16:10 ratio too, for those who prefer more vertical space.

IMO, only minor negative would be the lack of full size HDMI.

    • +4

Full size HDMI makes it lose the slimness unfortunately.

      • +2

True, can always carry an additional dongle anyways.

  • +1

Has anyone had experience with this? Keen to get one, but bit worried if it's any good.

    • +10

Never been posted before so I seriously doubt anyone has this. Take a chance and let us know 😝

      • +14

Yeah tomwhiteallnight, we're counting on you. When will your review be up, we need to decide.

    • I have two similar ones. It's so good for travelling and touch screen capability.

    • The specs on paper sound great. Especially the aspect ratio. The only issue I’ve had was the seller. I bought the 15.6” FHD which died a week after the refund period. The seller refused to help and just kept delaying and coming up with inane “tests” to drag out the time until it was 6 months past then ghosted.

TLDR great monitor if it doesn’t die

      • Yeah, if I were to buy one of these no-name brands, I'd prefer to do it through Amazon, even if it means paying a little more.

      • was it this particular seller for this item that ghosted or another seller?

  • 2.5K UHD, first time hearing that

    • Oh yeah it's not 16:9 so I can't say that. WQXGA then :)

  • Really curious what a use case for something like this is? Laptop sized screen without the computer part…I can think of connecting to something like raspberry pi but again not sure what purpose you’d use it for.

    • +6

I use it as a portable 2nd monitor for my laptop. Useful as I'm a IT consultant usually working from multiple locations throughout the week. My laptop and a 14" portable monitor i use fit neatly into my laptop bag. Requiring only a USB C to power and provide the video feed is great.

      • would you perfer a 16 inch laptop as its more portable than two screens

        • +6

I use a XPS 13 and a portable 14" monitor, which is more useful to me. Plus, I don't think a wider screen or laptop would fit within my motorbike storage. The extra monitor is way more useful to me than one wider laptop screen.

        • Not sure why you're downvoted, but a big, heavy, high res laptop is very inconvenient for business use.

    • Multi-monitor on the go.

    • +1

For productivity reasons on the go. 2 screens is much better than one small laptop screen. Great for working from the car, park, bed, hotel etc.

Useful for a Helios setup for DCS World:

some people also hybrid it with real click buttons mounted on a frame over the top for the MFDs:

I have a uperfect 13.3" lapdock - laptop without the computer part. It's been surprisingly useful. It's also a much better experience than using an iPad to extend displays as it is a real display.

      I've used it for:

      • Second screen working away from home
      • Setting up PCs, raspberry Pi
      • Using my desktop on the couch once
      • Steam Deck desktop mode
      • Switch
      • Samsung Dex - tablet/laptop mode
      • Just wondering how this is a better experience to using an ipad to extend displays on a mac? I already have the ipad so hard to justify, but this could be handy with the VESA mount..

        • You already have the ipad. So this might not be for you.

        • +1

          Real display vs video.

No latency especially if used over wifi, no susceptibility to wifi issues, bigger.

    • +1

connecting to something like raspberry pi

Would there be touch drivers available for a pi?

I’m betting there’re linux drivers but are they compatible across all flavours?

      • +1

        Touchscreen works with a Pi.

        https://youtu.be/YTsMxdwyIzo

        • Touchscreen works

          Diff screen though.

Touchscreens can use different standards/hardware so makes sense there’d be different drivers.

          • @0jay: I have a different monitor and i used a pi4 and pi3.

            Touch works.

@Clear will agree. Touch works on their portable monitor also.

            • @xoom:

              Touch works.

So you’re saying that all touchscreens use identical hardware and therefore the same driver works for them all?

              • @0jay: Not saying they all use same hardware. Just saying that the drivers whatever raspberry pis uses have had no issues with numerous touchscreen monitors.

