paying you to be onboard.

I feel like there’s this sweet spot at the moment of itineraries opening back up but prices still artificially low.

        • +1

My guess is they have not had the time to fill these cruises as they were only put in the market a few months ago so lots of spaces. That plus the recent mask requirement, ended on Jan 14th for now, vaccine requirements and specific insurance requirements for the island cruises have just kept these term time cruises occupancies low.

Definitely the deal of the decade at the moment, cheaper than staying at home.

          • +2

@Pobman: Carnival Luminosa doesn't have the water slides like the other Carnival Ships have, so that's keeping some families away too.

            • +1

@Trekky: True… the top deck was basically unused when we were on it, lots of space to put them in but it's not going to be until 2024 at the earliest apparently. The single family pool was tiny and crammed full, adult one at the back not so bad.

              • @Pobman: Rather jump off a cliff than get into a Cruise ship pool… but a steal of a deal !

      • How do you choose single occupancy

        • +1

When it asks you for guests, you just change it to 1 (2 is usually standard).

    • +1

Went on a Carnival cruise with family a decade ago, and I was able to find my "VIFP" number and get the discount. insanely cheap, wish I had the leave.

    • Is it possible to dm me the email/msg. I would love to give them a call tomorrow

    • Where do you enter coupon code?

You can join VIFF club here
      https://www.carnival.com.au/ProfileManagement/Accounts/Regis…

    • Where do you enter promo code?

      • +1

You can't. It based on the account. You can update the url but it will show as sold out

      • Would also like to know.

Signed up for their VIPF club, but no dice on the deal within the comments…

  • +5

The itinerary sucks for visiting places. Great deal if you like partying and chilling on the boat!

  • +2

i need something coming out of sydney, thanks

  • +2

Where's the moral police? I thought cruises were extremely bad for the environment?

Last one I went on sucked, but want to give it another chance, but being stuck on a rocking boat for days, not my thing.

    • +2

It’s pretty shocking but so is flying and no one gets up in arms about that

Although to be fair cruising is per kilometre about three times worse in terms of co2e than flying

      • +2

        Much worse:

A luxury cruise ship releases ten times more carbon emissions than all of Europe's cars. A 3000-capacity cruise ship generates 150,000 gallons of sewage and graywater, enough to fill 10 swimming pools

        • +1

Not to mention the terrible damage they do to history cities like Venice. Really pretty nasty all round.

  • +3

    Nothing from Melbourne?

  • Do they count children in Guest total or just adults..FYI, I have two children, 7 yr and 3yr old. Total is coming as $1700 for 4 guest and balcony room.

    • Every person regardless of age is counted as a guest.

I do recommend at least the balcony room for comfort. And cool fresh air when needed.

    • Still pretty good imo. Shame in my case there never seems to be an option for family of five.

  • +3

Usually no discount for kids. However 3rd and 4th passengers in same cabin are usually discounted. Kids club on a cruise is fantastic. The kids will have a great trip as will you.

Make sure you talk to your pharmacist about medications (antihistamine based ones are great) for seasickness for you and the kids. Ginger tablets are good for very mild seasickness. Take early if you develop symptoms. The medications are better at prevention than cure.

    • +1

If you have a family of 5, do they have enough room to fit all or do you have to get 2 rooms? I haven’t looked into this yet as School will just start again, but do they ever have decent prices within school holidays too?

Would love to try going on a cruise but it can be a bit overwhelming.

      • +1

They require an 18+ yo in each room when you book so if necessary you book the rooms with one parent in each room. Once on board they really don’t care if you have both parents in one room and kids in the other - as long as kids are old enough to fend for themselves overnight. If you’re fortunate you can get adjoining rooms with doors between rooms. If you get two balcony cabins you can ask them to open the divider between balconies which is an alternate way of accessing other room

        • Thanks for tips

  • +9

Got offered this for $192 pp for a 2 person balcony room, with $500 onboard credit. Can't manage the dates though. Went on a 3 day cruise after xmas on it, and it was good. My 5 year old enjoyed the kids club, gaming room, swimming pool/hot tubs and the on tap ice cream machine and pizza. The spa with hydrotherapy, steam room, sauna etc is really good too for adults. Shows and comedy club were good too.

I also just came back from a Royal Caribbean last week, and didn't catch Covid on either sailing.

    • living the dream!

    • +1

how did you get this offer?

    • +1

$192pp during school holidays, that’s cheap!! Where did you get the deal from? 3 days sounds good for starting out. I’m not sure how my kids will go with 7 days.

      • +4

School holidays is finished now here in Queensland, so it's probably why it is cheap. If you sign up for their free VIFP and go on a cruise you get all these silly offers.

If you do cruise on this ship, pay the extra $65pp for Fahrenheit 555 a few nights. It's an excellent restaurant and the food (especially filet steak) is very very good. 3 course menu, and they let us try more than one dish each course when we couldn't decide.

        • I’m not from QLD so there will be flights & accommodations to consider on top of cruise costs. Still would want to do a trip soon when kids are still young. What’s best time of year to go on cruise? Around Jan holidays for warm & calm waters?

        • $65 for the 3 course meal was well worth it!

  • How do we get a membership number, Can anyone share it?

    • +2

I think you get one after your first cruise

  • +12

I went on this ship in December with my daughter.
Food was RSL food at best, and accomodation is small 3 star accommodation (twin balcony room).
Won $1300 on the pokies, tested positive for Covid 2 days after getting home 5/7 would cruise again.

    • Queen of the nile?

