[Switch] Fire Emblem Engage $62.10 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ JB Hi-Fi

720
AFTERHOURSJAN

Browsing for some decent deals and felt this was worth pointing out.

Currently the cheapest I could see around, good price for a Nintendo game that launched recently. Also even cheaper if you're stacking with the 10% gift cards from Coles.

Side note, they also have the Divine Edition in stock for $125.10 after the coupon.

Awesome game so far, got it Amazon Day 1 and it was $69

  • Spewing! Got the Devine Edition on release day using JB perk for $129. This deal makes it cheaper.

    • +7

$3.90 saving is barely much to lose sleep over. Surely you wouldn't have waited 9 days since release to save that amount if you knew? Regardless of your username.

In case you didn't know, you can't stack 2 vouchers ($10 perks and this 10% off code) to have made it ~$115

Just enjoy the game. Life's too short.

      • +1

True. Also there is also no click and collect except from stores that are >80km away. Actually I was very happy that I got it on release day because I had missed the preorder.

      • I tried stacking perks and the 10% off and the latter overrides.

  • +1

Damn looks like the divine edition can't be delivered to like, any location that im looking for

  • +1

    Noice. Time to buy.

  • -4

Dont seem to be as popular as three houses or echoes

    • +1

Definitely moreso than echoes. Japan already sold out

      • -3

Perhaps at these discounted price, its getting more sales (seeing three houses is priced higher even now) but the reviews and google ratings says otherwise.

        • +1

Where have you been for at least the last ~4 years or so?

It's been normal for new games to get discounted to $69 at launch for years at JB and a few other retailers, and that includes FE: Three Houses

This further discount is a retailer specific discount, not a FE: Engage specific discount.

          • @pj1351: You choose to selectively reply to only half of what I wrote. It stands that public opinion of this FE is the lowest of the past few years. Google customers ratings are at 84% and publication reviews are even lower than the 80's. The weak plot has a large part to do with it.

            • +1

@fuzor: This is the best gameplay Fire Emblem has had since Conquest. Who cares about the story? If you want story, play another game.

            • +1

@fuzor: I "selectively" replied to only the objective assertion you were making, that being Engage only got more sales because of discounted prices, in reply to it selling out in Japan.

Which is objectively wrong on multiple levels, since this discounted price here has nothing to do with how Engage's first week sales in Japan managed to be effectively sold out (AND outperformed Three Houses' first week JP sales).

Google customers ratings are at 84%

Since when did people start taking Google reviews seriously? lol!

publication reviews are even lower than the 80's

Metacritics still has Engage at >80% average score for Critics' reviews, which is a score most games out there can barely dream of, so what arw you even talking about?

Or are you using the presence of any <80% publication review score as the basis for that statement? In which case it's a virtually impossible standard for any game to meet.

    • Three houses still better than engage. I agree

  • solid game. got it for $65 preorder from amazon

have sunk in about 15h so far

  • Does the code work if you use a price match out of interest?

  • +3

one of the best fe game if you can tolerate the poor game plot. 30 hrs in and can't stop playing

    • +3

Funny you mentioned that. Because weebs are more into Three Houses because of the life sim elements than the actual core fans of the series.

    • -1

Never knew you spoke for us lol.

  • I think this is one that you can wait on. Not as popular will get cheaper

    • Probably for the regular copy, but not for the divine edition.

  • +2

Thanks, click and collected the divine edition - funny thing is that the product page says none available within 200km of me but the checkout 'click and collect' option says otherwise.

  • +3

50 hours in. Fantastic. Grab it at this price

  • +2

Yeah gotta admit this one is not grabbing me nearly as much as FE Fates (Conquest specifically), Awakening and Three Houses did.
The core gameplay is still very solid but the ancillary content in the Somniel feels half-baked and misguided.

    • +2

Wait, hol up, you like awakening more than this, and your main complaint is that its non combat content sucks? Lol, that's an interesting view.

      • +1

Honestly can’t remember the “hub” style content in Awakening tbh.
But if you like Mario Party style mini games such as button mash to do a sit-up or moving a cloth around on screen to polish a ring, more power to you.

    • +1

They continue to add to the Somniel as you go on. Stoey gets very interesting as well. Surprised you liked fates and not this honestly

      • These are just my initial impressions mind you, about 6-7 hours in, so things are likely to change.
That being said, I don’t find the characters as appealing and the Engage mechanic feels OP to me at this stage.
I love these games for the characters, story and challenge. (FWIW, I always play classic and on Hard). Fates for me had the best combination of all those traits.

    • +1

You don't even need to do much in the Somniel, I hated the filler parts of 3H and stopped half way through my second playthrough. Somniel if you skip it you don't lose out on much compared to 3H where if I missed months of interactions I'd be missing out on too much xp

  • Price matched Amazon and used my Perks coupon to get it down to $55 on launch. I've been loving that the game is less bloated with non-combat than the other recent entries.

  • Used $10 perks and gift card, $47.2 on launch.

  • +3

Thanks/curse you, I knew I would break and buy this eventually but didn't realise it would be so soon. Time for colgate

    • Haha, I'm sort of in the same boat.

Still a bit in two minds about getting it but seeing everyone recommend it in the comments is making me hover over the checkout button…

  • Great game! I am marrying every one of them! LOL

  • This one or three houses?

    • +1

gameplay and tactics definitely this. if you like story telling and characters interactions then three house.

    • +1

I prefer three houses. I'm only 15 hours into engage and customisation/rpg-elements of characters (e.g. weapon proficiency and how to train/level in three houses is clear. Also class tree easier to understand) is better IMO in three houses. Gameplay during the battles is pretty similar. Graphics is far superior in engage.

The story is definitely better in three houses too, with 4 different endings/routes (although 2 are pretty similar). The characters are more fleshed out and it focuses on a smaller amount of characters whereas in fire emblem engage sometimes they literally chuck in some random as character into your roster.

I'm also not really a fan of the art style in fire emblem engage so there's that too.

it's still a solid game though and worth it at this price.

  • +1
    • It's already in the description

  • Really enjoying this game, about 40-45 hours in, I haven't bee lined and I think I'm about 3/4 through the story, it's hard to tell, you'll see if you play it.

It's not perfect but I'm really enjoying it. It seems the biggest divide in the community around it is, Three Houses had more of an interactive novel component, where as Engage is a far more pure Strategy RPG, which is what I was wanting to play.

I would say if you do get it, explore Sominel really well, for me the text tutorials were hard to digest, but going up to things and seeing how they interact (with smaller text tutorials for each individual thing) was good.

Aside from that, you can basically just play the game smashing things and have a good time, it's as complicated as you want to make it (equipment, forging armour, bonds/support conversations with emblems/characters, mini games, etc).

    • The character designs don't seem to be as good as Three houses or Fates though.

Honestly I don't feel the game is quite "engaging"

They chuck random characters with not much background. Prefer three houses and Fates

      • So you have played it right? It's a more traditional Fire Emblem game from my research, which I think I prefer, but I haven't played Three Houses, what I've read I don't think it will be an experience I like as much. All subjective.
