No dram cache so write speeds won’t be
Write up to 500MB/s, - Closer to 400mbps on a good day but - 2Tb would be nice instead of a 2Tb hdd 720TBW (2TB) that’s impressive in the long run
    I’m sure there’s a Tom’s hardware review of the 2Tb I can post a link to

Yeah this is pretty slow, I have one and not useful for gaming. Using it as a general storage drive for now. The MX version is much better.

Why is it not good for games? Aside from the initial installation aren't games mostly just reading from the drive?

        • +5

mrtee sounds like they're just being elitist. is fine for games, at worst you'll have a second or two difference with SOME (not all) games loaded off this or an NVME. NVME will be MUCH better though when direct storage finally gets more use by game devs.

got one if I could get faster speeds for $10-20 more it would have been worth it.

  • Still much faster than a 5400rpm hard drive right?

    • +9

Yes, much faster.. but you are honestly better off going for MX series. I really do not recommend WD Green or Crucial BX SSDs.

      • Why is that?

      • Good enough ( I know not ideal) to play new games off?

    • +9

Large writes will actually slow down to worse than a HDD.
But reading of it will be much faster and more responsive.
So it's ideal for infrequent writes and frequent reads, for example games.

Thought this was for the MX500 for a sec. God damn it lol

    • If it was the 2TB MX500 you'd end up with QLC 🤢

      • +1

I was meaning the 1TB version because it's been almost this price. Ah well another day I guess.

      • Is that true? I thought the entire MX500 was TLC

        • +2

It's been brought up in pretty much every deal with a lot of links. Anything 2TB and above is a mix of QLC and TLC. Not to mention all the other component swapping they've done.

    • Same haha

    • +1

Agreed. The MX500 1TB should be around this price now due to the NAND price drops and the slightly stronger AUD.

I don't think the 1TB is a bargain at this price.

  • what's recommended ssd's for 2 bay nas?

  • +2

Spend the extra 20 bucks and get the MX500, folks

    • Definitely

    • Hey mate got a link for a 2tb mx500 for a good price, would like to use it as a gaming drive are they decent ?

      • +1

Omg. It has learned how to change usernames!

  • Got excited until I saw the BX.
