    Come on amazon 👐

    • +1

Surely Amazon will match the price?

      • Surely!

  • I better hurry up and sell my Gamecube copies.

    • +13

I mean, I'd say a large amount of buyers of retro games don't buy them to actually play them. Nowadays it's just to look pretty on a shelf.

    • +1

      Why? lol

      • +1

The price on retro games can drop once an undated version comes out.

        • +9

          Nope.
GameCube games are collectors items, and prices trend upward.

          • @Morien: Yeah maybe I'm comparing apples to oranges.

I was thinking of Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii when I said that. I remember it trading for about $100 but now it can be had for less than half of that.

Wii is a completely different system though, much more recent so nostalgia hasn't started hitting yet and games had many units sold (less so for this late release title but still).

A better comparison would be Mario Sunshine. Looking at it's price over the pandemic buying frenzy it seemed to be suppressed when comparing it to Metroid Prime. Now factor in inflation.

…but Fire Emblem has shown that lesser known franchises become more collectible over time and while Metroid isn't as obscure as Fire Emblem it's no Mario either. It addition it sold half as many copies as Mario.

            • @TightLikeThisx: Wii is fun to play though for casual gamers tries to pick up for an hour quick session. I still remember playing Transformers on Wii with the Bumblebee cannon gun to point Wii mote to screen and shoot was much more fun than the ps3 DualShock controller lacked this feature. Nintendo Life review said about this Metroid Prime Remastered motion sensor control gameplay option on Switch was not as good and precise as the Wii mote.

            • @TightLikeThisx: Ignore pandemic pricing. People went insane.

Just because people are trying to sell for a price, doesn't mean people are buying for it. And just because people were buying for an inflated price when they had the time on their hands, doesn't mean that the collectors who remain are going to continue to do so.

        • I doubt it'll drop any more.

Since it already did when the Trilogy became more widely available with it going for 26 on the Wii U digitally.

          • @HolyFosh: You are right in that regard. Trilogy has been climbing in price.

But at the same time that was a digital only release on the WiiU and the WiiU wasn't that popular even amongst Nintendo fans.

            • @TightLikeThisx: I mean in that originally Trilogys high price was mostly due to the quality of the game and people wanting to play it, rather than the collectability. Plus it being optimal over the GC versions in some ways.

Around that time the three Prime games were pretty cheap.

But now the GC copies of 1/2 are priced mostly due to collectability rather than people buying to play them (although I'm sure some people do, or a lot of people buy to collect and play)

          • @HolyFosh: Still available on wii u?

  • +2

Great game and remaster, Retro and Iron Galaxy did a good job.

Good price for a 21 year old game

    • Haha not sure why you got downvoted, it's a good observation

I understand the effort in remastering but feel there is something to be said for directing these efforts to new games?

    • They added a more modern control scheme which is honestly nice. I still feel like they could have released the whole trilogy remastered for this price. And emulation has fixed metroid prime's control scheme for ages now.

Been drinking for a few hours and then got online. Between this and the new Zelda game coming out this year, I caved and just bought a Switch. Gonna be an expensive hangover XD !!!

As a fulltime game dev, I wonder if I can claim the Switch as a tax write-off?

    • +3

Good call, the switch is the goods

    • +12

As a part time ozbargain tax accountant, I say yes.

    • +8

As a part time ozbargain family lawyer, I recommend to keep this purchase confidential

I guess we're all patient enough anyway, but with no pickup, $3.90 postage in a metro area, the estimated delivery I'm getting is 07 Mar - 13 Mar.

Might just wait til the end of Feb to see who has the best price.

    • +1

I still have some 15% gift cards for JB, it'll come down to $50.15 that way so I might just pre-order there personally in store.

  • +1

o sh$% so there is an actual release day now? Metroid Prime Remastered

    • +6

If you want digital it's out already

  • o I thought it was metroid prime 4 nope still not around.

  • Looks like it's no longer available

  • Hope that they someday remaster the snes DK trilogy. although they already look great, but would be cool

    • +1

My hope is an original 2D Zelda in the style of the testing they did for breath of the wild

  • I bought this on a whim when it had dropped in price on the GameCube

I knew I didn't like metroid before playing it and while I didn't dislike metroid prime I didn't enjoy as much as I expected

The graphics, control scheme and the way they made a faithful 3d metroid game were exceptionally impressive. Just a shame the whole style of metroid involves backtracking and respawning enemies!

  • It doesn't seem like Amazon is going to match it.

  • Best price around by the looks.
Unless I'm mistaken, this doesn't look to be a "sale" price at Big W (and as far as I know they don't do lower pre-order prices) but rather their standard selling price, which is $10 cheaper than most other places.

Would it be safe to assume that when this is back in stock / available to order (pre-orders have seemingly closed) it will still be $49?

    Weird Amazon haven't price matched.

  • +1

    Back in stock

  • Yep, back in stock. JB live chat price matched (but included the delivery charge) for a total of $52.90 so I can pick it up on launch day.

  • Just checked Bigw website still available at $49 and is now showing free pickup available no need for $3.90 postage. Waiting for confirmation website is showing in stock at local store so hopefully will be able to pickup today or tomorrow for the $49 and then have the weekend to play it.

    • I grabbed a copy from Big W half an hour ago. Even though game box is Australian version, game cartridge itself is European version (it is written in German as well). I especially asked them to check the other game cartridges. As it turned out they are all European.

Nevertheless, Nintendo Switch is not region locked so it should work just fine.
