Bed Sheets, What Do You Use?

Hi guys,
I need to buy queen sized sheets,
Looking for reccomedations,
There's too much about Thread count, bamboo? Etc.
Been having ads for plenty of bedsheets on Facebook but I don't trust them at all,
Happy to spend the extra $$$ for quality,
Thanks
Morgan

Thanks mate I'll have a look

      • As always, buy them only when they are on sale.

  • +6

100% Bamboo fibre all the way!

    • +17

Aside from the fact most marketed bamboo fibre is not actually bamboo (chemically treated cellulose or rayon beyond all recognition) and not good for the environment at all.

      • +7

Perhaps but they are darn comfy if u ask me.
If you get it from a reputable brand then I don't see the issue. Cotton isn't exactly great either and has its cons too

        • +1

Cotton uses a lot of water and pesticides, it isn't great for the environment.

Rayon/viscose ("Bamboo") manufacturing is so toxic that it is only really made now in countries with loose environmental laws. Western factories closed down because they couldn't meet air and water quality requirements.

        • Yeah I get mine from Ettitude, when they're on sale of course.

    • +1

      Bamboo doesn’t breathe well.

  • +17

No less than 600tc and has to be 100% cotton (or bamboo).

The Target sheets are my go to.

    • +2

Yeah I invested in linen sheets a little while ago and have ended up coming back round to cotton. Linen might be alright for a duvet cover but I much prefer cotton for the fitted sheet.

    • +4

and not more than 800TC lol
ie 1000TC doesn't mean they are any better.

      • +2

        100%..

The point of diminishing returns is above 600 - 800TC. In my experience, anything over 800 is far worse than a 300TC. They pill and don't wear well.

The 600 - 800 TC mark is where it's at (for cotton at least).

        • Not necessarily true.

I agree some cheap 1000TC aren’t very good, but the better ones are great and don’t pill

          • @JimB: Perhaps, but I'm not one to skimp on bed linen - I've not had a 1000TC that's felt better than a 700TC.

I may have been cursed with poor choices - I'm willing to be converted.

            • @iDroid: What 1000TC sheets have you purchased?

At the same price, say under $100, I’d say the 600-700TC than you would better than 1000TC.

Up the budget to $150-200, I’ve had really good experience with Sheridan, Adairs and Canningvale.

Those from Harris Scarfe, not so much.

          • +1

            @JimB:

High thread count isn’t necessarily better. Generally, a high thread count means a finer weave. But it’s a common misconception that a high thread count guarantees quality. It’s only one part of the formulation.
It’s more important to look at the quality of the thread, the quality and size of the yarn fibres, and the way the sheet is finished.
Lower thread count means softer, good against the skin.

I didn't came up with this shit, its from google/Sheridan website.

    • Got a link? Target have more sheets listed online that I have undies

  • +4

    Definitely cotton made not silk.

  • +2

heritage or something like that - from pillow talk.

  • +8

I like the Ikea ones personally. I'm much too single to care about having nice sheets

    • the nattjasmin ones are amazing

  • +13

The most expensive options from Sheridan are the best. Wait for 40% off sales, pay using discounted gift cards and stack with CashRewards or ShopBack.

    • +4

      +1 Sheridan

    • Yes, they are worth it

    • I do this. So does the partner. Close to $1k for a set but amazing.

Ignore all those new online sheet/mattress/whatever companies.

    • Sheridan outlet has frequent disc. I got king set 1000tc for $220 at castle hill oultet, which was cheaper than their online outlet.

      • +2

Some of the outlet products are not the same quality and I think are from a different production line

        • +1

The one I bought (hotel luxury) was actually non-outlet product line. Sometimes you can find it at outlet like I did.

      • +6

Outlet is not the same quality. They make that stuff specifically for the outlet.

      • +1

Sheridan outlet is the biggest scam going personally

Yes they do have clearance of the more expensive stuff (garish colours and end of line) but the majority of the stuff there is purposely made to a lawer quality than the stuff youll see in david jones etc.

Like their sheet sets start at 250/300tc, no amount of branding will make that feel like a $300 sheet

        • Lawyer quality?

  • +10

none my wife steals them in 5 minutes

    • +8

Same. And you can't even tell her it gives you the sheets

    • Don't have that issue yet

  • +2

Plebs can use Baboo. I sleep on Versace

    • Thanks I'll have a look

      • What about Louis Vitton?

    • -2

Is that the only high end brand you know about?

      • -1

Are you calling Versace high end?

        • Let's be honest you don't have anything over five items in your closet from lvmh group let alone just versace so say less.

      • +1

Why are you assuming they only know Versace just because they linked to it in this instance?

        • -4

why am I assuming? cause I can.

  • +1

    What is a bed sheet?

    • +4

      Societal standards or something

  • +2

    100% cotton

    • +8

      agree, but flannelette in winter
      .

      • For some reason flannelette makes me itchy.

      • Nooo… Cuddles in winter.

