Samsung HW-Q990B/XY Soundbar + $150 Visa Gift Card: $1199 + Delivery ($0 to Selected Areas) @ Powerland

540

Gift card brings the price down to $1,049 - beats the all time low for Ozbargains favourite soundbar.
Free delivery seems to be pretty random, I'm in Metro Melbourne and got free delivery.

Link to cash back promo

I didn't buy from Powerland. Managed to price match with JB for $1,099 (wouldn't give me that extra $20… :/) and then stack with $50 off $500 spend with Perks to bring down to $1,049 C&C. Stacked with GC for even further savings.

Edit: updated price

The Q930B Is also reduced to $849 at the moment which I personally think is the better option after trying both, there just isn't $380(or $230 if you must include the gift card) worth of improvement in the Q990B. I will note there is no gift card with the 930B.

I can also confirm that JBHIFI will price match - I asked online via their chat system and they sent me a reduced price link and I could click and collect. Obviously no gift card there too, but click and collect and no need to wait for it to come from WA if you are on the east coast.

    • Thanks for that insight. Ratings.com say the same. I have a Q950T do you think Q930B will be a significant upgrade ?

      • +3

I'd only upgrade if I was getting the Q990B, not the Q930B

      • +2

Nope! I don't even think the Q990B is a worthy upgrade looking at the specs of your current, you already have Dolby Atmos, you have the exact same speaker config as the Q930B as well, in all honesty I don't think you need to worry about an upgrade for a while yet!

        • -1

Agree, pointless spending a considerable amount on a very similar soundbar, given you've already got the wireless Atmos rears (I assume).

I had the Q950A for almost a year and it's great (especially for $840 instead of RRP $1,999).

The sub and Atmos/rears are great too compared to the cheaper q70t soundbar I had).

          • +3

@G-rig: A lot of people don't realise this so a bit of a PSA - audio is one of those product categories you can invest in and hold onto for a long time. I have a pair of senheiser headphones that are about 8 years old now, no need to replace them, I just buy new ear cups every couple of years. Its the tech(or lack thereof) surrounding the speakers themselves that age - like bluetooth, not having dolby atmos etc.

      • The 930B isn't an upgrade from either.
Depends how much cheaper - good to get if wanted to spend a bit less but they are all pretty good (and similar).

Remembered I got my first one from Powerland Ebay store when they had good deals on.

    • JB online chat say they only price match the $1229 offer but not with the $150 gift card discount?

      • +1

This is referring to my Q930B suggestion, not the Q990B - JBHIFI will price match to $849(I don't believe its a worthy extra spend as mentioned)

    • The 990 has recently had an update to metal speaker covers and a much improved subwoofer. Noticeably better, going by the reviews.

      • Q930B has a completely metal surround too, both front bar and the rear speakers are encased in perforated metal(I assume steel) Subwoofer is wood with a fabric dust covering. I believe the entire "B" series was subject to the metal update and subwoofer improvements, at least I can definitely confirm this with the Q930B vs the previous A model.

        • Are you talking about the Q950A? Or the step down model? As far as I can tell, the Q930B and Q950A have the same sub.

          • @TheContact: I am talking about both I guess, we are in pretty deep at this point lol. I dunno what you are referring to as the "step down model" But from my research(which is a smidge dated now by a couple months) the Q930B is the equivalent update to the Q950A. I noticed a significant quality increase in bass with the B series sub. I can't verify if there was any parts changed or whatever else as I am not going to dismantle a display unit to check lol, maybe it was just tuning from factory. But there was a not-subtle difference in the quality (for reference I have the sub sitting at +3 on the settings).

            • @doobey1231: I meant step down as in the next model down from the flagship Q950A. I'd consider the Q990B the Q950A update, both being the flagships and both being 11.1.4 channels.

Looks like Samsung introduced a bunch of soundbars going down the range that wasn't there in the A series. So there was no real Q930B equivalent previously.

Anyway, physically the Q950A and Q930B subs are the same, they might have adjusted the tuning or the driver, but I honestly doubt it's a physical change. Probably the same driver on the Q990B too, but with the addition of the "accoustic lens".

              • @TheContact: Yeah sorry got me a bit confused, thanks for clarifying. I didn't do as much research on the A series because the B had just come out and I was going for newest. Super frustrating when they mix all the model numbers up like that. It must be tuning then because I sat side by side and honestly the 990B was no different to the 930B. I honestly wonder if the only difference between the two is the extra couple speakers in the 990

    • Q930B is great value, if budget doesn't allow for the full experience.
Q990B is flagship for a reason, and easily worth 1/4 more in our setting (home theatre).
The reviews I read wrote Q930B struggled, and clearly isn't as complete. So I didn't want to spend all that money for a half-step.

      • -1

Disagree and most of the review sites I have read disagree too. A proper home theatre warrants its own AV set up, a sound bar set up is for the casual viewer, another reason why the Q990B isn't really worth the added spend.

