Chicken Portions with BBQ Rub 1.75kg - 3 for $20 (5.25kg Total), Minimum $50 Spend for Online Orders @ Coles

3811

This is my first deal I've ever posted so hopefully I've done it correctly.

Found this when making an online order the other night, arrived today and was very surprised that it was correctly advertised.

Effectively you can get 5.25Kg of Chicken portions with BBQ rub for $20, works out to ~$3.80/kg. All the other "any 3 for $20" items in this are around 500g so was very surprised to see the chicken portions as they are normally $8.50/kg so the discount works out to better than half price!

Here is the direct link to the online item it's advertised in the weekly catalogue so I assume its available in store too although the chicken portions are not specifically mentioned, neither are several other items available in the mix and match. I ordered 3x 1.75kg packs and they arrived and I was charged $20.32 for 5.347kg.

  • I want chicken tonight 🐔

    Thanks OP.
Got 3 packs from in-store. had to debate for 5 mins with the manager.

  • Upvoting a chicken deal

  • Time to open up my own popup uber eats Korean fried chicken joint from home.

  • Ordered 9 delivered. None available. Substituted for 7x1.4kg Chicken Breat Fillets and some drumsticks and whole boneless chicken etc. Guess I'm cooking up a vat of Parma tomorrow!

  • Bought 3 in store (as well as a few other things for a 1200 points for $30 spend offer), sure enough it didn't scan as 3 for $20 so lady got on the phone then manually put it through as $20 for 1.

  • You can get another $10 cashback if you are ordering online, just create a new coles account

  • Ordered 6 for pickup. Given 1 and 5 substituted for southern fried

    Still a cracker deal

  • +1

Just got my Coles online order delivered today and they didn't even include the chicken wtf? And not even a replacement just nothing

    • +1

You wouldn't want a replacement, because they'd give you something with a huge unit price, instead of the bargain they tricked us with. Not given in my order either. So I cancelled and did not pick it up.

  • +2

I got a dodgy substitution instead, boneless chicken which is fine but less than 10kg vs the 14kg I ordered and only ~$100 in value rather than the ~$120 in value I ordered (paid $53). I understand the weight might not be the same especially when boneless, but at least the value should be similar.

  • +1

I scanned them at checkout, and it didn't discount. I asked for assistance, and they said those aren't included. I showed them the website, and they were surprised, but didn't honour it. So now I'll try ordering online.

Similar case here. I checked out at Burnside with 3 packs. The assistant reluctant to accept what I got are what shown on the web. She called the meat department. No show after nearly 10 mins so she had to authorise it so I would stop blocking the counter.

      • You could have offered proof via Coles online, as it shows there, although when ordered there is "oddly" none available.

        • I tried that and they flat out refused to honour the online price

  • Thanks OP, but Coles has again behaved dishonestly. Went online and ordered this chicken, but had to order a min of $50 for click and collect. Lo and behold, today the ONLY item that wasn't available was the chicken. No mention of this last night. Thank goodness I checked no substitutions, or the dishonest turds would have ripped me off again. Beware ordering anything from Coles, they've gone downhill with their lack of ethics. Sent them an email to cancel the whole order. No doubt they'll fight about that. Avoid.

You could also just call the store to have the whole order cancelled (even if you ticked for substitutions), which I did with the chocolate deal after what they substituted wasn't worth to me. If they try to fight it just say you wouldn't have bought the other stuff if you had known the chicken would be unavailable, or the substitutes they offer wouldn't be equivalent in value.

Thank goodness I checked no substitutions, or the dishonest turds would have ripped me off again.

We made the mistake of ticking substitution. They substituted with 3 packs of 980g of boneless chicken instead of 1.4kg AND charged full price for each pack. Wasted 1hr on phone with customer care who refused to refund the difference. Got told to go instore to sort it out instead. Got to store and was told we should have sorted it out with customer care because it was an online order. Manager came out and was nice enough to refund the difference on the spot, plus a free pack for their mistake. 3hrs of my life I will never get back because of incompetence and laziness on customer care part.

  • +1

Went instore and grabbed 3 packs. Register didn't discount and showed staff of on their website. They marked it down manually for me. Great deal!!

    • -2

Not really, per their scanning policy you should have got that for free.

      • It's an online deal and coles generally do not match online deals in-store

  • Did click and collect. No chicken available, no substitutes either.

  • +1

Ordered 6 for click and collect. Just picked them up, no worries. Thanks heaps Op! Dinner sorted for a month or 2.

  • Visited a few stores in Sydney and all out of stock! The only one that has stocks didn't want to honour it saying it's online only. Luckily got a $5 discounted roast chicken instead

  • Got 3 packs but for some reason they charged me $20.76 not $20 - Coles made an adjustment after my order was processed.

Also its all shortdated (Jan 29 to 31 use by)

    • check the total weight if it’s more than 5.25 kg if it is, that is why

      • 5.463kg

If you are correct, why shouldn't it still be 3 for $20?

