  • We don’t have any deals from Melbourne (all airports) to Perth today

    • +1

"We don’t have any deals from Perth today" either :(

    • Does have MEL to Margaret River tho, which might help some on the west coast.

Enjoy the mayhem when they cancel the flight/s

    • +1

Engineering issues, crew hasn’t landed from another flight -.-

      • +11

These are just fake excuses for:

"It will save us money to cancel this flight and push people to fill flights in the coming days, and stuff them if it's an inconvenience"

    • +1

I mean they're improving, but still when 7.2% of your flights are cancelled (more than twice the nearest competitor) https://www.bitre.gov.au/statistics/aviation/otp_month….

      • +1

        I mean they're improving

        No they are not.

We had 3 cancellations on a flight in Dec.
A friend had 2 cancellations on a return flight last week.

        • +3

We've had 4 in our fam over the last month too, not worth the saving.

          • +4

            @CantonasKungFuKick:

            not worth the saving.

or the stress and anxiety of having your flight cancelled whilst already at the airport ready for departure.

        • +1

That's called an anecdote, the plural of which is not data.

In 2022 as a whole, they averaged almost 12% cancellations, while the national average was ~8%. In July, the industry averaged over 30% cancellations.

They're definitely improving, even if slightly better is still fairly awful.

          Actual data sources: https://www.bitre.gov.au/statistics/aviation/otp_annual

It's never happened before, and I've flown hundreds of times…

You own stats show Jetstar is 50% more likely to cancel than other airlines

            • +1

@jv: They said it was improving and you disagreed. Those stats show they are improving. You havent presented anything that shows they are not improving.

                @louiexix:

They said it was improving and you disagreed.

It is still 50% worse than other domestic airlines.

                • +4

@jv: There you go that wasnt hard.

      • Maybe Jetstar will improve more when they realise that no-one is willing to book with them out of fear of spending their holidays in airports and emergency accommodation. Until then I won't touch them. Plenty of other budget airlines with better records that you can reasonably book a flight with and arrive at your destination with little concern.

      • So there is a 92.8% chance that the flight will go ahead. That seems like damn good odds to me and I will take it.

      • +1

Any idea if they are cancelling due to empty flights, or just overall poor service?

        • +1

We had one where it was while waiting to board, the flight was full. They then made everyone queue up to try to find us alternatives. Didn't give an explanation.

Another was a first thing in the morning flight, they cancelled at 11pm the night before.

Others were cancelled the previous day

          • @CantonasKungFuKick: I had a friend who's flight was cancelled /delayed but didn't even notify them which was nice.
Did they put you on the next available or refund and good luck kind of thing?

      • I guess 7.2% can be much worse than expected in some route. That means some route can be cancelled more frequent if the route don’t have a beneficial margin.

I have seen a specific domestic flight has been cancelled 4 times in a week which scheduled in an early morning according to Flight tracker.

Also the bitre.gov.au link was broken. It had been worked before. Maybe Jetstar complained?

Any chance of these prices being available for December to Japan later in the year or being a peak time these current prices are what to expect either way?

    Thanks!

    • +2

First week of December maybe. Mid to late December no way.

    • Try via qantas, i did it last year but a bit later, not in feb

  • Good for international bad for domestic.

  • 🤮🤮🤮 jetstar.

  • It's still not worth the risk, right?

    • Depends where you're flying from I guess. I always do direct GC <-> Narita and have never been cancelled or rescheduled by Jetstar on that route (by more than a few hours) as it's one of their primary ones I guess.

Where it gets risky is with 2~ hour transfer windows or whatnot.

      • Flying from Melbourne. Would be to Osaka, cheaper than to Narita. (don't wanna go to Narita anyway.)

But yeah..still a fair bit for a shit airline that has apparently been extra shit the last couple years.

        • +1

Huh, KIX has always been more expensive for me but never checked from MEL. At least with MEL -> NRT it's the same aircraft taking you there (with at stop at the GC), so less risky than the Osaka transfer as won't matter if it's late.

          • @GS9891: I was surprised too. But yeah, it's cheaper to KIX for some reason.

  • +1

I will fly SYD to DRW for $72 return this month without food or checked in luggage.

It will be the wet season, but I do not mind.

JQ may cancel and transfer me to another flight, but I do not mind as my flights are both red eye specials. Any alternative flight would be an improvement.

  • +2

Sweet, booked $580~ return from the GC to Narita for the summer festivals. Time to start planning the 10th trip.

Not as great as the old $350~ return deals but probably the best we'll get for a while (paid $1000~ for a trip last Nov - Dec, probably a bit too much but just wanted to get back after almost three years of waiting).

    • +1

Yeah it's hard to stomach these prices after those return free deals. Especially when prices now for just me flying are like, equivalent to how much I was paying for myself AND my ex to fly previously..

But I am really missing Japan. It's been far too long.
