These are the 'new' bag that isn't replaced for free anymore.

      • ah ok I'll edit my post, so are they not replacing the old cloth ones for free anymore?

        • Refer to comment below:

Woolworths will continue to honour the replace-for-free offer on any Bag for Good bags that have already been purchased. If a Bag for Good is damaged, Woolworths will replace it with another bag of equivalent value.

          • @RichardL: Oh really!? I asked for a replacement and got told they're not replacing them any more. Had to buy a new one.

        • WW have replaced 2 of my old bags with the new ones

          • +1

@trixieb: Yeah, but get those replaced.

          • @trixieb: Same for me. However I was told the new bags that replaced the old 'free' bags will not be replaced free anymore.
i.e. this is the last bag WW will replace free.

They should be given free anyway because we dont get paid for serving and packing our own groceries.

    • +7

I don't agree on giving it for free as you'll have free loaders that will use one bag per item just cause it's free.

I think 10c is a fair amount to charge, certainly not $0.99.

Or just remember to grab the 50+ stuffed in the car or at home… People complaining about bags in 2023 is just pathetic

Comments like this show how pathetic some people are. Entitled good for nothing's

  • +8

Not as good as the previous cloth ones. These wears out easily. Also note that this new ones don't state that if it wears out they will replace it. So no replacement if it wears out.

    • +2

They also don't have the plastic base at the bottom of the bag to carry heavier things.

  • +1

Appears to be the same price in the ACT as well.

Assume this is because they are getting rid of the $0.15 plastic bags in QLD and the ACT.

Quote: the new 99c bags do not have a replace-for-free promise, however it’s claimed they are even more durable than the Bag for Good.

However, Woolworths will continue to honour the replace-for-free offer on any Bag for Good bags that have already been purchased. If a Bag for Good is damaged, Woolworths will replace it with another bag of equivalent value.

I'm guessing the damaged Bag for Good gets replaced with one of these new junky ones so over time Woolies no longer need to replace anything.

Good thing I bought about 40 of those Bag for Good versions when they were $0.10.

Wrong! The new bag is of lower quality. The one I got (to replace the old one) has one of ' face' open after 1 week use. The new bag is too "hard' and not flexible, so that easily cut by a pack of lamb ribs.

    • I've looked at them and I suppose they are "more durable" but only because the stitching on the previous ones was hopeless/always came undone.

    Lost me at $0.49

I don't like this getting rid of the 15c bags when they have so many items already in their store that are smothered in plastic.

I think a lot of these corporations are into faux environmentalism, just look at the whole redcycle saga. I they really cared about the environment they would be installing bins at the back of the supermarkets filled with packing boxes that customers could reuse.

      Get the cheap paper ones?

    • It's not Jack the Slasher.

    • Reminds me of my local Rashays that dont have plastic straws (as per the law) but have so many annoying useless orange balloons out front

    • I they really cared about the environment they would be installing bins at the back of the supermarkets filled with packing boxes that customers could reuse.

That's hard for many reasons however one of the main ones is that most boxes are 'shelf ready' and not very good at carrying things one they have been opened to put on the shelf.

Plus the stores recycle the cardboard by compacting it and recycling it as pure cardboard.
The compacted cardboard takes up less space in trucks and the cardboard is sent straight to a cardboard recycling facility without the need to be sorted (which involves extra transportation and handling, so makes more emissions).
Not to mention some consumers may not recycle the cardboard and send it to landfill.

      • To some extent this may be true, but I think this could be easily remedied by requiring certain dimension on the packaging. I've been previous to New Zealand and their Pak N Save supermarket does a good job of using these packing cartons a second time.

        • It could also be easily remedied by providing customers with plastic bags. ;-)

    Note: reusable, not replaceable

2.5x price of the 20c deal zzz https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/681619

  • +1

The foldable ones are 49c too. Grabbed a few for family members. Do not like the material of these new ones though

  • +3

If I'm paying 49 cents, it's got an implied warranty of at least two years.

  • these bags are awesome - strong, durable and can be used again and again.

  • Increase markup by 100% on essentials and groceries and give 50 cent discount on bags.

I think people have stopped buying them.

    • That sites other articles, ugh… mind poison. They are so dishonest to the point of cringe.

  • +3

Remember when bags were free and done out of courtesy of the customer? Now, masquerading through environmentalism, virtue signalling and the desperate need for customers to feel like they’re good people, the supermarkets make an additional profit on your convenience.

Still, I like this deal because it’s 1/2 price!

  • Frankly if they sold me the 99c bags with a "replace free forever" promise that they are now breaking so soon after starting it, then they should just refund my money and take the bags back. What a scam.

  • Are these replacing the black/grey/green rollup ones? I like that they don't have a giant Woolworths logo on the side

  • +3

Remember when they told everyone that they're saving the planet and convinced everyone to pay for plastic bags instead of receiving them for free.

They then made virgin plastic toys a week later.

    Please smarten up people.
