@9839002: Not really. The profit on memberships means they reduce margins on products themselves. Not a bad trade-off sometimes.
Coles doesn't charge you a membership, but bakes tons of margin and profit into each and every product you buy.
Costco also has really good customer service and product guarantees that many people take advantage/abuse. As well as other well priced services from cafe to tyres to glasses etc.

Revenue from membership fees increased 9% to $4.2 billion.That's just for you to.walk.in the door. And their prices aren't often any better than elsewhere, you can just buy more.

Yep! Literally saw heaps of PS5 stocked in my local Costco yesterday at that price. I didn’t post it for the same reasons as the comments above me.
It's still wild that it took over two years for it to stay in stock, despite the price rise.

You don't need Prime to buy stuff from Amazon. Even lightning deals doesn't require membership (unless you want early access to them 30min before non-Prime members).
As for being charged shipping for under the total threshold, this is mentioned in the title for every deal.
