SodaKing CO2 Gas Refill Swap $14.70 (Reg $21) in-Store/ C&C @ Spotlight

150

Technically part of this 3-day deal but I feel like it warrants its own post as it might not be intuitive to think of SodaKing when we think about craft shop Spotlight.

Added: Use code SM56RRTS for Save $20 off $50 spend for even better value ($9.70ea). According to comments, if you order online, they don't ask you to return empty cylinders.

  • can they refill sodastream bottles?

    • +1

IIRC they don't refill, they swap. So unlikely.

      • True, but their ad does say SodaKING Refill Gas Only White 60 L, so: fair question (or false advertising?).

    • They turned me away with the blue SodaStream bottle before (even though we all know it's just the label that's different). Woolworths/Dan Murphy/Coles are best bet (should be regular price of $19) for SodaStream using discounted gift cards + you get some rewards points.

      • More like $oda$tream :(

      • Which Spotlight turned you away?

        • South Melbourne

@oleglap: Aha, thanks. They’re my local.

            • @0jay: Slightly off topic but are there any cheaper offers for swapping genuine SodaStream bottles than the usual $19 at the major stores? The price seems to be controlled by SS. I've tried refilling using home brew bottles but sometimes its easier to swap.

I don’t know the answer to this question but if you’re a massive user there are adapter kits you can get to couple with KegKing and similar cylinders

Technically there are subscription services that may work out cheaper (depending on whether they'll charge you delivery) but that means you are replacing cylinders whether you use up all the gas or not (eg. in winter you might use less than summer). There are some delivery services where you can do it on demand. Most of the non-sodaking/sodastream ones claim to put 450g rather than 400g of gas in.

                Eg:
                https://bubble.delivery/subscriptions/
                https://gasguyz.com.au/
                https://billybubbles.com/

As 0jay said, you can connect bigger cylinders directly to the machine - but that doesn't look as nice on your counter and may not work for small kitchens where every centimeter of space counts:

@oleglap: Thanks. I've actually got the kegland DIY refill set up. Refill adapter and large cylinder. I got about 15 or so refills from it, but then I think the master cylinder actually leaked at the valve, and I haven't been bothered to get it refilled/checked. I also question whether DIY refilling actually damages the Sodastream/Soda King mini tanks after a while, as I had a couple which I suspect were leaking.

                  • @apu: They usually have an anti-refill embedded. The actual Kegkland bottles can be easily refilled.

  • Perfect timing. Mine has just about run out. Thanks OP!

  • Thanks op, I just ran out of gas. Spotlight.. who knew!

I've never once been asked for the replacement cylinder when picking up

    • That is crazy if true. Although what would you do with all these excess cylinders…

      • +2

Stack them next to the newspaper heap, near the mason jar hallway

I have at least 6 empty canisters. Not sure what to do with them, maybe just a freebie on Gumtree :-)

        • +1

I've now got 8 of them for the same reason, but I started swapping them again when I got to this level. I usually still have between 2 and 4 full cylinders left by the time the next sale comes along.

  • They also have SodaKING Classic machine for $59.50
Is it worth buying? The reviews are not so good.

    • Kinda answered your own question there.

Better bet is to get a used sodastream or get the base one on sale

    • They have 40% off a single item promos fairly often if you are a member of their rewards program. So would be slightly cheaper than current 30%.

    • Ours outlasted sodastream machines. But i hang a 6kg cylinder off ours which the pressure can cause havoc with their plastic parts.

Been using a SodaKING Adventurer unit for the last couple years and it has been great so far! Can't speak on the classic model though.

Got 4 for $9.70 each stacking with this.

Thanks, OP (feel free to add the code to the post).

I only ever got SodaKing bottles from Spotlight.

Brilliant! Thanks for that. I've just done the same.

    • I only ever got SodaKing bottles from Spotlight

      … for this very reason.

Just picked up my last order; 4 more cylinders, as usual.

  • NANGS WIT DA BOIZ!
