Since the glacial delivery to Sydney Metro for the last one, allow at least a week to get your hands on it.
Cashback tracked flawlessly though, so good work.

  • I’m currently on amaysim $30 for 100gb, but wanted to know if jumping over to the telstra network is worth it?
I’m hoping to use this sim for the foreseeable future (if it’s worth the change)

Also what do they mean when they say “45gb for 3 recharges”?

    • if jumping over to the telstra network is worth it?

After trying all. Yes, telstra is worth it.

To compare mobile reception, you may want to use the Speedtest app on your mobile iOS Android > Map to provide you a general idea of the Tesltra/ Optus/ Vodafone coverage in your area.

However, a more relevant way for you test in your own environment would be to purchase a prepaid sim card for each of the telcos Telstra (e.g. Boost), Optus (e.g. Amaysim) and Vodafone (e.g. Kogan) networks to do speedtests and/or call tests.

There are a few deals that regularly pop up on OzB that might help get some cheap sims to test:

Boost Mobile (Telstra MVNO) - OP's current post - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/757688
      Vodafone - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/757719

      Things to note for this:

      • You do not need to port your number over. Keep your existing number with Amaysim (Optus MVNO). For these additional sim cards from Telstra and Vodafone, just set them up like new numbers.
      • It would be ideal to use the same device to do the testing. This is because different phones/devices may have different reception quality and the comparison may be less accurate. So, you may need to carry a sim ejector tool with you if you plan to test it around your area (e.g. home, work, cafe/park/shops that you normally go to).
      • When doing the speed testing, try to consistently select a more favourable server to give that network/sim its best fighting chance, e.g. if it is the Boost Mobile sim (Telstra MVNO) choose the Telstra - Melbourne server, if it is Vodafone sim choose Vodafone - Melbourne server, if it is Amaysim sim (Optus MVNO) choose Optus - Melbourne server.

Afterwards, you can list the pro's and con's of these telcos plans and prioritise accordingly:

      • price per month - some telcos deals are annual/monthly/30-days/28-days, so it would be ideal for you to normalise to help compare, e.g. 28-day renewals would effectively be recharging 13 times a year, so a $30 / 28-day prepaid is more like $32.60/mth
      • coverage - how is the reception in your area and the places you normally visit?
      • average speed - if you had to choose, would you rather have medium consistent speeds? or high sporatic speeds?
      • data allowances - how much data do you usually use per month? (e.g. if you're mainly WFH or often have WiFi, there may be less need for massive data plans)
      • international calling - how important is this to you?
      • Wi-Fi calling - this is handy because even if there is no reception, but you're connected to Wi-Fi, some telcos (e.g. Boost Mobile) allows you to use the Wi-Fi to make/receive calls (this is assuming your device has the function and supports it)

TL;DR - You ask, is it worth jumping over to Telstra network (e.g. Boost Mobile)? It depends on your circumstances and requirements.

PS - regarding the "45GB for 3 recharges" means that your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd recharge will each have 45GB data, but from the 4th recharge the $30 recharge plan (CIS - https://boost.com.au/pages/cis) will only provide 20GB per month. In other words, it would be ideal to check if 20GB/mth is enough for your use in the long-run.

      • Amazing reply! Thank you so much!

    • Do you have a link for amaysim $30 for 100gb,

      • I don’t think the link works anymore. I signed up to that deal a while ago.

  • No profit this time, but also no loss.

It will be hassle for an untracked purchase like this.

    • I made a claim on that one and it looks like it'll go through, but yes, agree that tracking with any cashback offers can be hit and miss.

  • No profit this time, but also no loss.

    Even Steven.

I had to also follow up on my untracked purchase with Shopback.

  • after 3 boost sim, no matter what i use it doesn't verify any of my documents, i need to call them to get it activate.

    • Try using a family member's ID & email to activate.

    • Easier if you use live chat.

      • So they can validate over the chat?

        • Yes and activate the SIMs.

    • I have the exact same issue. Took a few tries to resolve it: use a different email address. The + trick doesn't work, so either throwaways or generate some aliases if you have a domain. Log out of boost ID before you do the sim serial check. The ID verification is separate from the email check, I'm guessing if they are doing it correctly they should only be getting a yes or no response therefore no way of linking the name being ID'ed to their user accounts.

      • I always get stuck on the ID verification. Licence,Medicare card and passport all failed, they may be linking the name with the type of verification we used.

        • I fail at SIM serial check if I'm logged in. Then I fail after the email and physical address. Only thing different was the email address I used today and was successful.

  • If I buy one to give to someone else will I still get cashback when they activate within 30 days in their name and not mine?

    • Yes, they just track the Sim so long as it's activated (literally by anyone) you'll meet the requirements.

