  • I can't seem to get a shipping cost estimate without creating an account. Not sure if Mods can help with this, e.g. shipping cost to Sydney etc.

    • normal shipping to Adelaide is ~$13. Startrack shipping is around ~$18 or $20, I don't remember

      • Thank you again tienanbich.

So Mwave's standard shipping is the same as Keychron standard shipping.

I assume like other PC stores Mwave uses Auspost for standard shipping and not some dodgy courier (e.g. Aramex/Fastway).

V series are also on sale for just $79!

    • Quite a few are OOS though unfortunately

      Otherwise very good prices

    • Good to know thanks but I think I spent enough time on this post already 😭.

  • +1

Great prices for these excellent boards.

  • I got the Q3 knob at Pax for around the price of this sale, I love the aluminium base. For sub $200 it's an awesome deal.

  • +7

Definitely getting the award for most knobs in a bargain post with this one.

  • Surcharge at mwave as well. Looks like they removed that.

    • Edit: Ok you edited your comment. Lol all good.

  • +1

No RGB light on the actual keys?

    • Keycaps are not shine-through, no.

    • +2

Yes PCB has per key RGB. Sorry it's not something I look for so I forgot to mention it. I will edit in post now.

PCB is south facing though, so the RGB LED will be on the bottom of each key. Legends will not shine through brightly with shine through keycaps. If you just want the RGB light in between the keys that will be perfectly fine.

  • +1

Shame. Just bought the V5 for around the same price as the discounted Q5. Can't complain though, it's a really great keyboard for the cost, I assume the Q5 will be pretty similar. Highly recommend.

  • Wow paid $279 for my Q3

  • +1

I literally just bought a K4 V2 two days ago for full price. Will return at grab a Q5. Thanks OP

    • 👍

      • They're selling out quick, was looking at the red switches a moment ago but they sold out. Went with tactile switches and will probably swap them out later. Amazing price thanks for posting.

        • Yeah I think word already spread of the sale before I posted. All the red linear switch options were gone except for the Q5, and of course zero Q1's lol.
No problem glad you were able to get something you wanted.

  • +1

Bought the Q6 last year- beast of a keyboard. Absolute bargain at this price.

  • +1

ah shit all the ones i would go for are oos

  • Looks like plenty of you smashed the links. I have marked ones that are Out of stock.

Only Blue (Clicky) switch options are left.

  • +1

    No wireless ones :(

  • Are the blue switches any good…looking at grabbing the Q6. thanks

    • +3

Let me try to my best to explain it to someone new.

Red (Linear) = Smooth all the way down till you hit the bottom, all you will feel is the spring.

Brown (Tactile) = there is a rounded bump you have to push through, you will feel that together with the spring.

Blue (Clicky) = Similarly to Brown, there is a point you have to push through but with Blue's it's sharp, imagine a plastic spike pushing it's way through a wire. So almost like a sharp "click". Blue switches are loud with normal typing, you will disturb others around you and won't be able to use it while someone tries to sleep in the same room.

  • ffs the price on the q2 changed when I added it to my cart

    • Pages for the keyboards that show as "notify me"/Out of stock are showing the normal full price. So that might be what's going on, two users added the last one to cart and one of you checked out before the other and it's reverted to normal price but theres a glitch so it's still in your cart.

  • Showing as full price for the grey q3 in cart

    • Pages for the keyboards that show as "notify me"/Out of stock are showing the normal full price. • Yep all Q3 sold out

  • Thanks for the post, been waiting for a sale on the Q3.

Missed out on the brown keys but nabbed the blue. I'll give them a test run and see if I want to swap them out with some other set

  • Just found there were also Q7's left with Blue switches. Did not know this was released already in Australia so I didn't look for it originally. Added to post in bold.

    • I want grey with brown switches :(

    • Cheers. Got one of those. New layout to try!

  • I go between a Q2 and a Rama U80 and tbh the Q2 is an absolute pleasure to type on. Less artisan and posho but honestly its as good as it gets for typing.

    • +1

That's quite the price difference there lol

  • Looks like all OOS now.

  • These are great deals - they're going for less than the barebones versions usually do.

I am very happy with my Q2, however replacing the stock case foam made a huge difference

  • Pardon my ignorance but what's so good about such expensive keyboards

    • They are much better built and sound a lot cleaner than the sub $100 ones

    • I mean what's expensive is different for everyone.
But in terms of keyboards these Q series Mechanical keyboards are considered "premium" like the Logitech MX keys would be considered a premium keyboard and that is similarly priced overall (normally $140 to $200).
They are premium in different ways, but honestly if you paid the same amount for a Keychron Q series and a Logitech MX keys, I would say you would feel like you get more for your money's worth with the Keychron from the weight and amount of aluminum used. But both are for completely different customers (one is heavy, fully mechanical and wired only while the other is wireless, runs off a battery and is lighter and can be carried easily).

One thing you might not be aware of though, is that with the Q/V series Keychrons are customizable in a modular way where any Cherry MX type switch and Keycap set can be purchased/interchanged and is perfectly compatible without any tools or modification. The VIA firmware support also means you can fully customize/program the function of every single key (cheaper non VIA supported keyboards cannot program every key). Many people use this programmability to get around the fact their keyboard is more compact than a full size, but if you set it up in your own way you can have the functionality of a full sized keyboard that only requires an extra key to be held down.
Also don't get confused by the "MX" in "MX keys" that's just Logitech's premium line up naming for their products, it has nothing to do with Cherry MX switches.
Logitech's MX keys keyboard is thin/lighter in weight and wireless but you are stuck with what you get, which is perfectly fine for most of their customers.

