2kg cooking salt seems to be the same price as woolies

    • Which is better Rick James - flake or rock?

      • flake ….buthtnwy don’t seem to do flake salt as an everyday cheapie ….

  • Where do people buy their salt flakes from?

    • +1

When you say salt flakes do you mean

      this ?

      • +1

Can't seem to see a photo of the actual grains so I'm not sure. I'm referring to large, coarse, flat-ish flakes. It can be used for a difference in texture/burst of salt flavour on meats for example.

        • Maldon brand is the most common for flakes

    • Yeah I would like to know as well. Also why do chefs use this as opposed to regular salt?

      • +2

It dissolves better, even though the flakes are large the thickness is less than table salt granules

        • +1

My table salt granules are way smaller but I do use a decent grinder. Salt flakes at restaurants are like oversized plates with tiny portions or seving food on bread boards. Flakes needs to be handled from a communal bowl. It's more marketing and setting the atmosphere than anything.

  • Getting low on my bugasalt ammo, perfect timing!

    • +1

      Does that thing actually work?

      • Yeah they're horribly overpriced, but once you get your eye in (I use the laser sight) they're unbelievably good.

We have one at home and one in a commercial kitchen, and they're not only highly accurate, they're fun as hell too.

Big blowies take a couple shots, but normal ones are DOA after one shot.

People who complain either don't get the laser sight, or use rock salt. Gotta use plain SAXA.

  • 94% of salt products tested worldwide contained microplastics..

    • +12

Everything has microplastics now, even the plants in your garden.

    • Almost everyone eats about a credit card worth of microplasics every week

    • Think about the proliferarion of disposable prefilled grinders sold with plastic burrs. Most are not refillable because the burrs wear down. What better way to add plastic to your sprinkles?

      • So that's where the flavour comes from!

  • Good for sprinkling on snails

    • +1

I like snails sauteed with butter and parsley and sprinkled with salt

  • +2

I will use it to salt some pilchards. For bait 🥸

  • For some reason I am getting the $5.99 expedited delivery as the only delivery option

    • Update: free delivery with subscribe and save

not sure why we on,y get rock salt or table salt cheap ….koshering salt is 1/2 way crystal size wise between the 2 but is only cheap in 20kg bags ….. most salt we eat is sea salt ….. using the sun for evaporation is cheaper than processes that use electricity or gas …..

  • some supermarkets don't stock 2kg SAXA cooking salt.. why is that?

    • Probably because they're either out of stock or just simply don't wanna.

    • +1

2 kg salt is a lot for the average consumer, and it’s cheap already so no need to stock pile if on special ……2 kg bags would be slow movers in supermarket …..

  • I have enough salty people at work.

  • I like to eat eat eat salt and pepper

  • The cooking and iodised have anti caking additive. Interesting they are both substantially cheaper than the rock. Go the rock.

    • Nothing wrong with anti caking agent. Lack of iodine will actually make you sick, though.

  • This looks like greate value ?!?

Reputable brand for their flakey salt and comes out cheaper
