Monini Grape Seed Oil 1L $6.50 (Normally $18, ~64% off) @ Coles

230

Saw this in-store but couldn't find it in the catalogue. Looks like they've increased the price from $13/L to $18/L recently, so this deal is better than half price!

The healthiest cooking oils for high-heat frying are those that contain mostly saturated fats or monounsaturated fats, such as olive oil..
That is something I never heard off before, always thought Olive Oil is not good for frying??

Olive oil is really good for frying, I wouldn't use evvo though as that would be a waste of money and has a lower smoke point

A misconception. Olive oil has a low smoke point, so the assumption is that it is bad for frying. However studies show that it is Volatile Organic Compounds produced in frying that are associated with poor health, and frying with virgin olive oil produces among the lowest level of these.

Smoke point has nothing to do with how good the oil is for frying- for your health.

FWIW grape seed oil is also bad for your health, it is too high in Omega 6 and not enough Omega 3, it is pro-inflammatory.

The best oils are oilve oil (virgin being better than light oil), and avocado oil,

Yep see lots of YouTube chefs (legit ones) use avo oil.

          • @TEER3X: I would use it too, only it costs 4x the price of olive oil…

  • thanks OP, bought a dozen to last 1 year supply or maybe longer.

  • Just don't cook on it as explained in the link above. Good for salads or dressing though

    • You can cook with it but if you reach any oil's smoke point then you need to figure out if those oils release nasties

    • that doesn't make sense as extra virgin olive oil is used in all cooking be it asian, indian, australian, american, italy etc. Grapeseed oil has a higher smoke point so i would assume this would be even more better to use in all cooking and maybe even frying
