      • It's capped at 5 per membership per day so there should be plenty on shelves

    • That is a safe assumption.

I scanned a $400 Vanilla Visa gift card during a previous 10% off Vanilla Visa gift card deal, and it showed up as full price.

      • Thanks for confirming. Thought of trying $400, but somehow distracted and forgot about it, only remembered hours later.

  • Do they have monthly maintenance fee?

    • +1

      no

    • +3

The Vanilla Visa gift cards sold through this deal do not come with any monthly maintenance fees.

There are Vanilla Visa gift cards that have monthly maintenance fees, but the only type of Vanilla Visa gift cards that have them are ones with an expiry date of before August 2023. It is impossible to purchase such gift cards at Coles, because the checkout system will not let you purchase a gift card with less than three years expiry. Less scrupulous retailers (e.g. The Reject Shop) will happily sell you a Vanilla Visa gift card with less than three years expiry, which is probably how you get recent reviews with people complaining about how their recently purchased Vanilla Visa gift card randomly started having fees deducted from its balance.1

Monthly maintenance fees are actually illegal for gift cards sold from 01 November 2019, so if you were charged monthly maintenance fees for a Vanilla Visa gift card through this deal for some strange reason, you could always complain to AFCA and force Heritage Bank to remediate the situation…

As an aside, if you log into the Vanilla Visa gift card balance portal to check the balance of a gift card with an expiry date from August 2023 onwards, it will say once you logged in No Fees, which refers to the fact that the type of gift card you have is the one that does not charge monthly maintenance fees.

      1. I’m not sure whether Target - another retailer selling Vanilla Visa gift cards - does the same checks as Coles, but considering the number of Vanilla Visa gift cards I spotted at a Target store late last year with short expiry dates, I doubt it…

  • I don't know if this card can buy an Apple gift card with a 15% discount.

    • +1

Apple gift card offer expires today

  • most staff in western sydney will hide cards tonight and tomorrow morning they will either say "stock hasn't arrived" or "not in stock"… lol :D :D :D

best to go to wealth northern suburbs of Sydney….. ! as there won't be any left in western sydney or lakemba or auburn or fairfield or parramatta… ! :D

    • This is not true. According to the last few rounds, there'll be new deliveries for 10% off promotion, but no restock for flybuys pts promotion. Hence, the state restriction applies to ensure stock level.

      • -1

not once but everyone here says that staff hide cards for themselves and friends and i would do it if i was working for coles … and why not ? nothing wrong in getting something after standing on feet for 10 hr shift or 4hr whatever you do there .. !

the issue is that coles or mastercard or visa knows that this deals sells very fast and creates massive cashflow for them at cheap rates (compare to commercial loan rates) so they should be doing it for high value cards not $250 but instead start offering $5000 card with a name of annual grocery gift card … !!!

    • Go more west then simple.

    • +1

I went to one store where the manager makes the staff take them all off the shelf. He doesn't like people getting a deal. If you happen to find one you'll get the 3rd degree about where you got it from.

      • Let me name the store I have been in last deal.it was Stanhope Garden Coles where an Asian lady watch you all the time you scan cards (even though there are other customers she just stare at those with this gift card) and she even told me that I already bought in the morning so I am not allow to buy again (when I went there first time)… …then I ask her to call manager and show me the bloody proof and then she moved on to another customer…!

That's why best to go north Sydney rich suburbs….where staff don't hide cards for their entire family and friends and cousins….. !

        • -1

Yep. Checked again today in a wealthy suburb and they still have racks of $250 cards

But have a backup of 10 cards just incase

      • "you'll get the 3rd degree about where you got it from"

        What's that mean?

        • +1

          Interrogation.

  • +1

Its very simple when there is a license to print $$$$$$$$$$$ . Inside activity will thrive .

    • that's what happen on stock market right ? …. ! so many dodgy transactions but ASIC sleeps like dog .. !!

  • Is there any way I can price match this deal in WA?

    • -3

lol … you can but you need to have median housing price $1,400,000 in Perth … ! This deal is only for those with high cost of living not those living in houses under 500k .. !

    • +1

      I don’t like your chances.

I don’t think Coles staff can actually override the price of a gift card in the Coles checkout system (which makes sense, when you think about it, because the last thing you want is staff members fraudulently purchasing gift cards for themselves or their mates).

