UPERFECT y 15.6" FHD IPS Portable Touchscreen Monitor US$137.54 (~A$198.81) Delivered @ Factory Direct Collected AliExpress

FEB9

On sale is another portable monitor and this one is quite different to the others I've previously shared. This one has an inbuilt rotatable and adjustable kickstand that allows you to put the monitor into landscape or portrait mode. All the ports are built into the kickstand so they're hidden out of the way, plus it has a full sized HDMI port and a USB-A OTG port for connecting a mouse/keyboard.

Another big feature is that this portable monitor has a touchscreen and there's a small light on the back of the kickstand that can cycle between various colours to provide ambient backlighting if you wish.

Other features include a 15.6" IPS display with 1920x1080 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, 300/m² brightness, 100% sRGB colour gamut, 2000:1 contrast ratio, 178° wide viewing angle and dual 2W speakers. In addition to the HDMI port there's two USB-C ports for display/power, PD passthrough charging and a 3.5mm audio jack.

A HDMI to HDMI cable, USB-C to USB-C cable, USB-A to USB-C cable and power adapter are included.

  • Love the features this one has to offer, don't really love the price. I hope others pickup the idea of inbuilt stand

Yeah I know what you mean. The exchange rate isn't the best right now. Certainly one of the best US$ prices for a touchscreen I've seen.

  • Thanks, good post.
I'm looking for an 8~11" portable touchscreen for my car navigation and media play.
I'm planning to use Samsung Dex mode for it.
Is there any good product with similar specs to this post?

    • +2

There's certainly plenty of 10" portable monitors around like this but they tend to cost the same as the 13/14" ones which are US$90-$100. Typically anything smaller ends up being a Raspbery Pi monitor and less connectors.

      I can certainly look around.

Why not get a cheap used Samsung tablet? Get one with GPS, an OTG port to charge, and/or… connect a MHL adapter that allows you to both charge/power the tablet AND move data at the same time. e.g. To plug in a portable HDD (might need to be reformatted from NTFS to FAT32 first to work), and/or memory card slot for music files.

Doing it this way means you can also install apps for when you or your phone are not the in the car. e.g. Install something like Sygic for offline GPS maps, play music from the memory card or portable HDD, but still be able to pair it to your Samsung phone via Dex to access everything that has on it.

There's a few different ways to connect the tablet to the internet too: via a USB modem over an OTG cable (if it works - it may not), over bluetooth and/or wifi to your phone, or over wifi to a pocket wifi modem (that has a phone/data SIM inserted). The display would probably be brighter than this for daylight driving too.

e.g. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 which I haven't set up for this yet, but I know from researching online forums it can recognize a 1TB portable HDD, has a microSD slot, a Micro-SIM slot (so it can use the internet AND make phone calls), Glonass GPS, wifi, bluetooth, accelerometer/gyro/compass (for car speedometer apps)…

I'd watch for second hand ones and use https://www.gsmarena.com to check if that model has the features you want.

Because of battery and booting time.
I'm just going to set it up in the car and leave it.

Just worried about the battery swelling or explosion.

        • I've had a Samsung tablet in my Liberty for 2 years now. There is no boot time because it's always on. I use Automate app to put it in flight mode when the car is off. As soon as it gets power the screen comes on and 4G is active. You can program it to do whatever you want.

These things last for weeks in standby on aeroplane mode.

No battery swelling issues but I always use a sunshade.

    • Or just use a Carpurride or similar? Built for those tasks.

I sort of want this, but I don't know why.

I use a portable monitor with my laptop all the time. Since I travel a lot it's very useful. Good for the Switch too.

      • +1

See, I can't think of any use for me at all. Except for a third monitor.

      • Yes i agree, very handy while on the move, got one from your previous post which I used as a second monitor while working from overseas.

In my opinion, touch is not crucial while using as a second monitor but is really handy if you also plan to use it with your current work or home setup.

Buy first, think later -> The OzB way!

      • +1

        This is the way.

      • People always promise that they’re going to think later, but most forget

I've got one. I really wish it had the gravity sensor thing so the aspect automatically changes from landscape to portrait. If you are using an Android phone with this, it can only be used in landscape mode

    • Thank you! This was unexpected - was thinking to use in the car in portrait mode with android….

    • Aside from that negative aspect, how do you rate it otherwise?

      • +1

Image quality and brightness are pretty good. I have a SFFPC but don't really travel much with it. I have put this monitor in portrait mode with windows and used it for reading PDFs while still having my main screen. There are 2 USB ports on the back so that is helpful. You can plug your phone in and have a keyboard and mouse. I also like the stand design. With most of these monitors, you need a separate stand or case with built in stand.

