Chicken Portions with BBQ Rub 1.75kg - 3 for $20 (5.25kg Total), Minimum $50 Spend for Online Orders @ Coles

3811

This is my first deal I've ever posted so hopefully I've done it correctly.

Found this when making an online order the other night, arrived today and was very surprised that it was correctly advertised.

Effectively you can get 5.25Kg of Chicken portions with BBQ rub for $20, works out to ~$3.80/kg. All the other "any 3 for $20" items in this are around 500g so was very surprised to see the chicken portions as they are normally $8.50/kg so the discount works out to better than half price!

Here is the direct link to the online item it's advertised in the weekly catalogue so I assume its available in store too although the chicken portions are not specifically mentioned, neither are several other items available in the mix and match. I ordered 3x 1.75kg packs and they arrived and I was charged $20.32 for 5.347kg.

Well done, look forward to another post in 8.5 years!

Seriously though, good find. Have an upvote!

      lol thanks!

    • +8

The amount of upvotes so far is probably the same as an average user gets in 8 years haha

      • normally only see that many upvotes for an ebay 20% off or something post.. not for chicken

  • Well done

    Boneless?

    • +12

      Chickenless

    • No, has bones.

      • Not even one?

        • +1

          Cash, no…no cash.

$50 min on click&collect 🥲 15kg of chicken it is

    • I contemplated doing this but settled for the tin of formula we need anyway haha

    • +31

i… ive just done this… LOOKS LIKE MEATS BACK ON THE MENU BOYS!

  • +13

Was 3.5 per kg when its first out soon become 4 then 4.5 then 7.5

  • I thought about getting this last week, but one of the three packs they sent me (four burger patties) had a best by date of 2 days and I had to chuck it in the freezer.

  • How would one go about finding out which rspca approved chicken brand the chicken is from

    • +2

The real question, is it real chicken…

    • Really hard to find out - not 100% sure about Coles but Woolies definitely has two suppliers at least providing for the state to diversify against supply issues. The stores probably couldn't even tell you, once it goes to their DC it's all the same stock. I believe Steggles supply the majority of Coles though.

    • Are there any other suppliers apart from Steggles and Ingham?

      • Turi, Hazeldene, Lilydale, and then some really small independents - majority of supermarket branded chicken is Steggles and Inghams, but as above there is a little bit of diversified supply from the others

  • +2

nice price. Too bad minimum purchase is $50 I struggle to fill my cart since I like to do weekly shop at Aldi

    • +7

Why not buy a few things from Coles instead of Aldi this week?

    • Yeah that increase from $30 to $50 means click and collect isn't as useful for me anymore. They used to have the min spend lower and it was an advantage against Woolworths too.

  • +1

    Good for sous videing?

    • They're pieces of chicken with bone in.

  • -7

I once had. BBQ rub. True story.

  • These are the ones that are mostly wings and drum sticks yeah? No breast pieces.

    • +1

      Correct, thighs and wings mainly.
      Average really….

    • The pack I bought last week had no wings. It had 5-6 drumsticks and 4 of the other bigger portions, which I cannot remember the name of, lol.

      • +2

        Possibly Maryland?

        • -1

Cheers, that's the one, its a Maryland without the drumstick.

          • +6

            @revheadgl: That's a thigh :D

Maryland is the name for the drumstick still attached to the thigh

            • @DivZero: Ah, I see. Thanks!

              • @revheadgl: It's drumstickless Maryland

                • @z28: I give up, lol. From now,I shall call it 'the piece of chook I least like in the pack' !

  • Can anyone recommend product for good rub and how do I do it?

    • +1

depends what type of rub you're after

      • +9

The one that gives happy endings and feelings on the tongue

    • Check out 'Full Throttle' in Newcastle. They do mail order. They have @ 3 to 400 different Sauces and Rubs that I have not seen before.

      Also USA Foods in Victoria.
I have noticed some Rubs at Colesworth from the likes of MAsterfoods, but they are generally designed for single use, and not good value for money.

Otherwise, just do a search on Amazon, if you want to avoid freight costs (If you have PRime). EG BBQ Rubs

  • Can anyone confirm if it works in store?

    • +4

Unable to purchase in store (Warradale SA). Scanned at $45 at the self service. After showing staff the coles website confirming 3 for $20 deal, they were confused and stated it may be an online or a click and collect only special.

      • +2

I had the same issue, I was just about to enable Karen mode when they wouldn't honor the price in store (St Clair, SA) until my wife mentioned that it's actually in the weekly catalogue. Cue me walking out of Coles with fat stacks of cheap chicken!

    • My local has the 3 for $20 signs up in the near section and on the relevant products it’s also in the catalogue, they had the stickers on the chicken packs at my local advertising it. Just didn’t have long enough expiry to justify me buying 3 packs

      • My local in Doncaster East Victoria had the signs and empty shelves lol

    • Does not work in store in QLD. Same as magicpelgrave mentioned, tried doing self service and staff were confused. Ordered 9 packs for $60 click and collect so hopefully it goes through. They had 6 on the shelf and hopefully more out back.