Staff may be able to use those weird $2 coupons that are kept at the service desk to force the checkout to lower the price of a gift card, but good luck finding a staff member (or more realistically, a store manager or duty manager or service supervisor) willing to price match for you.

Target and The Reject Shop - the only other retailers I know of that currently sell Vanilla Visa gift cards, at least on this side of Australia - do not have price match policies that cover gift cards.

    • +1

It's your time for this week.

  • -1

It doesn’t mean everyone lives in median house prices in Perth. We do have houses that cost millions of dollars. That just shows how your brain cells are infected by your bias.
Oh did i tell you with your median house prices in Sydney you can buy a mansion just 5 minutes drive to beach in Perth.
Please don’t be distracted. It is rush hour in Sydney now. Lots of traffic

    • -2

Don't take my comments wrongly, I am actually looking to sell in Sydney and move to Perth due to dirt cheap housing prices ( not talking about western beach side suburb close to city) and other advantages you mentioned about traffic…! Perth has affordable houses together with best transport and close.proximity to Asia which is a plus point. The only drawback is that it's separate country within country and far from major cities with Australia for my personal circumstances.

In reality Australia should plan to develop to have capital city between Perth and Adelaide (similar to Canberra) and allow new migrants to settle there instead of Sydney and Melbourne….(population growth requires all types of community)

On the other note it is fact thatSydney housing prices are killing and moron wants to hold interest rates…!

  • Can the 10% discount be stacked with staff discount??

    • +1

If you have it, no harm to scan it. No further discount was applied last time I did. Actually, the team member number did not even appear on the receipt (as if it hadn't been scanned).

      • lol not sure if you're trolling me. I tried and the staff member gave me a dark face saying "Staff members are not allowed to buy gift cards"

        • At the self serve, just scan it like a flybuys.

          • @Neoika: you need to buy the giftcards at the counter at my coles, they are not on the shelves

            • @Homr: OK, it is just the particular store's policy.

    • I tested it again today. It didn't apply further discount with some groceries as I suggested to do with the CBA deal. It only applied to the groceries portion.

  • +2

I just witnessed a lady and two men each grabbed STACKS of $250 and $100 of these and put in it their bags… they went to counter and only scanned 5 each and took the rest home.

    • Thief?

    • Stealing details and probably leaving them at stores.

    • If you don’t scan them, the cards won’t be activated though

    • Did you get a description of their appearance. ie. red sweater, black hair and glasses.

      • +1

Tall dark, bit shady, bright red lipstick and Havianna flip flops.

        • I saw this person as well. What nationality ?

    • Probably taking them now so that they can then take back 10 each day for the next week and purchase them then.

      • I might have saw that dude

There was a guy infront of me who just gave 5 cards to the Counter for operator to process

Operator: How did you get these cards?
        Guy: Off the shelf
Operator: Impossible, these cards are only available at the counter

The guy shrugged his shoulders and the operator reluctantly processed the cards. She then called her assistant over and said "from now on, we only process cards to customers that take directly from counter"

        • +1

that's dodgy policy… the store should put all the card behind counter a week before scheme is announced and then only they could do.

          • +3

@SydBoy: not dodgy policy, just dodgy people

  • If you cannot find them on the shelf, ask the service counter. The staff member checked the back office (not behind the gift cards) and they had 3 boxes of them.

  • Just bought 5. Looks like there will be stock with this flybuy capping.

  • Just bought 5*250 at North Sydney. None on the shelves but just ask at the front desk.

  • +1

    Loads of stock Winston hills.

  • In ACT Coles Manuka is hopeless as usual. No stock at 7am? 😒 WTF

    • Was one left when I went and heeps of $100 at 11am

      • Yep, heaps of $100 but $250 nada. Asked service desk and the lady there said they have one box left but couldn't find it lol. This mob has no idea how to run a store.

        • unobtainable deal at Coles Manuka. Time to lodge a complaint to Access Canberra.

  • +3

Definitely a hard limit of 5 per flybuys account.

Cashier said she can only do 3 at a time. Asked if I could grab a 6th card for the second transaction to which she said yes.

First lot of 3 went through as expected.

Second lot, the 6th card came up on the POS as full price.

    • +1

      In the T&C
There is a "Limit of 5 Gift Cards per Flybuys account per day"

So, need to try again tomorrow

      • +2

Yes yes, just confirming the fact for others

      • It is common to have 2+ memberships. Just need to be careful to not pay full price. I don't think it is possible to refund the difference.

