    3080 10gb. just sayin

  • +6

    That seems good? haha

I'm so stuck, I currently have a i5 4670k + 1080ti FTW3 + 3440x1440 ultra wide and want to upgrade but I want to keep using my current GPU for the moment as I wait for some cheaper higher end GPUs to hit. I want to upgrade everything but the GPU, I don't know if I should wait for the 7000X3Ds to hit. Do I cheap out and go for DDR4 with a last gen mobo or do I get a more expensive AM5 board and so on. Do I just buy one of these builds and screw waiting for a cheaper GPU. Any help would be great haha.

    • +4

The performance difference between dd4 and ddr5 i heard just 2% to 3%. In this case, just go for intel with cheap motherboard is better off.

      • +2

I think the performance increase can be a higher percentage than that, though of course dependant on the speed of the ram you get… But also worth considering upgradeability down the track and if you're happy to spend 1.5k+ on a board now that already doesn't support current generation ddr5… Or what comes next.

Definitely some tough choices to make at the mo…

        • +1

It's still early days for DDR5. Especially with AM5, performance can varry quite a bit between different speed and latency. Good DDR4 kits are cheap in comparison. AM5 seems to work best with DDR5 6000 CL30 and DDR5 5600 CL28 according to LTT and HUB. Neither options are easily obtainable here.

          • @rubik33: Someone who got a DDR3 PC in the early Days of DDR4, I regret that for a few years and needed up costing me a lot more with upgrades

            • +1

@liveish: It depends on how often you upgrade. AMD AM5 if you plan to upgrade again after 3 or 4 years. But intel is better off for cheaper price if you only upgrade again after 5 years plus because you are likely to replace motherboard and ram again.

But that will change when AMD's price went down after a year or 2 as the only advantage of intel is its current price.

            • @liveish:

got a DDR3 PC in the early Days of DDR4, I regret that for a few years and needed up costing me a lot more with upgrades

Did it cost you more with upgrades than you saved initially? Would you really have been happy spending hundreds more for some slow early model DDR4 RAM, or would it have only postponed the inevitable upgrade a little bit longer?

I mean, DDR3 is still playing the latest games on my kid's PC.

Future-proofing is almost always the worst option, you're much better off with something that's fast now, and cheap, and saving the other 75% of the money for a future upgrade when your PC actually becomes slower than the current ones.

    • +7

Could always buy this build, sell the GPU (3080) and your old build and keep the 1080ti.

    • +3

Unless your financial situation has improved significantly since you got an i5, i don't think you should be concerned about what the x3Ds are doing
Unless you get a 4080/7900XTX you're probably not going to benefit from the x3Ds at that resolution.
I'd say just get an i5/R5. DDR4 gen if you want to save some money, DDR5 if you want to not be as limited when you do upgrade the GPU and dont care if it costs and extra $300 or so to do that now.

    • +2

I personally don't think DDR5 is worth it. I went 2700x + 1080ti to a 12600kf with DDR4 in lieu of DDR5. I found my 1080ti was bottlenecking with the new cpu in a few games. Then went a EVGA 3070 and sorted it out. The old 1080ti served me really well! Might get some good extra frames going 7800x3d with your 1080ti.

I've manually adjusted some items to BPC prices. Estimated $69 for case. Seems like a good saving.

  • Is the 5800x3d upgrade worth it?

    • +3

      Value is subjective.
The 5600 will perform like 90% the same as the x3d in most games, probably a decent bit better in media/multicore type stuff. (when paired with a 3080 and a reasonable resolution)
The best i can give you is the lowest i've ever seen a 5800X3d go for is $479(excluding shipping) and the lowest i've ever seen a 5600 go for is $164(excluding shipping) leading to a difference of $315 for a savvy ozbargainer
So +$289 is fairly reasonable if you look at it that way.

      • thanks! will look into it - good info and the price upgrade seems reasonable then!

    • +1

Resolution is relevant. If you're targeting 4k, 5600 will be fine. 1440p would be where a 5800x3d would give more significant gains, but whether it's worth the cost is up to the benchmarks and your own usecase/feelings of value.

      • Computer newbie here, why would the 5600 be fine for 4K but the X3D better for 1440p?

Wouldn't the beefier CPU be better for higher res?

        • +10

As you increase resolution, the load on the gpu increases (it has more pixels to push) while that on the cpu stays similar, which means the gpu will tend to become the limiting factor, making the increased speed of the 5800x3d less relevant.

Vice versa, at lower resolutions the cpu will start to become the limiting factor, and you'll see more of a benefit from the upgrade.

Wait what? Why doesn't this deal have more upvotes? Oh right, it was just posted. So many good deals recently.

    • +3

It's a very good deal. Not long ago this build would have been considered pretty high end with the 3080. But the pricing in this deal is more in line with lower to mid range builds.

      Crazy how time flies.