                Does Raspbian support touch screen?
Raspberry Pi OS provides touchscreen drivers with support for ten-finger touch and an on-screen keyboard

    • Portable monitor and Samsung Dex is a use case for these.

      e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4dte18U-fM

    • +3

I'm addicted to these things! I use them for their intended use case (to have second monitor when travelling), but I also have them VESA mounted at my desk. I use them for my camera system, entertainment (eg. Google TV/Firestick), and my "non work" activity. The touchscreen aspect is very cool, camera example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ne5lcgtdSBI
(just to clarify, the ones in my video are much cheaper and lower spec than the ones in this deal)

  • +1

hmm.. specs look good. But not sure if it is 100% real with all the features on HDR, Freesync, Brightness and all etc.

Anyone got one of these to confirm?

    • I agree with you, I'm leaning toward fake specs.

    • +8

They're not particularly expensive features to have. Just a good panel. Many phones have more brightness than this.

HDR10 is free to implement. HDR10+ and above are licensed with stricter standards. Freesync as the name suggests is also free.

      • Only wondering because these features turns a $300 monitor into a $500 monitor usually for desktops with equivalent style of specs. So it's not exactly "free" features to put into any monitor - if that was the case, it would be standard on everything.

        • Have you seen the difference between a desktop monitor and a portable monitor? There's a reason there's a big difference. Size is the obvious one.

          • -2

@Clear: "Freesync" is free to licence from AMD. NOT "Free" to put into a monitor mate. There's extra electronics to do this and it's also what makes a $100+ price difference in monitors in general.

            • @bchliu: Like I said… size. You're comparing this to a big ass monitor that's 24" and above that you slap down on the desk, it weights abit, has a big stand, multiple connections and what not.

While this is a small lightweight portable monitor that you can stick in a bag.

It's the panel and panel size that make the difference in price. No wonder this is cheaper. Adding some software standards are bugger all in the manufacturing costs.

              • -5

@Clear: I am saying that extra features makes the difference in price - HDR10, FreeSync etc etc. These are the elements that turn monitors from $180 to $280 etc. regardless of whether it is a desktop monitor -or- a laptop monitor -or- a USB portable one.

HDR10 is free to implement. HDR10+ and above are licensed with stricter standards. Freesync as the name suggests is also free.

It's not "Free" at all in monitors regardless of whichever type because some of these features require higher quality panels and electronics to get working. It's not "Free" to the consumer as you have alluded to.

                • +5

@bchliu: Yes these are premium features and they increase the price of the monitor. Hence why it's not as cheap as this 16" portable monitor

HDR10 is an open standard and Freesync is a royalty free, free to use standard as well. There's no costs for the manufacturer to use these. However they do need a panel that supports it. HDR really has no requirements and you can get shitty ass panels to do it, but freesync needs to be able to support the higher refresh rates.

If they were claiming HDR10+ or G-Sync which aren't free, then saying this whole thing is fake is more believable.

It's not "Free" to the consumer as you have alluded to.

I never did. That's your incorrect interpretation.

  • Wondering if I get use this screen as an upgrade for my security system… No need for keyboard mouse combo and full touch screen…

  • It's probably been mentioned hundreds of times but how easy are the returns/refunds with Aliexpress if it fails within the 'warranty' period?

Why I ask is knowing I have fairly easy returns with Amazon Prime, I recently bought a lower spec 15.6" touchscreen from Amazon with one day delivery but it failed after the second day. I then bought a second one and it did the same thing. Both times it was after the power was physically disconnected and then reconnected. I messaged the seller who said they could not replicate the problem and tested it on 100 monitors. The conclusion was that it must've been a bad batch that Amazon got. The item is no longer available.

While not really a bargain I got "17.3inch 2K 144Hz Portable Monitor 2560x1440p Touchscreen 1ms 144Hz High Refresh Rate Freesync Ripstop Expand Gaming Screen" for $335 (currently slightly cheaper with codes, might be some others to make it even cheaper) and arrived within a week. I'm super impressed with it although I've only used it a dozen or so days. Power cable that comes with it is great, doesn't feel super cheap and about to fall out of the power board at any second. Screen feels like great quality compared to a 1080p cheapo I got from Aliexpress.
I've only hooked it up via HDMI so not sure how the touchscreen feature works as i assume one would have to hook it up via usb-c for that. Silky smooth mouse movement with the 144Hz. A lot of $ especially if it breaks depending on how the return process works. Loving it to add an extra screen to my laptop when away from my desk and often use it at my desk too since it can sit under another monitor if the monitor is raised up a bit.

