Free 1 Year Extension for NRMA Blue Membership for Lapsed Members @ My NRMA

1860

Just received an email from NRMA regarding my lapsed NRMA Blue membership which I didn't bother renewing as I didn't really use it much. Pretty much ignored the few follow up emails requesting $60 to renew the membership. Just received an email now stating NRMA has renewed my NRMA Blue membership for another year for free.

Most probably targeted but I suggest if you're not using your membership, let your existing membership expire and see if they might renew your membership for free.

Details below:

Hi XXXXXX,

It’s been a while since you’ve joined our member benefits program, NRMA Blue.

So you can enjoy more chances to save, we’re extending your NRMA Membership free of charge for another year, valued at $60.

Here’s to another 12 months of unlimited benefits across Australia. Check out some of our member favourites below.

There isn’t anything you need to do, your Membership will be renewed automatically. Just a reminder that NRMA Blue does not include roadside assistance. If you’d like to upgrade or have any questions, please call 13 11 22.

I got it just now as well. Ignoring their 5+ calls has sorta paid off I guess. Funnily enough they would call me stating things like "you are now overdue for payment"….

    • +2

There was no way that I could see to cancel it, either.

    • Haha I got it as well. Good to know that we could ignore them and they would extend.

    • Sane here, it's second time it renewed for free

    • i got the email as well, but i never paid for membership, its the free one going on

    • I am not the only one receiving multiple calls from them weekly…

  • +1

I was still able to use my membership past the expiry date in January.
Just got the email today that it has been extended and now showing expiry of January 2024.

    • Yes same here, & i was like why should i renew!!!

  • Got the free renewal too. Have used the meal discounts a few times

  • Yeah I got this aswell :)

  • +2

Mine got extended as well but I never used anything.

  • Just checked and I got this too. Have only used it to get a discount on my insurances.

  • I got the same too….. yay for us.

  • +4

LOL serves me right for actually taking the effort of cancelling.

    • Same here…I finally picked up one of their numerous calls last week and got them to cancel my account…

      • Same. Maybe we could try calling and see if they’ll restart?

        • LOL I tried chatting and they said I've already had 2 years free. They won't give me another.

  • +1

Make sure you go to "My NRMA > My email subscriptions" got to "Member benefits" and select "I want to subscribe to all Member benefits".

    Also please note:
"Can I cancel my monthly payment at any time?"
Unfortunately not. Part of being a mutual organisation means that NRMA Membership is a minimum 12 month contract. But the benefits are that all profits go back to you, the Members. If you do decide to cancel your Membership, you'll need to pay for the remainder of your current term.

Got it too, thanks OP for the alert.

  • Thanks got it after ignoring their calls

  • Got it too

  • Got this as well. I was able to use the bonus 10cpl fuel discount while it was expired

    • How? Did you scan the QR code? Can you still use it now?

      • I think it was targeted offer if it shows up on your app. But somehow the bonus was in my account when my account was expired.

  • +1

I was at a restaurant in this a few days ago and they weren’t aware that offers could be redeemed daily. They were shocked and didn’t even know they were in the scheme. They are in Entertainment Book and they thought it was the same. I wonder if there were more like them.

Got the same, TBH I wont pay $60 but happy to get a free membership

  • +1

Got the email too. Ignored all their calls and emails re renewal. Glad to see we all think alike :-)

  • Got same email. Might have to actually look at using it

  • +1

Yeah, I got this too. Like the OP, I didn't use my membership much (possibly at all). Screw paying $60 for something I don't use.

  • I've never used this membership, but also received the above email for a free extension. Maybe they realised we're all OzBargainers and would never pay to use their service and aren't really utilising the benefits either. The plus for them is inflated membership numbers :P

  • yeah I got it too lol, looks like ignoring the emails to renew worked out

  • Thanks, I got it too

  • Ditto

  • Got it as well, good little membership if you stay at NRMA parks, good discount during off peak times

  • Mine was renewed today as well. :)

  • …. and I just renewed it a few weeks back…

  • Received an email today said I got one year renewed, but it ends in next Jan.

  • Got the same too for a membership that I never bothered to use. >_<

  • Same, auto applies on the account.

  • same here!

  • I didn't realise that by having roadside assistance, you get NRMA Blue included but I was also subscribed to Blue separately! Of course NRMA never brought this to my attention. F***ing con artists!

    Last month I received a call. As I only have a company car atm and don't use the benefits I was going to let it lapse;

"I'm calling about your expired NRMA blue membership"
"what's the lowest you can do"
"How about $10 for the year"
    "Sounds good"

  • LOL … ignored their call .. now the apps showing membership valid until 8 Jan 2024 … woot !

have throw the physical card … lucky it's in the app

  • Got an email. They extended it by another 12 months. Wahooo!

  • I wish RACQ also has this sort of service!

When does NRMA come to QLD?????? Cmon!!!

    • You can probably get a free NRMA membership as well. In fact its benefits are somehow better than RACQ even in QLD.

      • Thanks mate, I’ve tried to register for NRMA but it wouldn’t let me somehow. Maybe I never found the right link for it…

  • is it good like aami or budget direct ?

    • It's not road side assist

      • It's also not insurance.

        • then what is it and why so many people have it ?

          • +1

@ChipsChicky: LOL think of it like Entertainment Book. NRMA are selling the perks package separately instead of only giving it as a benefit to their roadside assistance customers.

  • You got lucky. I have just renewed my overdue membership after NRMA sent a few emails of notice, still paid $60 and back-dated to the due date. No special treat.

  • +2

Just clicked on their old email from 2022 and reactivated my membership…at no cost to me.Thanks for sharing.

Suprised 3rd year in a row, loving the 4% on woolies gift cards :)

    • Good to know what to do for next year!

  • I signed up to an energy provider, they went bankrupt before connecting me. Part of the contract was a free year of NRMA membership, which got renewed for a second year, I don’t even own a car, Nor did I ask for the NRMA Membership. It’s like a spam company now that sells overpriced batteries.

love the 2-4-1 Gelatissamo ice cream deal. I have saved heaps as the staff never ask to click the Redeem button

    • Do they ask you to click it? And if so how would they know if you did?

      • +1

they never ask to click on it. I have also used at my local pup for 20% off and they have asked me to click redeem and then ask for the code. Once redeems unable to use again

        • +1

Even if you click the redeem button every day it should still work at the same place. Always has for me.

  • No email for me. Mine expired 1-Mar-2023 and is still expired. Will keep waiting, maybe it needs to be expired for a few months first.
