Google Nest Camera (Battery) for $219 delivered.

Can get price beat from Officeworks for $208.05 delivered.

Some aren't happy with the recording storage but this is the best deal I've found on this model.

Free replacement if it's stolen from your property after you've set it up correctly.

Not my first post, so don't be gentle

First time seen someone asking for it here Lol.

    • +4

      I'm expecting rough love

      • +2

        like getting hammered?

        • Name checks out, knocks how to beat things

    • +1

      That's a paddlin'

    • You've had enough of two-hand touch
You want it rough, you're out of bounds

  • Oh hey nice price. And good to see they've extended the replacement to include Oz now. When I read about it ages ago it was US only.

As a side note, $6 delivery for Metro Melb. The description mentions the price delivered, which would vary.

  • Just wondering, what do you mean by "after you've set it up correctly" for the replacement warranty? Is there something specific you need to sign up for or something?

    • +4

what do you mean by "after you've set it up correctly" for the replacement warranty?

The wall plate the camera clips into contains a locking mechanism which means you can't (or shouldn't be) able to rip it off the wall and walk away with it.

You need to insert a tool (really, just a piece of metal like a paperclip) to unlock it and detach the camera from the wall. This makes it less likely for kids to just steal it off the wall for shits and giggles, and actually requires them to plan the theft out a bit more, which reduces the likelihood it's stolen.

So by 'correctly', it means that you've locked it in place correctly.

  • Can this be also used as a security camera? What I mean is whether the video recording is on all the time or only when the door bell is pressed? TIA

    • +2

The recordings and alerts are motion activated; a doorbell press isn't required. You can define activation zones and what types of things to detect.

But you only get 3 hours of history retention without paying for a subscription. (Source : Google Nest Help)

    • +1

I believe you have basic motion and zone detection to setup in the app that'll record to events (3 hours max footage without subscription). I wouldn't really depend on it as a security camera though, being battery powered and all (unless you wire it to your old chime)

That and if you look at the camera specs, it's not really designed for anything else besides fairly close-up.

    • +1

If its a narrow path in front of the camera i.e a walkway or path then yes, motion sensors pick up everything and can differentiate between person, package and “others”. The higher sensitivity you set it at, the less days between each charge. If youve a wide frontage id suggest set it to low and get a wifi cam to complement.

  • Just bought one yesterday from JB, it's fantastic

  • Waiting for the wired version to be launched here. Could be a long wait.

    • +1

This one can still be wired though

    • +2

There is an “adapter” in the box to make it a wired version. That said, the US version runs on 2.4 and 5ghz network whilst we only get the 2.4ghz model here in oz, sadly.

      • The specs on the Google Store (AU) seem to suggest dual-band 11n though (With… WPA3 support?). I wonder what's up with that. (Although that's not the greatest either tbh, I think that's probably 150 or 300mbit max physical bitrate from a device of this design)

    • +1

Me too. Waiting for the Gen 2 wired version.
Hopefully the price discount means it's coming soon. And also with Matter compatibility.

In a blackout, the battery version should continue if people want security camera feature.
Read somewhere that people struggled with using 18V adaptors to power the battery version, but battery wasn't charging

  • reading into it, so its like Ring where you need a sub to keep recordings? Can anyone clarify?

    • Its a stand alone device mate. Thats all you need and a google nest/mini as a base. Minis go on sale for $17 sometimes.

  • +3

I have this and you really do need the sub. The free version only keeps thumbnails for 24 hours. It's useless without being able to look back and review your video history.

    • +1

You get notifications on your mobile and if its someone sus showing up, you can just save the footage and thats it. Plus everyone that you have under your google home will be notified

      • +1

True. But when you're asleep and there's activity outside your front door… it doesn't seem to keep a video history. At least it didn't for me.

        • It keeps three hours of recordings. So if u go to bed and someone bells at midnight at get up at noon ull not see it anymore lol

  • Got cheap google one storage through turkey - does video footage get stored on your accounts cloud storage?

    • It does not, unfortunately. I can save a clip on my phone and upload it though… I've only ever used that for when I've left the house and ripped a fat one and wanted to save it and send to my brothers

  • Does anyone know if Super cheap Sell this I have a 150 voucher.

Also anyone know if a new improved model of this battery type is it AA or AAA is it coming out soon or should I wait for this one when the new one comes out?

  • +2

Just to note for potential buyers, I just set this up recently
When someone presses the bell and you're not home, it doesn't ring your phone (like a phone call)
It just pops up a notification that someone has pressed the bell, which you can easily miss.

Some competing brands (e.g. Arlo) would ring your phone like a phone call which you can choose to accept or dismiss.

    • +1

This is true, but god damn I wish they would add it. Surely not that hard to do

      • Yeah it doesnt call your phone thats right. Ive found it on so far maybe youve too many apps giving you notifications lol

        • I've had the doorbell for probably a year now and I think I've only missed the doorbell maybe one time. Maybe I'm on my phone too often

          • @mojadu: Same here - never missed a notification but I also have an Apple Watch - works seamlessly

  • +1

I checked with Google support through chat and they mentioned that the replacement warranty is only for those who buy it from Google store not from other retailers in Australia. It doesn't make sense. Can anyone confirm this?

we can buy it for $208 from OW but Google store sell it for $247. if the replacement warranty only works if we buy it from google store then might buy it through google store by spending $40 more..

  • What, no black one? Annoying.

  • B4 my first coffee…I thought it was saying $200 for the battery!

  • +1

I picked one up via CC. On their website, you may get a $20 off your first order targeted message for new customers. Works out to be $199. If you already have an account with them, sign up with a new email address.