      • You can just order 8 to pass the $50 minimum amount, they charge $6.67 each pack after 3 packs.

This is my first deal I've ever posted so hopefully I've done it correctly.

    The sleeper cell.

  • Well Done. The $50 min spend is a bit of a catch but cannot beat the 3 for $20 !

  • I keep getting 'technical difficulty' message on checkout. Anyone else getting the same? Both website and app

  • +1

This chicken tastes a bit like chicken

  • Thanks OP. Good value with great sodium level per serve :-) Sodium 886.73

    • +2

They rub that on so you can easily rub it off 😉

  • +3

Scanned 3 in store, came up as full price. Manager confirmed that it's a pricing error ("someone put a per kilo item in the 3 for 20 special! Lucky you") but honoured it for me. Might need to get in quickly lad(ette)s…

Bonus: checkout chick accidentally scanned 2 instead of 3, ended up with 5.25kg for $13.33. $2.54/kg, goodness me

    • +8

checkout chick accidentally scanned 2 instead of 3

      That was not an accident.

You received the first pack free as per Coles’ Promise on Price Scanning (which is what the manager would have actually been honouring).

  • $14.88 before it becomes a great deal financially hmmm

  • We're having issues loading your trolley
Please try again. If still unsuccessful, contact Customer Care for support.

Hopefully this is just me. Might be dead?

  • Item can't be added.
I think its not working anymore.
    Can someone else confirm

  • I might try my luck in store

  • The invoice shows $2.94/kg. So it actually cost $15.4 for the listed quantity.

Tried to do a C&C… chicken got cancelled so now have to go and collect some milk and fruit… Took an L on this one

    • Hate when that happens

    • You could've had the rest of the order cancelled too…

    • -1

How much chicken did you order? I gave them a call and they said mine was cancelled due to being a bulk order (bought 12)

  • Wouldn't do it in store. Told Online only. Placed order for click n collect, see what happens.

    • received via click and collect.

  • went in store and they wouldnt honor it
said online specials are different to in stores even though i said i cant check out…
will try to call customer care

  • just ordered online works fine NSW

  • Ordered along with $30 worth of stuff I didn’t need to qualify for the click and collect $50 minimum.

    Now play the waiting game.

  • Worked fine for me - QLD

  • -2

Had my order cancelled 5minutes prior pickup time frame, only ordered 12 which didn't seem like enough to put them out of stock…

  • +1

Purchase in store (Melton VIC). Scanned at $45 at the self service. After showing staff the coles website confirming 3 for $20 deal, they did a price override for $5, $5 and $10 each. Win Win for me

  • Oh boy its much healthier than the chocolate deal before. I had given away most of the chocolates and there were some happy colleagues, this time is chicken I guess.

    • No happy colleague as they don't honor this.

  • Doncaster Westfield wouldn't honour in store

  • order cancelled

    • Cancelled??

      • Yes, ordered for free del and few hours later receive email with - order cancelled.

  • This and the tomato and herb variety are my go to - chicken is good and tasty!

  • Coles Earlwood wouldn't honour it. This crazy cat lady at checkout tried to accuse me with her temperament.

  • -2

Order was cancelled due to being considered "Bulk", ordered 12 of them. Phoned support said that bulk orders need to be placed 4 days prior.

  • Item is currently unavailable. Cannot be added to cart.

  • Thanks OP

Ordered 4 for delivery tomorrow morning.
    Hopefully will get it.

Filled the rest of the 50 dollar min with half price four n twenty’s and Heinz sauce.

    • Got 3 delivered. Total was 5.9 kg
It was prorated to match the rate of $19.98 for 5.25 kg and charged $22.3.

      Thanks OP, great deal.

  • -1

Just tried in Coles Patterson Lakes and FAILED. The shop manager insisted it's a online deal so I had to go home and oder online.

Got 6 container of the chicken for $40 and fill the rest $10 dollar with things I may or may not need lmao.

Thanks for the great deal OP.

  • +2

If any of you have any issues in store with them trying to say it's online only, remember that it is literally in the catalog with a list if you can click showing everything included. You can bring it up on your phone and show them.

Since it scanned incorrectly you are able to get the first one free as per https://www.coles.com.au/help/products-offers/products-scann… policy

  • Thanks for posting. No luck for me in-store and it's unavailable online. It just been ozbargained :)

  • Got 3 instead of 5 ordered, substituted by southern style…. Plus got colgate water pik as well as installation as well…. Thanks OP https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/751764

    • I was substituted 4x 850g boneless herb and garlic.
At least the good news is most of the order didn't arrive so I was partially refunded.

I thought it was a bit rich of Coles to substitute such a large amount of chicken for about 50% of the chicken weight…. bloody crap online shopping :)

  • That was an easy minimum $50 spend for pickup - three lots of chicken, 12 litres of milk and four Golden Gaytime brownie mixes also on special that I'd have been buying anyhow. Dinner sorted for the next couple weeks!
