  • Thank OP bought one

  • Bought. Thx

  • still free delivery without prime after $20 discount ?

  • My current battery is still Ok. What is the shelf life for these?

    • Should be many years. But it, charge it, then swap back to your original battery and you'll be good

      • Never charge a battery to full and leave it, it will kill the battery. Charge it to 60-80% then you can store it.

        • +2

lol no, charging a battery to full and leaving it will not kill the battery, it is the same as charging the battery to full and using it. Charging a battery to full causes more wear than not charging to full.

Letting certain chemistries completely drain (leaving it uncharged for a long time that causes it go below the normal "empty" charge level) will kill the battery or severely degrade it, but a 100% charge is just a 100% charge (assuming charge time, temperature, etc are all constant).

Most batteries have the least degradation between 40-60% charge and 20-80% is only marginally worse so the advice is to charge 60-80% because it is best for battery health, not because 100% will kill it.

          • @nmartin84: lol no… any voltage above or below the chemistry stable voltage (3.72 for LiPo/Ion) causes oxidation of either the cathode or anode for above or below nominal voltage, and thus reducing its capacity.

And the reason why it is recommended to store lithium-ion/poly batteries slightly above their nominal voltage, is bcos the chemistry will overtime react and release energy, all the way to 0.

When you use % in your comment what is it related to; % of BMS or 1V which is the usable voltage? In any event batteries have 3.7V +/- 500mV anything above or below causes faster degradation, much above causing thermal runaway, and some BMS' play it safer and charge to 4.1V or 4.15V and some will cut power @ 2.9V, and thus % is arbitrary. And some chemistries have polymers to reduce the electron exchange which slows degradation but also slows discharge/recharge and makes them useless in very cold, but good for the lower draw hot environments.

            Variables = BMS/Chemistry

  • is V6 and V7 same battery size or different?

  • man, have been using my dyson for years without needing battery replacement yet.

    • +1

Pfft. Barely used my v10 (don't judge me) and if you have any serious job that needs it on max suction it's dead in 60 seconds

  • +1

Sold out? Wow that was fast

  • +2

Are the cells in this good-quality? Third-party batteries are often unable to put out the high current required to run the Dyson in max mode, or not have much capacity to give good runtime.

After a great start the battery is now cutting out after only running a few seconds. All charging recommendations were followed so very disappointing and returning for a refund.

  • Oos for v6

I've been through so many after market batteries usually around $40 a pop, lasting no more than a year. Finally got fed up and paid for an OEM battery, which will hopefully last longer. If I get 3 years it'll be break even.

But at this price it's probably worth a punt.

    • +3

I bought an adaptor to use my powertool batteries - they're available for most different brands. Works great, and can swap out rather than waiting to recharge.

      • Do you notice any drop in performance with the lower voltage?

      • That's super cool, but I use the wall hanging charger mount, so with this adapter I wouldn't be able to hang it on the wall any more :-(

    • My Dyson v8 battery was only good for about 3 yrs, I bought an aftermarket one and it runs 2-3x longer than the original one did when new.

Apparently running the Dyson on its high setting really kills batteries.

      • Do you have a link for the aftermarket one you refered to? I would love to get one

        • I'd be a bit wary over claims of an aftermarket battery running 2-3x longer than the original one when new, unless the original batteries were faulty. The V8 battery pack uses INR-20700A cells which are 3,000mAh. 2-3x longer would mean 6,000-9,000mAh 20700 cells which do not exist.

          • @eug: Yeah, maybe I got carried away. The new aftermarket pack is just so much better than the original was at the time of replacement that I might be really biased.

I bought mine from lanplus.com.au for $78 and I was wary of any aftermarket batteries that claimed to be higher than 3000mAh. I've had the new pack for four months now and it still works as expected.

Thx op, got v7 battery for $19. Hope it works

    • V7 batteries don't work in a V6 even though they look the same

      • I got a v7 with dead battery. This still help me to make it run again

      • source? thx

  • These generally use low quality cells. There's no way it's 5Ah with 18650s.

  • How about for v10? Will pay more for better cells

  • +3
  • +5

I’ve tried this 3 times. They can never support max mode for more than 10 seconds. Only work on slow speed. They are always reclaimed cells from other dead ones replaced together it’s a scam

  • +1

Wouldn't be wasting my time or money on these. Batteries this cheap are always old and used batteries packed together. No way you're getting 5.0Ah 21.6V. Batteries are the one thing I won't cheap out on - especially when it comes to Lithium ion and their potential to catch fire.

Unrelated, but I saw someone buy an escooter battery pack online for cheap. He pulled it apart and there was a whole row of fake (empty) cells. Average person would not know any different unless you went to measure the output.

My cheapo aftermarket V6 one was dead in 6 months, compared to the original working well for 6 years.

Ended up getting a real one from Dyson to save the hassle, had to cough up $80, but saves the hassle of having to go without a vacuum for a week every 6 months while a replacement is arranged.

    • My OEM battery only lasted 2 years with regular use. I stopped using it with the OEM replacement after another year since I was sick of working around all of its flaws. I got a cheapo ozito wet/dry vac to do my vacuuming with and it is way better in every way except for not being cordless.

  • +4

I used to buy these cheap aftermarket batteries, and I quickly discovered that at the rate I was going through these cheap batteries, I would have actually saved on the more expensive official Dyson batteries in the long-run. And it's true a lot of these batteries you can't run on max power mode.

In one instance smoke started coming out of the aftermarket battery. I would never leave these charging unattended after that experience.

  • I bought a Samsung battery with 5 year warranty off ebay to replace my dead V6. It ran longer than the dyson but was dead within 6 months. Seller wouldn't respond. Ended up buying a Dyson v6 and a couple of filters (to put it over the free shipping threshold) from Dyson. Still going strong 4 years later. Just buy genuine.

    • I also got one with Samsung or LG cells and at first the run time is more than the original Dyson battery. However, within a year the run time drops down to half of what it was. It’s not dead but it’s very limited.
Maybe there are some good third-party battery packs available, but I haven’t found them yet.
The adapter to use power tools battery packs is probably the best way to go if you already have those and don’t want to spend more on a Dyson battery.
That said, for $20 including 2 filters I wouldn’t feel robbed if I only got a good one year of use from these.

  • Does anyone wait for 20 odd minutes before putting the battery back on charge?

  • I bought an ozito batteries adaptor lasts much longer if you have the 4ah one. You can also change batteries without removing any screws.

  • Damn, missed it :(

  • +1

i have a battery from dewalt with adapter used. Its insane the difference. Went from 6 mins on boost to 20+ mins

  • If you missed this but have Makita or Dewalt / Milwaukie batteries, then just grab yourself a Dyson to Makita battery adapter from ebay. Cost $20 - $30 and IMO is far superior.

    • Need a deal or either of the 3

    • Does the dewalt 56V batteries work with any adaptors out there?

      • Are you referring to the Dewalt XR FLEXVOLT (which are 18v / 54v )?

If so, then yes the Dewalt adapter will work.