I wish Samsung DEX had an option for portrait mode. There are lots of cool Mame roms that look too small in the landscape format. I've found similar issues with hooking up my Ipad as well. I initially thought I could velcro my phone to the back of this and use it like a giant tablet with the screen replicated from the phone. But without the gravity sensor, it won't work that way. A family member ended up gifting me a tablet so this screen doesn't get used much. I could see using it with a phone and DEX + kb and mouse as a laptop alternative while traveling (especially if it is a higher risk country where you wouldn't want to bring and expensive tablet/laptop).

    • If you are using an Android phone with this, it can only be used in landscape mode

Any way to fiddle with that in developer options?

      • +1

I looked into it a year ago and couldn't find anything. Not even additional apps to make it happen. Apparently lots of people complained about DEX not having the option but they don't seem to care. I suspect it is because they think their tablet sales would decrease. When you think about it, if you had a touchscreen like this, you could velcro your phone to the back and replicate the screen for use as a giant tablet. It would be much cheaper than buying a tablet so I suspect that might be why they've limited android so much.

Another important point is that there is no setting on the monitor itself to switch it to portrait mode. If it had that, then these issues with DEX could be circumvented.

    • Are you sure it doesn't work? It seems a bit odd it wouldn't display anything because the phone port should still be outputting video regardless of which way it's rotated. Turning it after connecting can muck things up though.

e.g. Try disconnecting the OTG cable, turn the screen completely off, rotate both phone and screen to portrait, turn screen on, then plug in the OTG cable (phone first, then screen).

Or all the same steps but turn the screen on after connecting the OTG cable.

      • +2

It isn't like it doesn't display anything. When you rotate the phone into portrait mode, it displays portrait mode in the middle of the screen on landscape mode with the rest of the screen being black. If you have ever hooked your phone up to your TV in portrait mode, you will see what I mean.

Yeah I've seen that on some Youtube videos on portable monitors. They usually solve it with some combination of the steps I listed above, and/or a setting in the phone or monitor itself. If you do find a setting in the phone (under "Display" on mine but it's an old Android version) don't turn the phone again before trying the monitor. I'm pretty sure I've seen apps or maybe it was another phone setting to "force portrait mode" that might work, but yeah, some portable monitors won't work no matter what.

    • Philips portable monitor has this. I know it works on PCs. Not sure what else

      • +1

This monitor will also work with PC in portrait mode. You just need to set it in the display properties. Android doesn't have that option.

        • I was actually thinking of using this for portrait mode only, no way to just force it in that mode is there? Specifically with an Android set top box. Also anyone know if touch would with rk in that setup? The only way to connect it is via hdmi so I will xpect something else would need to be connected

  • When it says AU plug.. does that mean we actually get a australian Cord + plug?
Or is it just going to be one of those adapters at the power point that plugs into a foreign plug?

    • I'm fairly confident is an actual AU plug.

    • Mine had the AU plug but the power supply died within 2 months.

If I use this with my desktop,I power it with a USB C cable. If I use it with my phone, I use a USB C to HDMI adapter and power the screen with a portable battery.

Seems really expensive. I bought a 2K monitor 16" of similar specs for $180 only 2 weeks ago.

    • +2

      Link for that please!

  • are theyre any other cheaper options? looking to get extra for some basic kids monitoring

  • I’ve been thinking about getting one or two of these so I can work from a campground somewhere. Does the fact it’s touch use more power? Any recommendations on bright ones for use outside?

    • There's ones with 500/m² brightness that'll handle the sun a bit better. I'm actively looking for those on sale.

  • Hmmm, this or a less than perfect second hand Surface Pro 5/6 around the same price.

  • I've been thinking about trying one of these, saw some ads for espresso display I think and the price is much higher than this. (not sure how they are in terms of quality?)

Is this a good one or am I better off with something a bit more expensive with better display?

    No Clear, UPERFECT

  • What is the battery life like?

    • There is no battery.

  • @Clear, if I connect to a type-c Android phone, will the touchscreen works as if it's touching on the phone?
would you please share the general experience, touchscreen/color/responsiveness/brightness, etc ?

    • +1

C to C cable works with touchscreen but it will drain power unless also using a 2nd USB power supply.

  • Hmmm is that accurate? The listing states "Contrast ratio: 800: 1" and I don't see mention of the sRGB coverage.

300/m² brightness, 100% sRGB colour gamut, 2000:1 contrast ratio,

I'm temped to take the plunge on this one instead. anyone have any experience with it?

  • Hmmmm. This does not seem to come with a case/cover. How do people transport this so as not to damage screen

  • 15.6 is too small for productivity.
I would recommend either a 16 or 17.3 - then you can have 2 windows on it without it being too crowded.

  • Mine arrived today. Working well so far.