Coles refused any refund of any sort. It was my first order with Coles Online and will be my last.

        • +1

they charged you the correct price per kilo rate based on 19. 98 per 5.25 kg

          My Total was 5.9 kg
It was prorated to match the rate of $19.98 for 5.25 kg and charged $22.3.

No loss of money on our part. But I did think the same as you when I got the email confirmation and it was more than $20

The only way you could have got it for $20 was if you went in store and they didn’t pick up that you had the extra mass.

  • +1

Got substituted for 3 packs with 3x 1kg of whole boneless chicken Asian style bbq rub instead. Short-changed me on weight as my invoice said I was supposed to get 3.5kg worth, but managed to get a $8.74 credit out of it. Shame it's only usable online/pickup only, so likely have to go through the whole $50 min spend/item substitutions all over again.

  • So any suggested cooking method/recipe people are using these for? (Ignoring the basic 'pop it in the oven for 30 mins')

    • Haven’t tried these portions yet, but have air fried marinated portions in the past

    • We just did 180 degrees (fan forced) for 40 minutes. In a roasting dish with baking paper.

Have to say they are pretty good. BBQ rub is a little spicey, but not too strong.

  • yeah unable to order it as none in stocks available

  • +2

So I got a partial refund after complaining about substitution not being adequate, in the end I got almost 10kg of boneless chicken for $39

  • Yep. It does exist but (in most cases) only if you order online. Tried Coles Melb Eastern suburbs as I just happen to be there and they had 3 packs but no mention of the deal. Great I thought but when they scanned them at the checkout they only went through individually. I showed the staff the 3 for $20 information and they flat out refused to honour it. They said it must only be an online thing.
So I left and ordered online and picked up next day. Such a stupid waste of everyone's time. The trouble is that the date on the packs is only 3 days away (short dated) so unless you are planning to eat 5kg of chicken you might want to freeze the stuff you aren't going to use straight away.

  • +1

I got a partial substitution with 1 fulfilled and 2 x 800g chicken drumsticks. Disappointing.
Seems over a third of the items in my order have been substituted for something else too. Is this normal?

    • +1

      Very normal.
Coles click and collect is absolutely horrible.
Minimum $50 spend vs $30 with Woolies
Coles online has no affiliation with in store. Online tell you one thing, in store tell you to deal with online and nothing to do with them.
I've had a heap of items not in stock and arrived for my pick up to find they bought out a coupe packs of microwave popcorn and a tin of tuna.
Apparently they sent an email 5 minutes before, telling me this, that I obviously didn't get whilst driving.
Coles click and collect is probably the worst for customer service.

  • Ordered $50 worth of stuff including $20 worth of chicken, selected that I did not want substitutes. When I picked up C&C, only got one pack of chicken and was charged $6.38 for it. Didn't bother arguing. Cooked it over a wood BBQ firepit. Tasted pretty good.

  • +1

Surprised my order got honored and actually delivered without any substitution. Ordered Friday for Saturday delivery. They taste surprisingly good and have 1 week expiry.
Overall one of the better online coles experience yet. Normally got a fair bit of cancellations & substitutions

  • +1

Just got 5kg worth today. Thanks for sharing OP!

    • +1

glad its still working for some!

  • +1

Wow, so I got 4 (1.75kg each) packs substituted for 4x1kg of boneless asian style bbq, Had to contact them for a refund on the difference in weight. The first person i dealt with on the online chat has to be the worst chat experience i have ever had, it was really odd. The person kept saying they are checking my records and it took more than 20 minutes for this to happen, 15 mintues of which was no response to my multiple messages saying if the connection is still live. Then they said, oh final invoice says you will be refunded , have you checked it, I said i have, there is no mention of refund . Then he kept saying its there and i will be refunded in 5 days, and i said i am looking at it. ok Thank you, let me know if you require any help. I said wait, its not resolved, and he said ok, thank you for using coles and hung up.

Not sure what was going on with that person but he just wanted to get off, he was busy with something at home i take it and thats why he disappeared for 20 minutes of the chat. And ignored my last few messages and cut me off. I went back on and got another person, they checked and said there is no refund and there has been a mistake made as i should have been provided a partial refund and they will process it now. And I was told it will take 1-2 days for it to comethrough. Got $13 back.

  • Item you ordered: 3x Coles RSPCA Approved Chicken Portions With BBQ Rub approx. 1.75kg
Item we supplied: 5x Coles RSPCA Approved Chicken Whole Boneless Herb & Garlic approx. 850g

The replacements ended up being around 1kg each, so it was close enough and they are boneless as well. So I'm not really complaining, but looks like others in a similar situation are feeling cheated?

    • You got more items to make up for the weight difference, Others didnt.

  • +1

Picked-up 2 days ago and cooked & enjoyed it tonight.
    Well marinated and tasty.

I will buy it again if it has the same promotion again.
However, I'm not gonna pay RRP because whole chicken is much cheaper and this package has only drumsticks and thighs.
