  • Experience on FLYLINKTECH battery?

    • Yup. Using it for nearly a month now. So far so good. Can't say if it lasts longer than original because I've never timed either or let them run dry in 1 go. The flylinktech grey colour doesn't match Dyson's grey, but no biggy when it's a fraction of OEM cost.

  • showing up as $40?

      Click on the $20 coupon

    • Theres a coupon option on the page

  • Bargain, thank you

  • Bought first, Will think later.

  • Damn missed it by seconds… showed up and couldn’t apply the coupon and it was gone…

    • +3

Theres this one with 40% coupon which brings it down to 21.59$
      Doesn't have the filters though.

      • Legend, thank you. Buying it as a back up only anyway so all good.

  • Does anyone have any feel for the fire safety of using a battery like these rather than the original? I have one but haven't installed after getting spooked by an ABC News story on lithium ion batteries causing house fires.

    • +2

Unlikely. They all have a BMS that protects the batteries

      • +1

Thanks. So what is different with the e-bikes etc that are lighting up? Dodgy BMS?

        • The difference is that e-bikes batteries have much higher capacity which will provide more fuel for the fire to burn. E-bike batteries also take a lot more abuse from shocks and vibrations and getting wet.

My aftermarket one bought from Amazon started smoking black smoke. My smoke alarm went off. I would never leave these charging unattended. Or in my case never buy them after my experience. I'm sticking to original Dyson. At the rate I was going replacing these aftermarket batteries, I would have ultimately saved in the long-run buying original.

Maybe just charge only when you’re nearby

      • +1

I've got mine attached to a smart power board so it's not charging 24/7.
Even if the vacuum is smart enough to stop charging I just see no point in it being on all the time if I can help it.

The reason why some products are cheap is because they saved money on QA/QC. No way I'd buy a large battery like this after-market. Not worth it.

      • Good feedback everyone, thanks! Anyone want a free unused aftermarket v7 battery? :)

        • Feels like an Ozbargain test? Ill say yes!

    • When you buy non-official batteries they typically aren't certified to the necessary Australian electrical safety standards that ensure the BMS has multiple layers of redundancy for safety. This is how these cheap brands stay cheap — as it adds significant cost to the manufacturer to test and certify to the different safety standards.
Having worked in the battery industry there are recalls all the time even with reputable brands.
The issue won't be when you're using it in your vac, it will be when you're charging the battery. So maybe if you charged it somewhere disconnected from your main home you might be safe.
I guess the risk vs rewards is different for everyone.

    Bought the V8 one, $29.90

  • Damn, missed it :(

  • Doh, literally bought a replacement battery on Ebay last week for $30.

  • If you missed this but have Makita or Dewalt / Milwaukie batteries, then just grab yourself a Dyson to Makita battery adapter from ebay. Cost $20 - $30 and IMO is far superior.

    • +1

If it can’t live and charge in the dock and be ready to go at a whim it’s not superior for how I use a stick vac. Mostly quick clean up in the high traffic/mess areas.

      • +1

There will always be exceptions and trade-offs, but the ability to charge a battery while using the device and swap it out to keep going is a big win for myself, not to mention the much higher capacity batteries you can use.

  • just for info

  • i bought something very similar off ebay and after 10mins it started erroring (red light would come on) and the vacuum would stop itself after 2-5 secs of operation. Perhaps the mAh was too much for it to handle? Or just a faulty item? Tried discharging, charging, reattaching, swapping in and out the old batt etc, but nothing would help and sent the seller video evidence and got a refund. Bought another random brand one off amazon and so far everything works smoothly, long battery duration, no issues, and the dyson got a new lease on life for just $30!

    • Similar doesn't mean same, these have much better reviews than most 3rd party batteries.

Maybe they're shit, but I'll go off the actual user reviews