    • Problem is when you like to bring the portable screen around to say work. 17" starts to get cumbersome to put inside a backpack. Where as 14 to 16 is still very manageable.

      • Because the bezels are very thin and it comes with a soft sleeve it actually fit's in my satchel next to my laptop fine although it of course depends on ones bag. I do notice the extra bit of weight though if having to drag it all around for a long time

        • +1

of course depends on ones bag

What i was alluding to. Most peoples bags can barely fit a 15" laptop. Let alone a 17" portable monitor to go with it.

Weight is not much of an issue. It doesn't weigh that much.

Is this not a very similar item for ~$190 AUD?

    • Link?

        • No worries. We've all done it.

        • +5

Seller feedback being 88.9% is extremely low. Anything under 95% can't be shared here either 😕

          • +2

@Clear: ah ok. Thanks for the info Clear.

            • +2

@joetrim: I'm not saying they're fake though, as you can see from the reviews. Hopefully anyone that orders can give a good review so their overall feedback is pushed up and deals can be posted.

        • -4

I suppose it's the bezel setup (this one has a slightly bigger bezel at the bottom) and Freesync that is the only difference on specs. But hey, according to Clear - "Freesync is 'free'" but just not put into this model for 100 bucks less. Lol.

          • +1

@bchliu: The one linked appears to be for the 60Hz version. ~$148USD is closer to the one listed by OP.

  • Is it best to purchase in USD using international fee free CC or pay in AUD?

    • +1

Usually your Banks’ currency conversion rate is better than the retailers, so do USD.

      • +1

I haven't bought a lot lately using USD and this was my also understanding from a while ago so thanks for that

  • Do you guy's think the touch screen would work with samsung dex? Want to use it to view swan secutity monitors.

    • +1

If my portable monitor is anything to go by. Dex complete with touch should work.

    • Yeah my other one does.

  • Would really like an 18 to 20 inch portable. 1080p is fine.

Moving to a new office soon with trash hotdesking so I'll lose my 3rd 24inch monitor in portrait for teams and notepad/tasks.

    • I'd guess something that size would be too power hungry to run off USB.

      • +1

Not to mention bulky to be lugging around.

        • Depends on use case. 17" portable monitors exists and offer quite a nice boost to screen real estate. I'd imagine an 18" would be the same thing but in a 16:10 aspect ratio like with newer laptops.
20" would be huge though, I think that would be beyond practical in terms of portability.

          • @FireRunner: Well on my commute (train) most peoples backpack barely fit a 15" laptop. So 17" and above portable monitors will be far big a stretch for them. And 20" portable monitors. Yeah forget about it.

        • Only need to lug it as far as my locker. Not going to drag it home every day.

          • @Mechz: Well some hotdeskers don't even get that luxury

    • 18.5" is about as large as they get. Plenty of 17.3" too.

  • HD… You've done it again

    • Guessing its deliberate.

  • is this the same monitor excluding the touch? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004508875049.html?spm=a2…
any chance on getting a promo on a non touch one with same specs

    • Seems to be a tad brighter without touch. Unfortunately the MAR codes don't work on it.

  • Does this portable monitor have a battery?
I can't see it listed in the specs, and other models appear to mention it.

    • +2

No battery but you can power it up with a power delivery powerbank. Or a type c cable to type c cable to your laptop.

  • updoot simply for using 2.5K and not 2K

  • Can I use it as a photo frame, I think Lenovo has something similar

  • I have placed my order - ETA 24th March .
I am traveling next month and this portable monitor will be very useful as i need to work during my travels.
