2 grand for a phone. You must be kidding me.

    • +24

You must have just came out of a rock?

      • +4

You must not understand value. ie. worth vs cost.

      • +32

Just because they've been doing it a while doesn't make it less stupid. Therefore the comment is still valid

        • +4

I never said the comment was invalid. It was merely a joke. I do agree with everyone here - yes it's expensive lol

        • +7

Apple has been pricing their products to be a status symbol.

Samsung lured us into higher prices by strategical bump ups every year.

Unfortunately Samsung is increasingly very much an Apple wannabe these days.

          • +6

@ThePasserby: I don't even get the status symbol aspect anymore, a $100 phone looks the same as a $2000 one now. This phone is more expensive than my gaming PC and all anyone will ever use it for is basic stuff like youtube, social media, web, text/calls, low end games, a potato can do that. And then it will be trash next year when the S24 is out and no one would even notice that your phone is different.

            • +5

@Kommodore: Im still using my Note 8. Time for an upgrade.

              • +3

@Rakibul: Note 9 is still amazing.

                • @pformag: Im using Note 8. Still awesome except that I have a broken screen and barcodes not working.

                  • @Rakibul: It's probably the only reason I will be updating this year from my Note. Cracked screen, other than that, it's still fast and takes great photos. Looking to the Pixel line this time. 2k is just not worth it.

            • -5

              @Kommodore: TL;DR: You just cannot afford it…

        • +2

2k for a phone was stupid in 2019.

But eggs cost like $10 now.
U98 Fuel is $2.00/L if not more.

2k is less stupid for a phone in 2023 after all this inflation.

          • +6

@DnA-bargain: What horrible logic, everything is more expensive so I am okay with everyone gouging me now? Do you have unlimited discretionary income? Most people cut back in other areas to make up for it, not spend more across the board. Exploit me daddy.

            • @Kommodore: I was describing basic relativity.

A 2k flagship phone is less of a bad deal today than it was 3 years ago.
I'm not saying you should spend money on things you can't afford.

          • +1

            @DnA-bargain:

But eggs cost like $10 now.

We're not in America. I checked last week and a dozen cage free is still only around $6 from Woolies.

            • @bchliu: Ok - I don't really eat eggs.

The point was the inflation in everything else has made a 2k flagship phone less of a crappy deal than 2-3 years ago.

              It's still not amazing.

              • +5

@DnA-bargain: But that's the point: Inflation isn't as bad as what the general media and public has made it out to be (at least here). 2-3 years ago, petrol was up and down and during the up times, was more than $2/litre.

Generating a PERCEPTION of inflation allows the companies to legitimately raise their prices up as a result.

Honestly though - with Samsung, they will struggle to move units at this price. They AREN'T APPLE (no matter how much they "think" they wannabe). Their prices should be kept competitively. I can see that this phone is going to have a LOT of constant sales to bring the real price down through the year if they want to sell any big numbers. Considering it's only a minor upgrade over last year's S22 series. (btw.. I'm a Samsung user, no love for Apple. It's genuine Samsung customer feedback to them).

          • @DnA-bargain: its still same stupid cuz in 2019 im on 50k, now im on 50k, its not less stupid, just other things are more stupid

            • @zorodluffy: That's what I said too.

              • @DnA-bargain: no, you described relativity, cause other thigns are stupid, thereforce 2k must be less stupid.

no, if other things are stupid now, 2k is still stupid.

        • The comment is absolutely valid, phone prices are incredibly high for a few years. What's kinda weird is the surprise at how expensive they are - haven't iphone's been around that price for some time? Same as high end Samsung phones?

      • "From under a rock" Is the terminology.

    • +5

This phone or one 55CS OLED and plenty of change ?

      • Can your 55CS OLED have a built in 200x zoom camera with anti stabilisation, HDR-enhancement, 8K videos?

        • 8k filming is pretty dumb and unnecessary..

          • @solidussnake: So no then :^). I'm 100% not buying this phone as it's way overpriced and above my means, but just because you think something is "dumb and unnecessary" doesn't mean that applies to other people.
Comparing a phone with a TV is ridiculous anyway.

          • @solidussnake: So are a lot of features brought out on phones in this day and age !

    • Corporate pricing way cheaper.

      • I havent checked since yesterday morning, but, as of yesterday morning, the best deal for most people was the Samsung public website - I ran the numbers on the Ultra512gb.

At face value the education/corporate store is $150 cheaper….

But public samsung website has an extra $100 trade-in… and you get 10x Samsung Rewards (so, something like $170 value) … and you might get $90cashback (6%, uncapped). The samsung rewards and potebtial cashback makes it better than the public site, if you say you'll send a phone in.

The samsung public website is also, very likely, the cheapest place if you ascribe any legitimate value to SamsungCare… and still might be the cheapest if you ascribe no value - the harveynorman/optus tie-up is close, if you dont get charged for the first month.

    • Can you believe some pay $200,000 for a car and $5,000 for a lv bag.

      • Supercars go up in value these days, so do handbags and watches.

Phones, laptops, TVs etc do not.

        • Wrong. Due to our current high rate economy, these items are dropping in price.

          • -3

@Wizard: Nope my sports car is appreciating every year.

            • +1

@Jasonio: I doubt that. Unless you own a McLaren.

    • Wait 2 weeks Samsung will drop it by $400

      • Then we do price protection.

        • Do any cards have price protection these days?

      • Wait two years and it'll drop by $800.00 , you're point ?

    • -3

      200 extra for unwanted Bloatware!!!

