  • I don't know these ones, but I love Beyerdynamic headphones

  • This is a pretty good deal. ~30% off a set of Beyerdynamics is very good value

For DT880 you need a AMP.

  • As above you need some sort of AMP to be able to use these bad boys properly.

Can't comment on the price but I do love me some Beyer, too bad my DT250's are in for repair (under warranty)

  • The Beyerdynamic DT990 250ohm Premium's were selling on Amazon not long ago for around $270 delivered. I'd keep an eye on Amazon for when they have their next promotion.

  • As these really need a AMP, a good alternative unamped are the Sennheiser HD598's, If you can not afford a AMP but still want good headphones that is.

    • Any suggestion on where to get the 598's?

    • Disagree, not on the same level. You get allot less for the same money… Perhaps DT250 80ohm would be better, or (for less money) the Shure 840/940.

  • Definitely need an amp with the 250 ohm. A good sound card should be able to drive these babies properly. But a combination of a dac and an amp would really drive these to its full potential.

I have these, you don't NEED an amp. An amp helps but is not absolutely necessary. They run fine on both my Galaxy S3 and Essence STX card. They are PHEN-FREAKING-OMINAL headphones. They are super comfy and they sound is orgasmic. You will probably not find better headphones no matter how much more you spend. There is a great review here:

He even prefers them over the $1500 HD800s, and the DT990 (which actually are a cheaper headphone, hence they are cheaper on Amazon).

I literally cannot recommend these enough. You won't be disappointed. PCCG are obviously a great people to deal with as well.

Soooo tempting, especially since I too have an SGSIII and Essence STX card, so I know we share a good taste in gear. :P

    • An amp would drive thses to its full potential.

    • Ken Rockwell is a retard and anyone that quotes him as an argument automatically loses.

You need to amp all the dt880s, even the 32 ohm. If you think they sound 'prenfreakinonimal' out of your soundcard, you are kidding yourself.

That said, they are excellent headphones. But the 600 ohm version is better in almost every way.

  • damn it why do i have to be broke……. great deal for DT880s though……

    • don't worry this is a good local price but can be got for about the same on eBay (US seller with 12,000+ feedback) or just a bit more at chemicalrecords.co.uk at anytime. That knowledge is the only thing that stops me pulling the trigger right now. Great find though OP :)

  • Can't comment about the sound quality of the DT880 Pro, but excellent local pricing. What I do know is that the DT990 Pro (with brighter highs and stronger bass) sounds amazing to my ears after proper break-in (tones down sharpness of high notes), and can be had for ~$205 delivered from Amazon UK.

Perhaps I'm not the biggest audiophile after the most analytical/neutral sound. But can confidently say that "most" people upgrading from Apple earbuds or even higher end earphones would be blown away by the sound (even when un-amped), and not be missing what that extra ~$100 for the DT880 could buy in terms of sound quality/neutrality. But I suppose what constitute "value" is different from person to person.
