    Great cams

I disagree. The quality is disappointing and the app is clunky. Yes these are the non pro version and obviously the non wired ones are lower quality than wired. Probably good for the price though.

      • +6

        I disagree.

The footage displayed is fine and the app is the easiest to use out of all the previous camera setups I've had.

In fact the easy to use app is the main reason I chose to go with ring.

Don't know why you would say the app is clunky, when it's probably the best out there.

I've had ring cameras for some time now and they keep getting better with each software update. I purchased a Eufy camera recently to try to try and save money on subscription fees but I'd rather pay $15 for a far superior product IMO.

Heads up to those who don't have Ring already, to use all the features there is a subscription fee. (See Below)

Without the sub you can only see in real time. No recordings.

This should be mentioned in every security cam deal.

Assuming it's applicable, there are some that don't use this model.

A visit to ipcamtalk forums you'll quickly learn that these nest and ring cameras are all junk, mostly due to this subscription model.
A serious installation will use either Dahua or Hikvision.

        • +3

I would argue that these types of cameras compared to Dahua or Hikvision have different use cases.

Ring/Eufy and so forth are entry level that anyone can install without problems.

I believe the set up and installation of Dahua or Hikvision cameras are a lot more intimidating for the average joe.

That along with the pricing as well.

I'd say its like comparing a Honda to a Lamborghini, both are cars but both have hugely different use cases and target audiences.

        • +1

Two different things, I have use both Hikvision and Ring.

Hikvision better on commercial use high image quality but you need PVR, HD, remote backup, wiring etc. Perfect to track things.
Ring is perfect for residential, good notification, easy access, set and forget, instant response and act as a doorbell.

I know people worried about subscription fee, Imagin you have a Hikvision cam, how much initial cost be to work like a Ring? more like $1000+

          • @boomramada: Agree. I went Nest Cam as only need a couple that self install with no need for a PVR or electrician. Annual sub is $8pm and with on-camera AI detection it's simple, no hassle security. Instant notification when person detected on my property (and can set to ignore saved faces)

Couldn't agree more with you, I wouldn't have purchased my Ring doorcam, if I had known it required a sub to record. Definitely a deal breaker.

    • +4

Yep. I bought this a few months back at 50% off without realising. Don't be like me. Get a Eufy instead.

    • very good point, deal updated.

    • You also need to buy yourself a new mobile phone when they say so or you can't use the Ring App. Current minimum is Android 9. If you can't upgrade the OS then you need a new phone. Fine if you like that, but bad if you just use an ageing phone to make calls.

For reference, Android 8 and below is around 15% of phones in circulation.

The cameras are fine. The app has some flaws, like when you're driving out of your garage while trying to engage the alarm and when your phone switches from WiFi to mobile data, the App falls over. On iPhone the App sometimes fails to show the buttons to set home/away and needs to be restarted.

      • So are you using the Ring Security (Alarm) system in Australia? And if yes, where did you purchase from and how does it work here without official support from Ring? I've considered importing one previously but I wasn't sure it would be worth it.

        • Yes, used in/from Australia. I installed the App from Google Play Store when Android 8 was still supported. I get warnings but it works just fine. I'm keeping a copy of the Ring APK v3.49.0 (last one to support Android 8) in case my phone needs a reset.

As much as I despise eufy (I own one), this subscription Ring requires makes this not a bargain IMHO. I mean, really? $4.95 a month or $49.95 a year to access recordings…that’s like the doctor charging me for my medical records.

And…it seems they can increase the price any time, and if you already own the Ring, you’re stuck with that :/

      • $4.95 per device. $15 for 4 or more devices.

  • +3

This is the outgoing model. They now have the Ring Spotlight Cam Plus and Ring Spotlight Cam Pro that replace this

  • Does Eufy have a siren cam?

  • +1

I want the solar for this and cant find it anywhere :(

    • Good guys?

    • Bunnings sell the solar panels

    • The 2nd gen solar is backwards compatible with this 1st gen spotlight cam.

      • Are you sure? new one says its USB-C

        • Use the included adaptor for backwards compatibility with barrel-plug input Ring security cameras: Stick Up Cam (2nd and 3rd generations), Spotlight Cam (1st generation); not compatible with Stick Up Cam (1st Generation)

    • The solar panels are really good, keep my two cameras topped up with moderate use. Panels are hard to find in Australia these days, I had to order from NZ off EBay a few months ago to get one after Amazon canceled my order. Good luck.

If only Nest outdoor cams were this price

    Assuming these are waterproof?

    • Yes, i have one sitting in my garden for about a year now.

  • Nice, I can have a packaged delivered from Jeffrey Bezos while Jeffrey Bezos watches.

  • Good cameras i had a few so bought some more.

  • +1

Pity no code for the indoor stick up cams.

  • What's with the jumbo size power cable?
Is it removeable for running into a porch. patio ceiling?

    • It has a standard power plug on the end of it. You can just cut the plug off and hard wire it to any existing light if required but you will need a ceiling mount if mounting vertically