    • This quote will frame best beside my 'a loaf of bread for $5!'

  • Wait how did people comment during this period

    Don't Panic!
OzBargain is currently under scheduled maintenance / database upgrade. We shall be back "very very soon".

    • +4

Well they did not panic by the looks of it.

  • Is these a duplicate deal that was posted yesterday?
Edit : my bad, you also added the $50 off using code SHARETHEEPIC

  • +11

Don't worry it will probably be half it's price by years end.

  • +4

My 512gb note 10+ still run perfectly, will wait for Fold 5 if it big change and good.

    • In the same boat. Note 10+ still going strong. A number of generations later and no reason to upgrade.

      • did you upgrade to latest OneUI? I'm still stick to OneUI 2.5 afraid the new one make it slow

        • Mine is 4.1 without any drama. 4.1 makes it even better for me.

    • great minds think alike.

    • +3

My Note 20 battery life was short. I bought an S22 ultra.
Went on holiday in Bali and Qatar World Cup….

The footage from the S22 ultra was so good, I got like 500 new followers on IG just from filming Messi from the stands. "What camera did you take? Is that a Sony A4R?"
      "Did you use a gimbal?!"

The zoom footage is good quality, AND it's stabilised.

If I pre-order the S23 ultra, it will because it will delay me buying new actual camera gear which costs more.

    • My note 8 lags while using maps and music at the same time

    • I broke my S10 in January, so this is not badly timed for me!

  • +4

My P30 pro still going strong and still worth something in the exchange dept.

    • +4

Mate 20 Pro still going strong too

      • +8

        Nokia 3310 still going strong….

      • Had one, got rid of it, want it back. Great phone.

      • +1

Mate 10 pro going on six years. Still get 15hrs battery. Dreading paying for a new flagship these days

    • +2

Same with my 3 year old P30. Huawei really made awesome phones.

    • +1

      Mi 9T Pro here.

    • My touch screen on it has died.. :(
Don't think I'll get it fixed though.. sigh

  • +4

How do you get 256gb for the price of 128gb when there is no 128gb for s23 ultra?

    • There is. On the epp site for Westpac customers they are selling the 256gb for the same price as the 512gb. There is no 128gb model. I am sure they will discount the entry level 256 gb model one the initial purchases have been made. This ensures that everyone does not but the entry level model initially.

  • +1

S22 1TB is still going strong. I dont think its worth the very slight upgrade for the S23.

    • How's the battery?

      • +1

Quite bad for me, 3-4.5 hrs sot using 4g and 5.5-6.5 using wifi

        • Same thinking of upgrading for better battery.

    • Generally all very slight, with the exception of the camera I think?

      • +1

Camera back and front, chipset that help performance and battery, storage speed.

        • +1 for UFS4.0
Too many people underestimate that upgrade.

    • I would hope so for a 1yo phone lol

    • As a person that is still using the Note 8 and dont intend to upgrade until maybe next year, nothing wrong with the current phone, although I am almost full on the storage (64Gb) and just had the battery replaced. Can you please provide some insight as to why you would even consider a new phone after just one year?

  • +1

This phone or an S22 Ultra + PS5?

    Hmm…

    • +1

      S22 Ultra + PS5 sounds like a great deal.

      • +1

Yea i'm going to have to agree, that seems like far more value.

I have a S20 though, so for me the upgrade is bigger. Also I have a ps5 :P

  • +3

2 grands! I paid less for my first car

    • Haha I sold my first car for $1000

    • +1

I paid $200 for my first phone. People come a long way

  • +2

My S8 is still able to make calls.

  • I'm still on my Pixel 2 XL, I have a Pixel 7 Pro I got for under $600

I have to transfer over, I'm just use to buying stuff and not using it.

I'm trying to retrain my brain, I need a OzB detox but then I bet I miss something 😂

    • I'd take a p7p for under 600 lol. How'd you do that?

  • +2

    2k…yeh ok thanks Sampple…

  • -5

and people keep paying so prices keep rising and so does inflation. Idiot tax.

  • Note 9 is still amazing. But dual sim seems to have progressively failed. Maybe its planned obscelescenc, maybe a virus. Maybe just a poor implementation that doesn't work well in low reception areas. Phones aren't worth 2G but some people will keep paying it.

  • yeah, nice try Samsung

  • +1

$2k for a phone that does 99% the same things as a $4-500 phone.
One must really hate money to buy this…

  • Whats the best price for S22

  • I'm still using my samsung galaxy S4. Bought new when it came out. I think i'll still hang on to this one because these prices are stupid as!
As a comment above states; all people will use it for is internet, social media, light gaming, very basic stuff. I use my phone to text, internet banking, making a phone call. S4 will still do me fine.

  • Give it another few years and Samsung will have the entire back of the phone covered in lenses.

  • Poco f3 or f4 has a nice Snapdragon and AMOLED too, and same size same battery. 25% of the price.

  • Somehow this time the education store does not have discount. Or do I have to wait for a while?

  • Why don't they just knock $250 off the price and sell the bloody thing for under $2k?? Makes the price more appealing seeing it under $2k…. $1950. 1 is much better than 2…. depending on what you're talking about lmao

  • Which deal is better, this or TGG ?

  • is it possible to attach the $300 trade in bonus with it?

  • -1

Does the s23 ultra release on the 17th Feb? I ordered it and I just received it today, not that I'm complaining.

  • +1

RBA: Stop discretionary spending otherwise we'll keep raising interest rates!

    Samsung: Here's a $2197 phone.