  • +3

I just came back from a cruise on this ship. I like how people always talk about gastro. I've been on six trips so far and no one in our party has ever got gastro. The ship is probably cleaner than some of homes of people you meet day in and day out.
I unfortunately got COVID on the last day of the cruise. (not bad considering it was my first time catching it and i was traveling with my two young children)

Speaking about the ship, its not too bad, a little dated as its an ex Costa ship. Doesn't have anything special like water slides etc, but if you're there for the shows and to sit back and relax, its still a good ship. The buffet could have been better. The 'paid' restaurant was well worth it, food was amazing there.

tl:dr;- great price and i'd recommend it.

    • argh, so tempted to pull the trigger on this. $196 for a balcony room (single travel, leave wife and kids at home) + $500 room credit…. They're pretty much paying me to go lol….

  • +1

    Royal Carribean are better.

    • +1

Until you get on board and everything is charged in USD. I know a 'cruiser' who did one recently, they complained relentlessly about this.

      • Aside from the conversion fee, which is like 2% I really not see the issue with USD? I don't think it's too hard to do a mental conversion.

        • +4

          Just got back from RCL:

1/ Yes everything is in USD
2/ Mandatory tipping (I think $16 USD per day per person inc kids), levied to your account AFTER you are provided with your final statement, I am sure to minimise onboard complaints (ie nice credit card surprise the day you disembark)
3/ Photos of i-fly experience now excluded from all photo packages (separate purchase $99 USD for digital photos of your i-fly experience)
4/ Pre-paid arcade credit for kids, does not preclude the kid from overspending the pre-paid limit @ $2 USD per game , no way to check credit balance in the arcade (have to line up at guest services), by which time said kid has clocked up another $60 USD in cost.
5/ High speed "surf and stream" internet simply does not work due to packet loss / over capacity (something like $25 USD per day), only good if you want to log in at 4am before everyone wakes up and checks their insta/facebook.
6/ 3 of 4 port days cancelled (not the cruise liners fault if there is bad weather) - $300 USD refund (from a $10k cruise) provided, bit of a slap in the face to give so little back (didn't even cover the additional spend on food and drink while on the boat for the extra days) ie/ Skipping port days actually makes RCL more money due to boredom induced onboard spending.
7/ Formal night(s) no longer have a special menu (ie no free lobster or whatever used to be available on formal nights only etc)
8/ Limits on meal/dish ordering at specialty restaurants (ie no more all you can eat at the nicer restaurants - hint: At Jamies Italian starters are still unlimited)
9/ Bingo is $42 USD for the cheapest game, if you want to play (plus $3 usd for the pen)
10/ Non alcohol drinks package is basically just soft drink + juice + coffee (previously other drinks were available), $42 USD per day, you really have to inhale iced-lattes all day to get value.

No more slippers or robes (even at mid tier crown and anchor members), no more individual toiletries (bottle of bodywash/shampoo/conditioner) screwed on the wall per caravan park standards.

I'm still a big RCL fan - but if you have cruised previously and "assume" history will repeat, you'll be peeved, some things have changed (for the worse)

          • @jason101: Good to know about all the fine details for going on cruises.

          • +1

            @jason101: Nothing wrong with USD.
I am not sure how you got mandatory tipping, it is already included in the price if you book in AUD, no surprise for me when I cruise last month.
You can check the spending on your TV in your room.
Internet is more dependent on location of the ship more than anything, I was able to watch Youtube fine most of the time.
I have never gotten free lobster on any cruise so no change there. I know they are a thing in the US, but never had it in AU.
Not sure what other non alcohol drink you wanted?
There were never slippers or robes as far back as 2018.
No inidividual toiletries since 2018 as well for me.

            • @Scyl: Fair points - obviously a different experience, but can confirm tipping is not included in your fare now when booked in aud, levied after disembarkation and in usd. Sorry I should have clarified yes if you book in aud clearly this is what your base fare is, but once onboard all onboard spend is all in usd, not a criticism just something to be aware of. Mocktail/bubble tea/cheese tea previously available on non alcohol package (understand this varies by location, but no extras or substitute for oz based ships). Very hard to check arcade credit status from the room tv, note there is a credit checking point in the arcade (Ovation) but it does not reveal prepaid remaining balances, only allows top ups. Robes/slippers, toiletries etc vary per room type and crown and anchor membership status, but are now all harder/impossible to attain. Ie I had them before and now don’t get them.

During the “ask the captain” event a couple of these points were raised by cranky travellers (probably not the most appropriate time or person to ask) and the captain said, “we’ve been in shut down for years, have taken on huge debt, had huge holding costs, we have to make it up as best we can”….can’t argue with that.

  • +4

I'm on it right now. Scored a trip for 4 for $1300

    • How?

      • Extra people in the room are like $100 each

      • +1

Was a black Friday deal. Also I forgot to mention on a balcony too with $50 credit.

        • So Black Friday deal gets u cheap price plus travel during January school holidays? Will remember this tip for later this year.

  • -2

Is that on the ship "Carnival Covid" or "Carnival petri dish" :)

  • +2

Cheaper than rent! Do you need a passport if you don't leave the boat? Are meals included (don't care how bad they are)?

    • You need a passport and also have to have insurance that covers covid and cruising, they specifically check that before you board.

      • Thanks.

  • +1

We just got back today 8 nights on the splendour. Was great! No one got sick. As the poster above says it's way cleaner than most peeps houses. RC is better but this is pretty cheap and these deals are unreal

  • +1

I have something on on the 11th otherwise I would have definitely gone

  • Which insurance that covers Cruise and covid?

    • -1

Many now actually, I recently used Auspost as an example.

    • +1

Not that many, and some it's not obvious if they cover. We ended up using Qantas which definitely do. For going to the islands Carnival insist that Cruise and Covid cover are mentioned on the certificate… otherwise they can sell you another policy at the terminal if needed.