Have you tried both? Cause honestly I went through music of different genres, movies of different genres, podcasts, audio books pretty much everything I have considered listening to on it and there was minimal difference between the two, and thats giving a completely unbiased review too. If you wipe your arse with $50s then sure go the Q990B(even then i would argue the Sonos system is a better choice for the "I don't have to worry about a budget" crowd) but if you have any sense of value for money then the 930B is the way to go, if you want more than what the Q930B can offer then at $1000 flat you are already creeping into AV system territory, in which case a good quality second hand set up would be the better option.

IMHO the Q990B sits entirely in the category of not much care to do the research but want the top dollar experience. Not to trash on your opinion, everyone sees these things differently, I just could not find anything about that system that warranted the extra 300ish bucks.

        • +1

there was minimal difference between the two

You keep talking about your opinion and implying reviews and such agree with it.

          Rtings doesn't agree : https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/tools/compare/samsung-hw-q99…

Neither do the other 6 comparisons I randomly pulled up on google. The 990b is a superior product, and it's not by a few percent. It's worth the expense. You don't have to spend it, the people that did aren't idiots.

          • @[Deactivated]: Not many comparisons around but looking at the website and spec they look almost the same or close enough, so just get whichever is cheaper..ideally listen to both - hard in a noisy store like HN, but better stores may have them (or at least ask someone who knows).

If you go down the AV 7.2 ch setup (or even 5.1) you'd end up spending heaps more for decent stuff. Not worth the cost or stuffing around IMO, unless you have a Proper HT room. Also those AV receivers are a jack of all trades (good for plugging a lot of stuff in but still not that great for music or as an amp).

            • @G-rig: No, looking at spec they are not "almost the same". One has more surround speakers, higher wattage, and far more features.

              • @[Deactivated]: Well I haven't tested both (I got the q950a), but doesn't look like much difference on the website except two extra speakers. What are these extra features? The 990 goes louder which makes sense.

Keep in mind all the speakers are still all fairly close together, it's not like separate ht speakers spaced much further apart.

Obviously the RRP is different for a reason, but seems like people will justify their choices either way.

                • +1

@G-rig: It offers more EQ features, and setup features. The subwoofers also more powerful.

Keep in mind all the speakers are still all fairly close together, it's not like separate ht speakers spaced much further apart.

The 990 is, actually, it's a wider bar. Specifically to help address that.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Yeah sounds like the q950a then, 10cm wider or something - do you think that makes a massive difference really? The review below says the soundbar (930) is much smaller, would make a difference if the actual drivers were bigger too. I think you are reading into the specs and marketing stuff a bit much, they are still both soundbars, and pretty similar. Two speakers 3m apart would be a big difference.

Not hatin', it's probably still worth getting the best one for slightly more given these great discounted prices (and then people don't need to worry if it's better or not).

I usually don't play around with the EQ but adjust the sub level accordingly based on the content and if it's late at night etc.

I did run that room correction feature once. Not sure what it did to be honest not reflected in the EQ/presets but will have to check - the sub is Integrated well and plenty of bass extension on the 0 level, even at low volumes. Sounds great in my apartment anyway, and wouldn't want anything less than the Q950A. ps got carpet and a 3 seater couch. I usually leave it in adaptive mode, or standard. Atmos is impressive and overrides the modes anyway.

The Samsung HW-Q990B and the Samsung HW-Q930B are the top-of-the-line offerings from Samsung's 2022 lineup—and you can't go wrong with either bar. The Q990B is the best of the bunch. It's an 11.1.4 setup with two more channels and a bigger design that brings a little more punch in the bass range. The Auto EQ allows you to adjust its subwoofer's reproduction based on your room's acoustics, which the Q930B lacks. The extra two channels don't make much difference in the sound. You can still get an awesome sound with the Q930B for less.

The Samsung HW-Q930B is a 9.1.4 bar released in 2022 as a more affordable alternative to the premium Samsung HW-Q990B. It's much smaller in size than the manufacturer's flagship model. However, it still comes with a dedicated subwoofer to bring plenty of rumble in the bass, as well as rear speakers with a new design that maximizes immersive audio formats like Dolby Atmos. While it lacks Auto EQ room correction to adjust the subwoofer's output, its SpaceFit Sound feature still allows you to optimize the bar's audio reproduction based on your room's unique acoustics. There are lots of other customization tools on hand, too, including Samsung's Q-Symphony, which pairs the bar with certain compatible TVs for a more immersive sound.

            • @G-rig: 990B is the minimum for a decent Soundbar setup, punching well above its weight for the price.
Anything less compromised too far, so if you’re buying “meh”, spend less.
In other words, if you’re not going to pony-up for a real system, 990B is the only correct answer, from all I’ve read & seen.

              • @Ulysses31: Yes, was mostly replying to everyone saying that the 930 is better..
Happy with the Q950A for what it is, much better than most soundbars (and the Q990B is the replacement model - no one would 'upgrade' to the 990B unless they could do so without losing any/much money, and would just be for the physical design improvements/confilicts as I mentioned above.

