    LG C2 EVO 42" $1395 & 55" $2195

Nice, I missed the last 42” deal and have been watching daily waiting for them to drop again, just snapped one up for a new monitor

I’ve always wondered about doing this… Ho w far do you need to sit back? And what scalding do you use for the desktop?

        • +1

Ive already got a 49" UltraWide and with that I sit about 60cm away from the screen. I'll probably try the same for this one.

Unsure what scaling to use, I will have a play with it. There's 2 OLED subreddits where people have come up with the best settings so I'll be digging into that once I have it.

My 49" Samsung Ultrawide is one of the early CRG49xxxx models. 5120x1440 etc. It's a very nice monitor, with one downside - it pumps out a ridiculous amount of heat. Sitting in front of it for 9 months of the year is like sitting in front of a heater. great in winter though.

Would I need a helmet in NSW? Wouldn't want to get fined, would cost more than the TV.

Have you seen the new parking fines for if you park your ICE car in an EV parking spot? $2200 no joke. This is clown world.

Sony is brilliant, the sound out of it is surprisingly good. The screen acts as a speaker "Acoustic Surface Audio"

    • +2

Agreed, got this last year and it is brilliant. We are very happy with it.

      • Same — you can't beat Sony for image processing and the (only) two HDMI 2.1 inputs hasn't bothered me.

Name in title for LG should be 65" (not 55")

2021 tv in the 2022 run out.
    Constipation somewhere

  • Anyone know the boxed dimensions for Sony A80J 55?

    • Probably wouldn’t fit in a hatchback 55”…I tried once and had to tie the boot with a rope with the tv sticking out.

      • +1

Got a Ute with canopy but thinking depending on how much padding in box might be too tall to stand it upright

        • +2

I’d probably just pay the $26 delivery fee. 👍

          • +2

@ne-us: Oh damn it’s $28 for me but yeah for $28 stuff it, delivery it is!

            • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Mine came up as $26.99…only downside is you won’t know when they’ll deliver it instead of picking it up yourself. 👍

              • +4

@ne-us: Get Sony to price match, free delivery until end of March.

      • +1

I managed to fit the LG C2 55" in my WRX hatch with the boot closed for reference. Box size is likely different for the Sony so YMMV.

Thanks op, waiting for the Sony eBay store to price match so I can use my $120 coupon.

  • It's almost like JB jumped before something else happened 😝😝😝

  • I got the 48" last Sunday, $700 off for the 2022 model… https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/sony-48-a90k-bravia-xr-ol…

Have this tv and worth every cent. I paid for it more but no regrets picture is stunning even sd channels look good. You don’t need a sound bar with this one

    • +3

I agree sound is great but won't get the bass impact of a subwoofer though, but plenty surprised by the quality of the sound watching action scenes!

  • Not big enough will wait til 75" at 2.5k mark OLED

    • I got a 65", and I need 75"+ now.

I could only imagine 55" in a bedroom, but I don't watch TV in bed lol

  • Was trying to get the Samsung S95B for $1800 again… Might go Sony instead.

  • Is this too big to use as a computer monitor? The Sony 55" I mean. I am happily using the 65" as TV but wish it was bigger!

    • +1

don't use a tv as monitor, get a monitor
also, you don't need a 55'' monitor LOL

    • Stack with Amex offer $50 rebate for $300 or more spend.

      • Just got this TV for $1375 on the Sony eBay store free delivery using the $120 voucher for eBay plus.

      • Sony Store have now price matched… Is there a way to use multiple credit cards when ordering online? Want to stack Amex rebates!

        • I’d probably buy it from the Sony eBay store and use an eBay voucher but depends on how many $50 credit card rebates you can claim

The 55" Sony A80J vs LG C2…recommendations please.
The LG is about $250 more, is it worth it? More of a TV/movie watcher than a gamer.

    • +3

For TV/movie watching the Sony has the edge with its software processor.

