D-Link COVR-1102 AC1200 Dual Band Mesh Wi-Fi System Twin Pack $119 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

70

Comes in 1,2,3 point options. I figured 2 would be enough for most folks and the price is good for those of us that doesn't mind 2 year old tech.

Note: After setting up according to the app instruction, my devices can connect to the network but no internet. Contacted support and was told to go http://covr.local, turn off triple play and switch to dynamic IP (DCHP). Then everything worked. Thought this might help for any of you who bought this.

Can i use them as a wifi range extender with an Asus router?

    • -1

was going to hook it up to my asus router ….downside is asus and drink next to each other and then 2nd drink in another room 2 routers in same room seems waste …… currently borderline in tv room so this would fix it …. but although slink is open standard , my asus 4g ax56 doesn’t support meshing to it …..just sees it as another device ….most asus routers support meshing to other asus , my 4g ax56 is an exception …….

What model is your Asus router? It might support aimesh, and if so, just get another aimesh compatible router.

    • Similar question about mesh architecture.

After reading a bit I can't find the right answer. It seems strange having to connect the main node to your existing router. That leaves 2 wifi devices within 1 metre of each other and the second node somewhere else in the house.

Is it possible to setup the main mesh node then move it to another location in the house(back lounge) naming that in theory node 2 (1st node is your existing router, WAN connected in the front study). The 2nd mesh device is then node 3, upstairs. All wifi, not ethernet cable connected, don't have the ports in walls.

If not it seems like a waste. Is the other option get a 3 mesh system and swap my internet providers router with a new mesh node, number 1. Then put the other 2 round the house?

      • What type of connection do you have for the NBN?

        Address checker can confirm….

        • Currently via Exetel nbn FTTN/B. Noticed they are offering a free upgrade to fibre to the home which I might take up if that helps.

          • @HelpWanted: Free nbn FTTP offer is available to those on FTTN (selected locations only). There is no free nbn FTTP upgrade path for FTTB.

@Twix: Thanks, in pretty sure it's FTTN. By the looks an upgrade to FTTP might resolve My desire to not have 2 routers in the same room. If so it's time to upgrade.

              • @HelpWanted: On FTTP you end up with an nbn NTD fibre box plugged into a router which can be in the same or a different location + a mesh node(s) which can be wired back to the router or wireless.

                • @Twix: The box included from Exetel is a ZTE H268A. Need to do some reading to see it's capability or lack thereof

The main node is a router, so it may be able replace your existing router depending on a few things.

If your NBN service has a separate modem (HFC, FTTP, FTTC) then you could use this. For FTTN or FTTB you need a VDSL modem which often comes as a combined modem/router unit, but the product page does not mention that this unit has a VDSL model in it.

It might not have the same features as your existing router too, so it's worth doing a comparison.

It would only be under very brand specific instances that this could mesh with your existing router - it's not definitely a no, but it probably is

No the D-Link COVR can't be used as a Wi-Fi range extender. Look up Asus Aimesh.

thanks guys. i will keep it simple and just wait for a good deal for another aimesh piece. i use ax56.

    • I have a xiaomi router. Worked

  • Use this rather than the Telstra Smart Modem 2?.