      • I have a Keychron K6 Pro and later got the Logitech MX mini, mostly use the MX these days due to lack of shine-through on the K6 keycaps.

But the feel of the K6 is way better.

  • Whats the appeal of this type of keyboard? I've never had one like this so I don't get it. With so many models they must have a big audience or reason to exist right?

    • +2

Honestly it's really just a luxury. Nothing you can't do on a cheap budget keyboard. Biggest difference is that the feel and sound are much nicer. Nice to be want to have a larger range of sizes, although the ultra small trendy keyboards are sometimes a little silly.

The reason you have so many models is just combinations of sizes (ie which keys do you want to give up to make the keyboard smaller), a few different switch keys, and there are 3 different series from keychron. Keychron is pretty great and reliable for the price.

      • +1

Thanks for the reply! It's pretty interesting.

        • No problems. Thought it was a little silly at first and then bought a mech keyboard and it's so much nicer and now I understand. Now I'm that weirdo who goes carrying his keyboard to and from work. Completely a luxury though. I do feel the ergonomics fro a 96 pc / 1800 keyboard (no navigation cluster so a few cm shorter) is much nicer though.

    • Mainly: A premium typing feel and further ability to customize through switches (feel/sound) and keycaps (appearance).

  • almost all OOS but just a question, what the difference between the Q and the K?

    • +1

      K are wireless.

  • Looking at brown Q6, but no stock,

V6 QMK seems a bit cheaper,

what is main the difference apart from the switches, and does that makes a lot of difference in terms of quality/experience?

    • I believe V version is plastic base, while Q is aluminium body base

  • Are there any physical stores in Melbourne where you can try a whole bunch of keyboards/switches, including non-mechanical ones?

I'd love to have a nice little 65% board but there are so many brands and combinations of switches, key caps, etc that I'd need to try a few to find the one I like. Don't wanna order blindly.

Got a full size Corsair K70 RGB (don't remember the switch type but they feel linear) but find the key height/travel distance too much. Make heaps of typos. I find I type better on a flat laptop keyboard.

As an alternative to mechanical keyboards, are there custom 65% membrane keyboards out there?

    • are there custom 65% membrane keyboards out there?

No, there wouldn't really be anything to customise besides aesthetics

      • +1

        Fair enough!

        • There are other types of rubber dome keyboards though. Topre being one type that has a niche but passionate following, although they're very expensive. Is there any reason for wanting membrane though?

          • @Noctuafanboy: Thanks for the tip. I guess I assumed all mechanical keyboards have tall keys and a long travel distance. I'd love to try out a few combinations though before buying, which is why a brick and mortar store with a decent selection would be great.

  • I'm a noob here. Can you tell me why are they so expensive and too many varieties? Why Q2 is more expensive than the Q4? I'm in the market for a tenkeyless keyboard.

    • size?

      • have no clue, but I think 70% is ok. Need something that is not too compact as I have clumsy fingers, but not too big or too long.

    • its got 5% more keys i.e more keycaps and switches + design overheads and machining.

    • +1

I'm in the market for a tenkeyless keyboard.

Tenkeyless keyboard model is the Q3.

  • Print on keys on my keychron started wearing off after a week. I use it for work, so ~6 hours a day or so of typing, but pretty poor IMO. I won't buy another one.

    • +1

Print on keys on my keychron started wearing off after a week.

That's not possible with double shot PBT keycaps that are included with the Q series and V series.
With double shot the legends are part of the plastic mould so you can't wear them off.
And looks like Keychron started adding double shot PBT keycaps to their cheaper K series keyboards as well. At least they have done it for the K2 back in 2020.
      https://www.keychron.com/blogs/news/we-just-added-doubleshot…

Most likely you have a different older model. Or maybe yours is a low profile model.

  • Q4 in Black and Q7 in Grey, both with Blue (Clicky) switches are still available.

  • Also PSA. I can confirm Q6 does not work with a coiled cable. The same might be the case for the Q5. Large PCB's consume more power and require a USB3.0 spec cable and all coiled keyboards cables are USB2.0 spec. I could not even find someone who makes custom USB3.0 coiled cables.
The Q6's included braided straight cable is USB3.0 spec and works just fine.
(And I tested with RGB off, coiled cable still cannot provide enough power to Q6)

    • I'm using my Q5 with a usb2 coiled cable with no issue.

      • Ok thanks. Must be only the Q6 then 😭.
I only have 1 coiled cable, but I also tried with a friend's coiled cable and same result. Intermittent connection on the Q6 (keeps cutting out and back in over and over).
With the included straight cable it's completely fine, and I also tried another USB-C to USB-A 3.0 cable it's completely fine.

  • Has anyone's shipped yet? 48hrs seems like a long turnaround just to post something.

    • Going by nearly every single link being sold out now (only Q4 is available), they are probably back logged in processing shipment.

Processing payment and order is almost instant and automatic. But since they are all being posted to different addresses they are probably doing their best to process and get them sent out. Maybe in batches based on location etc (and this is on top of all other orders for other products).

    • I just received my goods were dispatched email now.

      • Just an update goods received today

  • Well I had my order cancelled with no explanation or an email. Way to go mwave!

    • 😐 That sucks. Maybe a stock number error (pretty common with all stores). Maybe they realized they had more orders than keyboards.

  • Q4 in Black with Blue switches (the only one left in stock) is finally all gone. Marked deal as Out of stock.

  • damn, i just bought a q5 for full price thinking it rarely goes on sale.. missed this by a bit

    • You are nearly a week too late.