    • And stay in the 600 - 800 thread count, don't go higher, they're worse.

  • +2

    I'm happy with Koala

  • +2

Don't you mean seat covers for your car?

    • +2

Decided against living in the car, glad I'm did though

    • No whites - can't use them.

  • +1

    The Skin of…. me.

    • +1

Glad you are using your own

  • +1

    Fitted sheets and white only.
If getting the whole sheet set, I use the flat sheet as my blanket in Summer.

  • +4

100% cotton and a reasonable TC. Do not go for the cotton rich blend

    • Why's that?
      600tc?

      • +3

Cotton rich has a large amount of polyester in it - doesn't breathe and feels scratchy.

No better than normal polyester sheets tbh.

        • +1

Absolutely. The cotton ones feel much better.

      • +1

The cotton rich ones don’t feel so nice to sleep on. I would go to somewhere like Spotlight and open the edge of a few sheet packets and touch the sheets. It will give you an idea what you like the feel of. I’ve got one sheet set that is 1200 TC pure cotton; it is really nice, but it is heavy to dry.

You could go to the DFOs, if you have them in QLD, and see what they have in the outlet stores. In Victoria they are having a discount weekend at the DFOs.

      • Cotton rich = marketing speak for not really cotton.
The pomace olive oil of sheets.

      • Yeah, 600 - 800 but not more. Going higher is usually worse (in my experience)

  • +1

canningvale cotton sheets are good, but their bamboo sheets run thin
I've seen people say spotlight microfibre sheets are good and cheap - it's on my to try list

half yearly sales are coming up so if you can hold off for a couple months, you might be able to get a deal

    • Thanks mate, I'll keep that in mind

    • +3

I hate microfibre sheets. I also avoid the poly/cotton blends and go for 100% cotton.

    • +1

I bought a cheap microfibre set from Spotlight, they were nice and soft but started pilling after a handful of washes.

      • ahh i see - i guess that's the catch
cotton and good bamboo sheets is the way to go then

  • +4

Target does a deep fitted sheet which has been so good. No more fighting to pull the sheet over the sizes of my bed.

    • Thanks I'll have a look

    • +2

target's newer range of sheets is awesome. pricey for target, but awesome

      • Thirded. 100% cotton sheets from Target have been great. Were around $80/set. Sometimes on special

  • +4

    Whatever your Mrs has sorted.

    • +10

      What Mrs do you use?

  • +1

Get the evening brand, reclaim your name in the morning.

  • +3

have tried a few and just from my personal experience best overall in terms of value for money/quality/durability/softness …that I have found so far.. ( tried Sheridan, milky sheets 100% bamboo, Kmart sheets) is Adairs worlds softest sheets 500TC, 100% pima cotton

    https://www.adairs.com.au/bedroom/sheets/worlds-softest-cott…

    • +2

      Agreed, we use Adairs too.

    • Thanks I'll have a look :)

  • +1

Blessed Earth Magnificent sheet set. They are the best I've ever had. Heavier old school cotton but somehow cooler feeling. Got the feel of sheets that will last 10+ years easy.

  • +1

I went to sheridan I think or maybe it was adairs? And they have pieces you can feel, I'd probably say worth a check if you just want to know exactly what you're getting.
FWIW though I found target to be better then i expected, but i bought bamboo sheets online and OMG they're so soft. I bought it for the spare room too an whoever in my family that has come to visit have all said the same thing, they're shocked they're so soft. So I'm a bamboo convert now. Just need to wash them at least twice.

    • I'll have a look today thanks

  • +1

I like the Hugo Boss ones

  • Do not waste your money on anything else.

    Just get this: https://www.allergend.com.au/allergend-plus/
And add your own linen on top from a decent brand from David Jones.

Australian made, feels like a cloud, extremely high quality that will last 10 years (trust me, mine are still going after 13 years).

  • +1

Got three different colour king-size sheet sets from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/747266

Love 'em so far and have not used my older more expensive sheet sets since.

  • +1

    Bed Threads

  • +1

I got mine from Hotel at Home and they’re the best quality sheets I’ve ever owned

  • +2

Linen sheets. From Bed Threads and Sheet Society.

  • +1

Linen all the way. If you don't mind the extra $$$ then definitely worth it. Flannelette in winter if your climate suits.

Don't be fooled by top brands though, quite often the lesser known brands are just as good and come out of the same factory.

I Love Linen is an online retailer with good quality. We've had their stuff for a couple of years and its as good as the branded stuff.

  • -5

    The tears of Greens voters.

    • +1

      How do you wash it

    • +1

You'll get a better deal on the right-wing version… Just suggest the slightest bit of societial progress and there will be plenty of tears

      • Actually with the tiara set it is more likely to be tantrums.

  • +1

    We have these
    https://www.sleepsolutions.com.au/bambi-tencel-sheet-set-ran…
They keep you super cool, are soft, then they also keep you warm when needed.

    Expensive but worth it
