why the heck are they still selling this flawed garbage of a product

    (Good deal though OP)

Probably because there's like 100 million iPads out there that work with it.

      • indeed.

    • I am considering to buy this Apple Pencil for iPad Pro, but what are the reasons that you said is rubbish?
      Care to share? Thank you.

sure, it basically just comes down to the braindead design. you charge it by sticking it out the end of your iPad, leaving it extremely vulnerable to being snapped off

        not to mention

        • it's proprietary for basically no reason
        • overpriced
        • it needs a dongle to connect to a modern iPad (because for some reason some iPads are STILL shipping with support for only the Gen1 pencil)
        • can't use any Pencil with any iPad, you have to know which goes with which, which breaks Apple's simplicity gimmick

I expect the version 2 is better as you say, but I’ve been drawing with the version one for like five years, and garbage is a little harsh :p

      • Agree. Been using this for about five years now too. Garbage is quite harsh. It is better than the third party pens I had used previously, and more recently streets ahead of the HP pen that came with my HP dragonfly, but definitely not as good as the pencil 2 my daughter uses on her ipad air at uni.
I agree though that the charging mechanism on this generation of pencil was not one of Johnny Ive’s best moments (see also Apple magic mouse charging). There was an unfortunate period where the designers got ascendancy over the engineers at Apple, when as with all things, balance of the force is needed. but I have been able to manage for half a decade with the charging mechanism, it doesn’t take long to charge and even in a pinch if flat, a minute in the port and you are good for half an hour.
The purchase decision would depend on how much you would actually use it, and which generation pencil works with your generation and model of ipad. not difficult to find out.

        • Ever tried to stick the Apple Pencil in the Magic Mouse charging port?

@CandyMan: I don’t have a Magic Mouse. That charging design decision offends my design sense.

I didnt't use mine for a year. Now it won't charge. Googled it and many people got this issue as well.

    • that would not be unusual for any flat battery.

    • I found an Apple Pencil 1 in an empty iPad Pro case in 2020, 18 months later I got a 10.5" iPad Pro and it worked.

looks like the most scammy website imaginable

          • @Raynes: Yeh I think that may be a fair call.

I got an order confirmation and 5 days later no followup (card was charged immediatly as you’d expect).

            • @0jay: that sucks but come on it's one giant red flag man

@Raynes: Yeh that’s fair, jumped on the strength of an OzB link but clearly due diligence‘s still due

Just walk into an OW, and demand for price beat.