  • -1

Gee, anyone finding these can't be used anywhere online? Worked almost everywhere last time the promo was on…

    • No, I just used one online to prepay a bill.

  • My citibank prestige declined, tried twice and did not let me pay, now cannot use the card to buy $4.50 coffee, they may have blocked my card.. what a morning

    • My virgin declined and blocked.

      • So inconvenient, whats the point of giving me a 30k over credit limit but couldn't even use for 1k purchases.

    • Blocked for security reasons??

      • Classified as Out of norm transaction, so better bring a backup card

  • Do these cards have an activation time ?

    • The ones I bought this morning at 8AM were working by the time I got home at 8:30AM.

      • Big thank you. Just used it, successfully, at Telstra.

  • Can these be used via BeemIt to pay bills or has anyone found a way to use these visa cards to pay off a credit card?

  • +1

No more $250 cards at Wynyard coles and World Square. Only $100 cards left

    • Did you ask if they were going to restock?

      • +1

They said they may get some in over the next few days, but couldn't confirm anything

  • Thanks, OP. With 15 cards, saved $273.75. Pre-paid Medical Insurance of $1500, Two Councils of $750 each & one Water account of $750. How much is the actual saving after the opportunity cost at this high-interest rate environment to be ascertained? I used the Australia Post Bill Pay option to use the cards.

    • +1

$3476 yield $173.81 yearly with 5% interest rate, you saved $273.75 from the total transaction, basiclly $100 bucks actual saving with one-off payment , still OK.

BTW You got 3476pts which worth $17.5 flybuys dollar

      • I don't think you can get Flybuys points for buying gift cards.
        Unless they changed the rules

        • +2

You cannot earn standard Flybuys points at Coles when purchasing gift cards issued by Coles Group (e.g. Coles Group & Myer, Officeworks, First Choice Liquor).

You can earn 1x standard Flybuys points at Coles for every $1 you spend on third-party gift cards (i.e. gift cards not issued by Coles Group, which includes the gift cards in this deal).

I have earned standard Flybuys points on all purchases of third-party gift cards at Coles in the last few years (and there have been a lot of purchases over that time, including during last week's Coles Mastercard gift card deal).

          • @WookieMonster: Ah cool, that's a neat little bonus there

          • @WookieMonster: I got no FB points for buying the gift cards? My balance is still showing 0

            • +1

@Homr: Check tomorrow evening. Flybuys usually post 1 day later.

    • how can you buy 15 cards? in multiple transactions?

    • thanks, great idea about health insurance … ! I never thought about it and the payment went through yesterday but I hope those moron accept the payment and not block my payment like what they did last time i tried to purchase gift card using similar prepaid credit card… !

    • With council fees and Sydney Water bills, can we use multiple $250 cards using split payments?

  • 30 x $250 left at one of my locals. No $100 left.

    • +1

      Location pls.

    • +1

me grabbed 3, seems no one in store was interesting on this promo.

  • -1

    Just got 5.

Plenty at store in a wealthy suburb.

  • +1

Is it okay to pay ATO before tax return? (I am sure that I will have a few k overdue after I lodge later the year)

    • I also am wondering this….. I assume they would be fine with you having a credit balance but not sure how they would track it or pay you any interest etc…

      • You can be sure that they would not pay you interest.

        • +1

Seems like its 3.46% from april 1 onwards - taxable income….

          https://www.ato.gov.au/Rates/Credit-interest-rates-and-calcu…

          • @Davelovesdealz: Well, that is amazing. I stand corrected. The rate is not too bad. A good place to park the funds and avoid hacking.

            • +1

@Yola: Not being sure how you would see your 'balance' is my only issue with this….

          • @Davelovesdealz: I don't think it will work :(
For individuals and trusts, interest is payable:
            from the later of
the date of issue on your notice setting out the amount of tax, debt or interest you need to pay,
the date you make the payment.
until and including the payment due date.

  • +1

Make sure to scan the Flybuys so you don't rock up at our customer service desk demanding for a refund for 2500$ worth of gift cards because you paid 2575$ for them

    • Thought the Flybuys card can be scanned after, within 7 days at the same store?

      • Yeah normally but for some reason the discount was not applied
