Why would you need different boards for different food types ? I don't think anyone is using unwashed chopping boards 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • Food smell/taste can transfer despite washing the board properly.

      • Barely anyone I know washes boards properly. They give it a bit of a scrub with detergent and an old sponge. Maybe a spot of boiled water from a kettle if they're feeling generous.

It's good practice to have different boards for different grades of food. Basic system is one for meat, one for vegetables and fruit. Of course if you store them right next to each other, it negates a lot of the benefit. On the whole it's pretty hard to do right, which is why most people aim for the appearance of cleanliness rather than actual cleanliness.

To be on the safe side, I prefer to use a brand new, fresh, clean board each time I prepare food.

@clandestino: i just get sick and die every time i cook

        • They give it a bit of a scrub with detergent and an old sponge.

You don't want to strip the oil out of the wood, because that's going to kill your chopping board fairly quickly. So I'm not sure why you would need to do any more than a quick scrub with your usual detergent and washing brush. This seems like more than enough !

So they can sell more chopping boards!

I can see a benifit in a commercial kitchen but really a waste for the average home.

      • It’s not really a waste for home usage, depends on how much you cook and what sort of prep you do, I would recommend a separate board for raw meat and one for veggies and fruit.

        • Doesn't hurt to have plenty of chopping boards at home but dedicated boards for raw meat (assume you'd then dedicate another to cooked meat), veggies/fruit and cheese is just overkill.

    • Well at least it does mean you can cut up various food types and just leave it on the board in preparation to cooking (rather than having to either transfer to another dish or wash between food types).

Right but this only matters if you're chopping raw meat and then uncooked food like a salad.

If you're cooking everything anyway, then no problem leaving your raw meat on the board next to your veggies which are about to be cooked 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • This website cater for commercial and they need different colour boards as part of food safety requirement. However, you can still utilise different boards at home, I had one for raw meat and fish, one for vegies and fruits, and one small one for cheese, cakes or bread, at home colour is not necessary as long you can tell which from which.

Purple - for use with allergens

    Lol

Mix all the different allergens together!

  • Woudnt these slip around a stone top..not to mention leave plastic residue in the food ? I am yet to see a plastic board that does not move around or give out residue ..

    • Put a damp chux cloth under it to stop it sliding around.

      • Thanks bud :-D Id rather buy heavier chopping boards which do not leave a residue was what I was trying to say ..but thank you .. that actually may help people buying this product

        • Same. Prefer the feel of cutting on wood too.

    • I had two from Nisbets, but the high density model, the plastic quality is certainly much better than the boards you get at stores. If you worry about plastic residue you can get a rubber board from Japan, normally use in sushi restaurant, Hasegawa and Asahi are the most common brands, otherwise just use a hinoki wood board also from Japan.

      • If you worry about plastic residue you can get a rubber board from Japan

Or go crazy and use a wooden board.