Lots of reviews rate the A80J (2021) above the A80K (2022) in terms of sound & picture quality.

Got my 55" A80J in Xmas/NY sales for similar price (after cashback).

Outstanding picture even at lower resolutions & best sound I've had on a TV for ages. Notice light bleed on every LCD TV I've seen since getting this OLED.

Only downside is being advertised to by Google TV, but same for any TV with Android OS released in last few years. If you don't need Android apps then can choose only to setup digital TV channels or there are workarounds using an alternative launcher, but takes a bit of effort & being technically savvy.

At this price though, doubt very much you'll be disappointed.

    • I have the Sony. If you don't use a soundbar the sound out of the Sony is really good. Only thing that has pissed me off is no pausing of Live TV even though the TV is capable of it. It's tucked away in the manual but it says that feature isn't available in Australia.

    • -1

The C2 (2022 model) has the newer/brighter EVO panel than the A80J (2021 model), so I'd probably get the C2 for $250 more.

      • +1

Rather a blanket statement there :-).

Depends on what environment you'll be watching it in and how far from panel you are.

My A80J is next to a set of long windows, but doesn't get too much daytime use and sat only about 2m from it. Even in daytime use though, don't notice much reflection or lack of brightness. The richness of contrast on OLEDs (esp. blacks and dark scenes) compared to the sometime paleness and washout of LCDs, means in real world use I haven't noticed any brightness issues in 3 months of viewing.

Actually, I don't like the default brightness settings for most modern panels (feel like they are going to make my eyes bleed and that's just the standard, not even the shop demo settings).

I've turned the brightness down on my A80J significantly and tend towards a more cinematic level of brightness that I prefer.

Brightness is only one factor of the whole experience of the picture.

Best is to compare both models side-by-side in as close to an at home environment as you can find, then tweak settings to see if it can satisfy your personal preferences.

        YMMV.

        • Oh I should say I also have the A80J :-) And I've been very happy with it (although would have been even happier at this price!).

I use "Calibrated" mode for the on-TV Netflix app, and "Dolby Vision Bright" for most of the other content I watch (HBO Max, Hulu, etc. streamed from an Apple TV 4K).

But despite being completely happy with my A80J, the C2 does objectively have a better OLED panel, being a newer generation EVO panel. Note that Sony uses LG OLED panels, and for the same generation panel (e.g. C1 vs A80J) Sony generally has better image processing e.g. for upscaling SD content.

          • @theo96: Fair enough, my main point though is it's not all about the specs.

Reviews I've seen suggest the real world use difference between C1 and C2 is marginal.

If you are a movie/TV watcher rather than a gamer though, I also stick with my original assertion that the A80J sound and picture are likely to be more suited, especially in performance with the Sony processor on upscaling.

Newer and a bit more expensive doesn't always mean better - is dependent on your individual real world use and for $1495 for the A80J you are unlikely to be disappointed if mainly a movie/TV watcher.

I ruminated over the A80J vs the newer A80K for some time before buying, but for at least $500 less for the A80J am more than happy with the choice.

            YMMV :-).

            • @opposablethumbs: Agree — the general consensus is Sony is preferable for movie/TV watching and $1495 for the A80J is tremendous value.

When I was researching the A80J vs A80K, it was strange that reviews were mixed in that the K isn't comprehensively better than the J. You'd expect Sony to know what they're doing and release an improved product year-on-year.

  • Does this support HDMI 2.1?? Will this work well with PS5 and Series X ??

  • +1

    Thanks OP! Grabbed myself one.

    • $1375 on the Sony eBay store with $120 voucher or use the 5% code.

  • They’re going to showcase the new 2023 Sony TVs in March so clearing out the 2021 stock.

  • You guys notice most of the time it's any TV under 77" on discount. This is gonna be a long wait for 77" to come done to mid 3000s

  • Is this lg 65qned80sqa value for money at $1196?
