An absolute nightmare to clean! And what a waste of benchtop space! But what a fun novelty gift idea!

    • Thank for your cm. Im about to buy one for my kid.

    • Doesn't it belong in home theater? See third picture.

Honestly, I just buy microwaveable popcorn and be done with it afterwards.

CBF these days going through all this effort.

Setting it up and then cleaning it.

      • I have a similar one, but yeah do the same with microwave bags. I just bought popcorn salt and add it to the microwave bags to get a better flavour

Airpoppers are good, we use the decor oil sprayer to squirt some canola oil one, then sprinkle some salt on, give it a shake. No mess, clean up and popping corn is cheap.

Agreed. I have one similar model; it was a total up-the-creek nightmare to clean. I used it twice and now sitting on a bench in the shed.

Going to grab one of these just in case we get another plastic drinking straw deal.

310w? How long does it take 10 days?
The small ones from kmart are 1200W.

    The kmart/Breville ones are good.

It's a good option to plug into a smaller lithium power generator so you can take it to the movies and have hot fresh pop corn while you watch.

        Now you're talking?

    • Please read the reviews first.

    • The small air poppers are less efficient as they need more power to heat the air which then heats the corn.

This unit does direct transfer of heat to the corn (like the old saucepan method) so it doesn't need as much power as there are less losses.

      • Umm that sounds all wonderful & scientific until you introduce maths.

1200w for say 3min (ours is closer to 2mins), is 60w, or 0.1Kwh at 25c/KwH is 1.5c for about 4lt of popcorn. Even if this did it in that
        Every day for a year that's $5.58/yr.

Lets say this over-priced thing does 300w for the same 3mins (and I doubt it's that quick). That's 1/4 of the running costs or $1.40/yr, saving $4.18/yr.

Assuming the $24 price tag for the Myer one. That's a $55 difference. So it would take you 13yrs to make up the difference.

        Hmmmm

It's amazing how many appliances you need to replace a saucepan.

For what it's worth I'm hoping to try replace all my frying and oven duties with an air fryer.

Finally making the jump just over a decade later ;)

  • best to use a pressure cooker and with the lid on and without the whistle…dishwasher safe and no othe cleaning required…works for me

I got one of these off Gumtree for like $15, and for what it's worth, it is good for me. My wife is a big popcorn eater, so it's used at least once a week. There is minimal cleaning, as it doesn't require any oil to pop the kernels. It's also quite quick and convenient to use, as it stirs automatically. For those wondering about the low power rating it doesn't need nearly as much as an air popper, and it's much quieter as a result.

Overall, it works for us because we have plenty of space AND eat popcorn at least once a week. Don't get it unless you similarly have need of such a pointless unitasker (and also get it for < $20 off Gumtree).

  • Output 2.5oz. 75g. That can't be right can it?

  • When I was looking in to them a couple of years back (height of covid lockdowns and had a craving for movie popcorn) the best electric ones for home use were meant to be the dome shaped stirring ones where the lid ends up being the bowl. They seemed to be cheap as chips in America and didn't seem to exist in Australia. Although looking on ebay it seems like they do sell some here now, but feels hard to justify $75.

  • I have one of those using just hot air to pop the corn but without the oil the salt doesn't stick to it, it all falls on the bottom of the bowl. Does someone have a trick to fix that, excluding pouring butter?

  • The silicon container popcorn maker takes 2mins in the microwave and takes up the space of about two cups in the cupboard. Highly recommend that instead.