Paid $1189 for mine and I’m happy with it. Pretty good deal here.

  • dam I just order 2 days ago for $1,109.00 via ebay with $120 voucher. Can I still use the redemption?

      1. Offer not valid for sales made via 3rd party marketplace sites, including but not limited to eBay, Amazon, Catch, The Myer Market or Bunnings MarketLink.
      • The receipt will not show ebay so should be ok…

    • Does it mention ebay anywhere on the reciept?

  • +4

FYI the Q930B is 764.15 at the EPP

    • I see $749.50 (50% off) as the current price.

    • What’s epp? Employee purchase program for jb?

JB Hi-Fi is not price matching with the Gift Card, only advertised pricing do not take your frustrations out on staff thanks OB community :))

    • -5

do not take your frustrations out on staff thanks

This talking down to customers needs to stop, its been normalised during covid due to bad behaviour but I am honestly sick of it. There is no excuse to abuse staff members but equally there is no excuse for making these blanket statements to the people you are supposed to be serving. I am not and will never be the kind of person that abuses a cashier, but I am not going to shop at a place that talks down to me like this, you still need to earn my custom. I assume its a bait account but I am leaving this up because it is genuinely getting annoying.

  • i managed to get this for $960 at the start of the year at JB hifi ($816 with tcn gift cards)
    Awesome soundbar for the $$$

  • Did you guys/gals just cause that Associated account to be deactivated? Lol…

    • They are not actually associated

      • Fake account deserves it.

I bought it for $950 in January this year from TGG.
Attached receipt here if anyone wants to try their luck.

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/243386/101882/screensh…

    • How did you get them to price it? Was there a deal going on elsewhere?

      • I saw comments in one of the previous posts that someone got it for $950. So I just tried my luck by calling the store and asking nicely if they could reduce it to $950 and they did.

        • Someone here probably got it for $950 after considering gift card discounts, cashback, price-matching, haggling, applying a voucher and trying it on at half a dozen stores. I prefer your approach!

        • Just tried Brighton Vic, they wouldn't price match their own, and showed me they would only do $1399. Hahaha, yeah right.

          • +1

@ElectroFoX: Store peps have no incentive to sell for cheap if they are a busy store. Call standalone stores out of busy suburbs or the JB sales line (phone and not Live Chat)

    • Amazing price !!

  • $950 is standard price for this at JB and GG as their system allows to put down to that price as long as you add discounted additional warranty/cover. Got the Q930B for like $650 from GG without needing to haggle much and with discounted Gold Service extras

    • U beat me :( when did u buy it? I paid $788 first week of feb

  • Anyone brought from the ebay store? Do they send a non ebay invoice you can use to claim, and also use an ebay coupon to bring the price down?

  • Is this system overkill for a room that is 4m x 4m?

    • No, it will sound amazing

  • +1

Purchased q930b from TGG price matched with appliance central @ $788 combined with $110 cashback ( later received $50 again). Quite happy with 9:1:4 setup ( had to put the rear close to ceeling as i have a open living. Surround sound is really good with good bass. Music isn’t like BOSE but i am spending half so can’t complain. I think get the 930b and save the money for a better tv this year
    :)

    • How far away are the rear speakers from the ceiling? I was thinking of doing the same, but would have to get a sparky out to have them hardwired. I'm guessing you lose any effect from the atmos upward facing speaker if it's too close to the ceiling

      • Its not loosing that much. Ceiling is 2.8m high . I have placed it at 6 feet from ground on a ikea platform

    • How did you get the cash backs?

  • Anyone find good rear speaker stands to go with this?

  • FML… I waited since start of the year for the all time low again… finally pulled the trigger wednesday with this week's powerland deal: $1,174.00 delivered.

  • Keep in mind the 990B is not a small soundbar, at 123cm wide. If you have a small TV, you might want to consider the 930B as it's a bit smaller (111cm wide).

The 930B probably also uses less power

    • Not battery powered. So I’m curious why consumption is a concern

      • Not a concern, just a fact. More speakers at a higher wattage will cost more to run. A lot of people here are trying to save money. Given a soundbar is something that you use most days, it might be worth considering how much it costs to run.

The power consumption of my soundbar doesn't bother me, but it all adds up

  • 2 questions for those that have this please;

    • Anyway to make the sub wired instead of wireless?
    • Would mounting the rear speakers in the ceiling (2.7m high) ruin the experience and make this not worth it?

    Thanks.

    • +1

Anyway to make the sub wired instead of wireless.

      Don't think so, and why?

Would mounting the rear speakers in the ceiling (2.7m high) ruin the experience and make this not worth it?

Yes, they are designed to spread sound in several directions.

Sounds like you are leaning towards a proper HT setup.

  • Pulled the trigger with this Powerland deal last night and paid before 12noon. Hopefully can honour the gift card as I haven’t received the invoice from them yet lol.

  • +1

I Don't get the $150 visa card thing? surely you only get that if you buy from Betta?
