Ryobi 18V ONE+ HP Brushless Right-Angled Die Grinder - Tool Only Was $149 but it used to be as high as $200. Now $99

Features
4-mode speed control
Variable speed paddle
On-board spindle lock
Brushless motor delivers 22,000 rpm
The RYOBI 18V ONE+ HP Brushless Right-Angled Die Grinder is ideal for metalwork, including car restorations. Using the right accessory (sold separately), you can grind, sand, polish, sharpen or finish metal. This right-angled design fits into tighter spaces that traditional pneumatic die grinders can’t get into.

Harnessing a powerful brushless motor, this Die Grinder delivers a maximum 22,000 rpm. The 4-mode speed control and variable speed paddle provide enhanced control for any job that requires more precision. Switch between attachments with the on-board spindle lock.

The Grinder also features a safety collet to prevent accessories and the nut from coming loose during operation. Add an accessory by pressing the on-board spindle lock and loosening the collet using the supplied wrench. Simply press the spindle lock and loosen the nut to switch between accessories. While you’re working in dark and tight spaces, like under a car, the on-board LED worklight provides increased visibility.

This Right-Angled Die Grinder is part of RYOBI‘s ONE+ HP™ series of tools that utilise advanced technologies, like brushless motors that deliver higher performance, extended battery runtimes and longer motor life. These tools are ideal for tough conditions and meet the rigorous demands of bigger and more complex DIY projects. And yet they still use ONE+ 18V batteries. They also have superior ergonomics for a premium user experience

What's the different with a drill driver?

What's the different with a drill driver?

    • +4

These are way faster than a drill - they run at 22,000rpm according to the specs

    • +2

Die grinders operate at much higher speeds than drills, 22,000rpm in this case. You need that low torque/high speed for this type of grinding rather than the high(er) torque/low(er) speed that you typically get with a drill. It's one of the reasons why die grinders have traditionally been air powered rather than electric.

      • And an impact driver has a higher torque and lower speed than a drill driver?
        Thanks

    • +1

Think of this as a dremel not a drill/driver.

Sigh, would like to have nail gun right now for a home DIY…even ozito is $129 skin.

  • Can anyone recommend any good impact driver deals? Just for occasional DIY stuff at home like fixing furniture and stuff. Preferably brushless.

Also anyone know if there is anything out there like an electric allen key. Or can you use a bit on the impact driver to do that as well? Its a pain fixing ikea or other furniture with that manual key one by one. Thanks !

      ONE+ 18V Cordless 1/4 in. Impact Driver (Tool Only) P235AB https://amzn.asia/d/f2gPIOt

$67 delivered with Prime. Assuming you have Ryobi gear already.

You can use this as an Allen key with the right bit, just be careful with the trigger!

You don't really want an 18V impact driver for ikea furniture. It'll be too powerful. I use a drill driver on low torque settings for ikea furniture.

Its a pain fixing ikea or other furniture

You can't use an impact driver for IKEA furniture ! It'll chew right through the wood in a fraction of a second.

      You just need a screwdriver - https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B08KLPJ5BP/

is anything out there like an electric allen key.

Yep, that's exactly what the screwdriver linked above is 👍 They're absolutely perfect for flat pack furniture.

These things are beasts, well worth the $99 if you’ve already got Ryobi kit. If I don’t need to get into tight spaces I reach for this every time over my Milwaukee M12.

Great test by TTC between the two against some high quality air tools as well:

    • Sold!

    • Great test but you don’t compare the M12 range to any 18v equivalents. That’s just ridiculous, like comparing an x-trail to a hilux.
M12 vs Dremel 82xx or other rotary tools is a better comparison.

    • Only thing is weight. If you are surfacing a decent area, holding up a massive 18v tool + battery gets old pretty fast vs a small 12v tool + battery. eg, I reach for the m12 impact more than the m18 impact these days.

  • So what accessories to I buy to go with this?

    • +1

Anything that uses a round 1/4" shank. Quick trip to the grinding/cut off wheel section in bunnings (or probably any other hardware/tool store) and you'll find plenty of sanding disks, flap disks, grind stones, polishing wheels etc. You can also get collet adaptors for cheap that will allow you to use the 1/8" attachments that are usually used with dremels and smaller rotary tools

  • +1

I bought one of these a few months ago to replace a dead Dremel. Heaps better than the Dremel for what I use it for (grinding/cutting/resurfacing metal where an angle grinder won't fit or is too cumbersome). You can get collet adaptors for $5 that allow you to use all of the 1/4" attachments that are used with smaller rotary tools and Dremels.

    • +1

Thank you for the collet adaptor tip, exactly what I need!

  • What attachments come with it? How much for say the polisher to buff my car?

    • +1

None. And it's too fast for that job, by many times.

      • You can lower the speed according to the video on the device hopefully it can remove small scratches on the car

        • +1

          Absolutely not.

          • @MasterScythe:

            4-mode speed control
            Variable speed paddle

            • +1

@Scrooge McDeal: You don't polish a car at 10'000rpm in a 2inch (max recommended pad size) area.

              • +1

@MasterScythe: I don't think it's suitable for polishing a car. However you can lower speed as it states that it has 4-mode speed control
                Variable speed paddle.

                • +1

@Scrooge McDeal: Well sure, I wasnt commenting on that.

Whoever downvoted my "absolutely not", In response to "hopefully it can remove small scratches on the car"?

I'd LOVE to see a detailing video by you, using this.

                  • +1

@MasterScythe: People read things and watch videos but they are complete donkeys when they interpret what they ‘know’

            • @Scrooge McDeal: If you are advocating someone should use this tool for detailing a cars paint I am going to report you.

Paint removal is the only thing you will be doing

              • -1

@PlaunsJanus: Who is advocating to use this as a detail tool? Read my comments before you say nonsense. And report me to who? 😄

    • +1

haha, you use die grinder to polish your car? it will grind a hole from your car.

      • Actually.
        I might change my answer.

I didnt consider that a hole would technically, and literally, remove the scratch….