  • Any recommendations for a router where I can plug the Sim and have multiple devices connect to it and use the data?

  • Any Boost offers for 12 month recharges? Only ever seem to be for new customers.

    • +1

Port out for a month then back. Network providers treat existing customers worse than new ones.

      • Yeah there's very little incentive to actually sign up to a 12 month plan these days when we literally get paid to swap providers every month.

For whatever reason, it tracked as $0.65 cashback.. I purchased the $30 SIM.

    • Hmm. Same here

    • Same here. It tracked for me at $0.65.

The listed cashback rate is $0.65 for the $10 SIM and $10 for the $30 SIM.
The $30 SIM is currently discounted at $10 so this is confusing the backend system?

      • Nothing worse than a confused backend.

    • +2

Same here, I can't even lodge an enquiry until a certain amount of time has passed also which is annoying.
As I can see others have posted, seems it's just an issue with the system confusing the purchase of a $30 Sim discounted to $10 with the purchase of a $10 Sim. Hopefully SB can fix this without all of us having to lodge individual claims but I guess we'll find out. Very annoying!

    • Same same, am I scammed?

  • Given the $0.65 tracking issue affects multiple people (and I have confirmed from the invoice that my order is for the $30 SIM), is this an issue with the ShopBack backend?
Or will the correct $10 amount be reflected once the cashback is approved?
@gotyourback can confirm any of the above? Thanks

  • @ExPrinceHairy is that only the $300 prepaid sim upgraded cash back from $5.5 to $10 and the rest do not have $10 if you purchased by 18th Feb?

    $40 prepaid - $4.9,
    $200 prepaid -$3.9,
    $30 prepaid(currently is on sale $10) $3.25,
    $2 prepaid - $0.65,
    $10 prepaid - $0.65,

Can anyone share screen shot for the $10? if you dont get in touch with sb, they wont fix this.

    • +1

It was definitely $10 when I looked at this yesterday (before and after posting this), but I've just checked it now and it's changed to $3.25.

      • i saw it last night too, but it changed suddenly.

        • Probably need @gotyourback to clarify this.

    • I didn't take a screenshot either, but it was definitely $10 cashback yesterday.

Either way, it is a problem with ShopBack as:
      - it clearly stated that the $30 SIM had a cashback of $10 yesterday (is: it is not listed as spend $30 to get $10 back)
      - the $30 SIM was automatically discounted to $10 without any vouchers or code being required
      - the normal and non-special cashback rate for the $30 SIM is $3.25 and not $0.65

It is best to wait for @gotyourback to comment on this as it affects multiple people now. Be patient everyone, gotyourback has always been helpful in the past and is most likely busy right now during the weekends.

Here you are the screenshots to keep them honest

    • Nice, I have a screenshot from the mobile site using Chrome but yours actually shows the $30 Sim for $10 offer with the $10 cashback so it's much clearer.
      Thanks!

    • thanks, if i buy now, will i get the $10 rebate. Since the screenshot offers till 21-Feb, boost prepaid is good, all the call waiting and call conference is currently available.

Hey there mates, thanks heaps for waiting on me here, I've been catching up on comment threads where I can. I've had a look into this one, Boost Mobile have actually chosen to end this upsize earlier than originally planned, which is why the advertised rates have changed. Occasionally merchants can choose to end a promotion, and this is part of our terms of use. I'm happy to take a look at any individual's purchase if you want me to take a closer look at your account/Cashback earned there to see if I can help out, but do note that it's best to go off of the rate advertised at the time of purchase lest there are any updates.

    • Thanks for the response. I understand the upsized rates can change and did change later on.

However in this case, the listed rate on ShopBack was still $10 when I had made the purchased, and it was still listed as $10 even afterwards once the order had tracked at $0.65. Myself and a few others here had only made the purchase because of the information provided in the ShopBack website.

On the note that the promotion can end at any time, are you literally saying to never trust the cashback rates and information listed on ShopBack? If the promotion has finished, then the ShopBack website/app should be updated to reflect this. As a customer, how are we suppose to know if a promotion or upsized rate is still valid or not?

Can anything be done then regarding the purchase which tracked at $0.65? Myself and probably many others, only purchased this because of the upsized rate listed on ShopBack, which was still advertised as $10 at the time of purchase.

    • @gotyourback What about the transactions that tracked at the incorrect amount of $0.65 instead of $10? As per this comment above, for some people, it was definitely $10 at the time of the transaction.

      • +1

@zt7891 I'm happy to take a look at these cases, if you haven't already, shoot me a DM with your account information so I can help out.

        • Quick update: The full $10 cashback has now been received. Thanks once again to gotyourback for all the hard work and assistance in looking into and resolving this matter.
