FESTOOL TS 55F Fan Edition 160mm Track Saw in Systainer $999 Delivered ($1,149.01 with Rail) @ Festool

80

Brushed motor, cordless price for a corded tool, and expensive parts. However none of my Festool ever let me down.

Rarely do we see a Festool track saw on special. The Fan Edition also comes with a Pica pencil and a Stabila tape measure.

TS55F with 1400mm rail is also on special: https://www.festool.com.au/ts-55f-fan-edition-160mm-plunge-c…

Clearing stock before the TS60 lands in AU:

    • Good news. It finally must be close if they are clearing stock.

    • Anyone have any thoughts on whether to wait for the new model? Is it much of an upgrade?

The new model has better safer features which is what I’m waiting for.

I was close to buying the Makita a few months ago as it compares quite well for the price.

        • I'm all for safety, I think I'll wait to check it out 👍

Mine broke fairly quickly and out of warranty, it's put me off the brand. A quick search indicates I should have done my research as most tear-downs suggest cheap internals.

Interesting given it's sold as a top of the line brand

    • I've been watching a few videos on Domino alternatives that put them up against the Domino. While the Domino still wins every time, the close up views of the thing have left me a little unimpressed with some of the plastic-ness. I'm not too surprised to hear the internals are rather cheap!

(Also, how tight must the Domino patent be that none of the Chinese companies are ripping it off?!)

It's bananas - it's a fancy router that comes in a nice box. Sawstop is the other one - apparently they tried to license their tech and no one wanted to pay the $$, which is a shame because it is brilliant.

SawStop is great, but they probably shot themselves in the foot with that over the top licensing fee, as the potential sales across millions of units would vastly outweigh the 2-3% of the market they have now. (They also condemned thousands of table saw users to missing fingers because they couldn't afford the extra 30%+ for a sawstop model).

Bosch tried to launch a safety saw that worked in a different way that didn't destroy the blade. But Sawstop sued and the judge found in their favour. Sawstop don't just own their patented tech. They apparently own the whole concept of safely stopping a tablesaw that meets flesh!

Why you (almost) never see them on sale.

    https://www.accc.gov.au/update/rpm-on-festool-and-fein-power…

    • Wow, so ACCC is protecting the price gougers and not consumers… fair enough, it's an ozzy tradition.
Miele is the other one that springs to mind.

    • when they asked for submissions on this whether the ruling should be extended, the submissions that supported this stance were all from the retailers, the few submissions that objected to it were consumers (given most consumers aren't engaged in policy development that affects them)
the ACCC is supposed to be there for us as a consumer.
it is such a stuffed up system protecting the wrong interest groups
