"Up to 24 hour battery life?" sheesh

    • I'm curious to know if it is possible to "un-smart" the watch and kill notifications, Bluetooth, and automatic features, to extend the battery life. In this case, I wonder how many days it would last.

      • +5

Might as well get a dumb watch though if you need to do that.

        • +1

The watch can still do quite a bit without constantly being connected to a phone or constantly monitoring, and used on demand when needed.
I'm not for doing this, but more curious if there is any significant improvement.

You probably could but then what's the point of having a smartwatch?

It's like people who spend $2k on a flagship phone and then turn off all the flagship features to save battery life.

      • +3

        Just get a Ticwatch then.

        • +1

Only if you want no support and Wear OS 2

          • +1

@hotphil: PR0r didnt mention anything about wanting a specific OS or needing support for it. I've got the original Ticwatch Pro and use it for exactly what PR0r mentioned so its fine, and hence my recommendation. The newer versions have more RAM and better CPU's so should do nicely based on what was specified.

          • @hotphil: This. My son has one and although it's great - broken promises about upgrades and no repsonse from support means he'll never buy one again apparently. Which is a shame as it looks pretty good and apparently it does have good battery life and is pretty responsive.

Of course it is, along with turning off a lot of battery draining features, you'd probably get at least 48 hrs id wager. It would defeat the purpose of such a good looking watch to nerf all its abilites. Google doesnt seem to quote any kind of extended battery life with any 'power saving mode' activated.

Better off getting a HUAWEI or AMAZFIT if you want less features but longer Battery life.

    • +1

I'm not entirely sure why this is a big issue.

I charge my phone and watch each night so would never run out of battery anyway

      • +1

If you want sleep tracking though

    • +1

Yep, might have a sleep tracking function, but not much good if battery dies overnight.

Still can't believe accept battery life that short. There's so many better alternatives out there.

I was going to buy a Pixel Watch, I liked that it was a collaboration with (the Google owned) Fitbit, as I had owned a Fitbit and was very happy with it.
But when I heard that people were only getting around 24 hours battery life from the Pixel watch well that was a real killer.
My Fitbit is still going strong and lasts 7 days of battery life.

Battery life isn't the killer for me.

It's how freaking small it is.

Bring out a larger watchface and I'd buy in an instant.

  • Make these $299 and everyone would have one.

    • +1

      with the battery life? nah

      • -2

For $299 thats more than acceptable in this market for most people, but definitely not for anywhere close to $550 ~.

Better buy TicWatch Pro Ultra. 3-4 days battery life and you won’t be missing any features that you will be using on a day to day basis.

    • They've had to resort to giving it away free with some phone deals

My main complaint with my pixel watch is the feature set and software requirements. Fitbit leans heavily on the subscription model but has great base functionality in my opinion. I had a Charge 3. The pixel watch is so lovely, works better in every way, however, it requires the Google Watch app to sync…. Why??

Google owns fitbit! You can basically see the handover between the two apps happening when you use the Fitbit app. Apple doesn't do this. It's honestly quite disappointing but what can you do.

    • Regulatory I suspect. The idea of Google having all your FitBit data has raised eyebrows (as it should)

  • I think for this price Samsung watch5 is a better option to go for… Unless you own a pixel phone I see little benefit to opt for this instead?
