  • Does this work as a thermostat?

Broadlink Mini $34 on Amazon is also an option for the purspose.

Does the broad link mini have temp sensor and humidity sensor built in and all easy to manage temperature / humidity response built in? Nope

      • +5

        They actually do lol

        • +1

Although the temp doesn't transfer over to Google home, yet the humidity does

        • not built in no, but in cable(just realised its included on amazon now, wasnt when i bought it ages ago). I had issues getting the temp over to google and had a few other random issues so now i just use it in another room as an IR blaster and humidity sensor (garage for reasons lol)

Stand by my point though when i had it running i could not get it to act as climate control.. aka if the temperature or humidity is this then turn ac on to this temp at this fan until temp reaches this or humidity is this without trying to run it via external stuff (aka ifttt) which i dont care to manage anymore.

i got the sensibo (this one but with a motion sensor also for total of $89) and it just damn works (i have it for AC for the dogs during the day if im not home)

        Broadlink RM4 Mini Universal IR
Supports external Temperature and Humidity Sensor USB Cable (purchase separately), connect it to the RM4 mini, BroadLink App will show room’s temperature and humidity. Zero Configuration

      Link for the lazy.

      Broadlink RM4 Mini S Universal IR… https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0872PPSGM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_s…

Even works with Siri Shortcuts. And can add them to homebridge too tho that’s a bit more complicated depending on your AC.

  • Wow that didn’t last long at all. Fingers crossed there’s another run. $100 to turn my aircon on before I get home is a good QOL update.

    • Remember premium features like geolocation require a premium. Though simple schedules dont.

      • Thanks, honestly I just manually operate most of my smart stuff using Siri, just the ability to log onto my homekit and turn it on before I leave is amazing(and auto turn off when I leave home too)

        • FYI, the Sensibo Sky doesn't support Apple Homekit. Gotta spring for the Air for that, or run a local Homebridge server.

    • Look at the Broadlink mini, it's cheaper and works for a lot more than aircons.

      • Sadly incompatible with home kit

          • @LowRange: Holy shit I love the internet, thank you.

Have you had any experience with it yourself? I just worry a smidgen about compatibility issues and the rest, I want it to just work, if I have to tweak and play with things itll probably just remain unused. I guess at $30 its not a bad gamble.

            • @doobey1231: Homebridge is the way to go.
So much things you can now connect to HomeKit app with that

              • @froddoog: Im gonna try and get ahold of a raspberry pi next week, sounds like it. I have a whole bunch of lenovo smart bulbs I bought ages ago that I can now make use of :D

Returning one of these. It worked initially for 2 weeks or so then stopped controlling the air con properly and Sensibo support tried like 6 or 7 different setting changes over a few weeks (having to email them is much slower than chat support) and it still doesn't work. They kept wanting to try more changes but I felt it was getting a bit ridiculous and have started a return. Maybe I just got a dodgy one though because other people seem to find them good.

    • Nah these are absolute garbage - mine came DOA. Thankfully picked up a broadlink one which worked for more products and is actually sterdy. These feel like plast throw away junk.

      • I'm getting the Mirabella Genio one to try next, someone else recommended them on here and it's only $30. It doesn't have the temperature sensor or the extra features the Sensibo has but should be fine for just switching it on and off.

  • Is there anything similar for ducted air conditioners?

    • Does your ducted unit have a remote control? All this does is replace the infrared signal being sent from your remote (like the tv uses to change volume levels) to make it accessible to trigger using things like a phone, automation systems etc. the device needs to have power and line of sight to the receiver on the wall and wifi and you will be in business

  • Anyone have any idea how to get the broadlinks to work with a mesh system. It keeps asking for a 2.4 GHz?

    • Just disable 5ghz from your router while you doing the setup and reenable it once you are done.

  • Novice question, but I just installed a latest Mitsubishi air con, I didn’t get the wifi smart extra thing installed into the indoor unit, but will this just work with it and don’t need anything in the units beforehand for it to work?

  • Is this just an app or is it an actual air conditioning unit? Title kinda throws me.