  • +1

Really good deal. would have gotten this if i havent got my rig

  • +1

I regret so much to buy techfast offer in Jan. 5600/3070ti for the same price and haven't even arrived yet

    • Cancel the order. They're too slow, they'll understand

      • +1

It's already been dispatched. And there's a 25% restocking fee.

        • Dispatched? Unlucky.

  • Can I replace the ram with ddr5 ram that I have? Or do I have an option to change the motherboard to the one that can fit ddr5?

    • no. And I don't think they do swaps, but you'd have to contact them to confirm.

  • Fantastic deal! Midrange price for a 3080.

  • I noticed the 4070ti + i5 13400f wasn't overly well received.
It's a $480 upgrade cost on this base model - is that upgrade value not considered worth it? Would a 4070ti @$1999 be the sweet spot?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/755710

    • I would go with 4079ti over this but it's obviously an extra $500. And everyone has budgets they need to stick to or else everyone would buy a $5000 4090 pc

      • Yeah my thinking too. Especially if you're considering adding the 5800x3D to this which takes it to $1888

        • I think the $84 b650 mobo upgrade is decent as it also adds wifi and is a much better board.

  • I am interested in purchasing this with the high-speed SSD upgrade (which also recommends MB upgrade). Would any of the MB upgrade options suffice?

    • +2

      Yes.
For more info, they're recommending a mobo upgrade because the b450's m.2 slot is limited to PCIe 3.0, and main B550 M.2 slot is always PCIe 4.0

  • I bought the techfast 3070ti deal literally yesterday, and these guys come out with this deal today and the suburb is so close to me for free C&C pickup.

Looked at techfast cancellation and they have a 25% cancellation picking order they hit you with.. Has anyone able to cancel their order literally less than a day of ordering it and not be charged?

I'd rather this rig, pick it up and not have to wait a month from Techfast…

    • Same case here. But I bought it on 26 Jan, and still waiting for it. This 25% fee is outrageous.

      • I might just bite the bullet, cancel it and if they charge me 25% then so be it. At least I can collect this today, and it's a better rig

        • +7

This is why I keep telling everyone not to use techfast. Bpc and enigma look like the ones to use now, techfast use crappy parts and have long wait times

        • Just to share my experience, I bought my first PC from BPC this week, waiting for it to be shipped, but the customer service from BPC is amazing! They replied to my urgent message at 1.20am (AEST) last night.

  • May need to undervolt 3080 if it will overheat

  • Does this MOBO need an upgrade or it's fine?

  • I'm a tech newbie here, would this build last 5yrs? I don't want any of the component parts to die within a year due to gaming 8hours everyday

    • The components won't die unless you get extremely unlucky. And even then, the gpu, for example, has a 3 year warranty.

A 3080 with a 5600 will be fine for several years. However, if you're after something to hit 144 frames at 1440p for 4+ years without significantly dropping settings you might want to consider the 4070ti option they have available.

This pc is great though, just depends on personal use. I have a 3080, 5900x and have had for the past 2 - 2.5 years from the TechFast deal and I game regularly.

This is an awesome pc and will last a long time.
Could always grab this one and do a full upgrade in a couple years at a similar price when the 5000 series cards are out if you find it isn't meeting your needs?

  • can someone confirm if the b550 Tomahawk upgrade refers to the B550 Tomahawk MAX Wifi as it seems to correspond wit the price difference. Also if its worth it over the standard mobo?

    • +1

Hmm, might be, they do only have the wifi one available to purchase seperately. I wouldnt bet on it though.
Whether it's worth it to you depends on what you value. If you're not gonna use wifi then it's only worth a maybe 2% performance bump from PCIe 4.0 so it's not very worth it then.
You'd get the same performance bump from the other b550 board though for cheaper.

    • Can confirm. Sales rep said the Tomahawk MoBo does not come with built in WIFI

  • Choose your own cooler option but there are no options?

    • Looks like they remove the included cooler and take $20 off the price then install the stock cooler so that you can install your own.

  • +2

I'm not technical, and thinking of buying this computer with upgrades to the cpu, memory, and the motherboard because it has a wifi. I'm confused with the cooler option, too.

I've never had a desktop before. Is there anything else I need for this to work? Is over budget as delivery is $100+ and I can't afford Windows, but maybe I buy that separately next month. Sorry to ask. You all know so much and I'm just trying to figure out what all these things are so I get what I need and want.

Is there anything better or systems similar I can look at with 32gb ram, a procesoor the same or better than 5800x? I don't care about how it looks even if it's a drab box. I don't like all the lights. My budget including delivery is max $2,000. I have to buy things like a screen, webcam, speakers etc at a later date so it needs to have plugs for those things if I'm making sense. If I get it, I am looking forward to playing games! Never had a games card before.

Non tech person here, sorry if I'm not up with the details and right language ok.

there's a same variant but with some razer products included (same price)
