Paid about a third of this at Bunnings ages ago

    • Was it for the same model?

      • Yep it was $150.42 @ Bunnings in January.

      • Yes, definitely. Here one of the links to it, i believe i even paid just around $120

It was this cheap because Bunnings stopped carrying google products, and wanted to get rid of their remaining stock.
This is not a standard sale price, so i doubt it'll ever be this cheap again, unless a new model is released or another store does the same thing.

            @kmish:

so i doubt it'll ever be this cheap again

It's been even cheaper since. $124 at Optus.

            • @HomeAlone:

              • or in freak sales like the optus / telstra ones.

Pretty much all it is worth. The speed was garbage in my 4 bedroom house past the main router. Upgraded to the Netgear Orbi RBK852S and it runs rings around this despite being WiFi 6.

  • price match with jb hifi.

    Waiting for 2.4 ghz comments

    • do they happen with alarming frequency?

I got the OG Nest WiFi a few years ago, I do not recommend. Frequent drop-outs, sometimes internet just doesn't work. Having multiple access points around the house is more reliable.

    • What access points would you recommend? Looking to move to FTTP so I need to upgrade from my old basic Tenda mesh but have confused myself now that I've run ethernet to most of the house so mesh probably isn't the best option.

      • +1

You want the ethernet cable to be the link between your mesh access points (so that they can then use all their channels do to Wi-Fi and inter-access point stuff goes down the cable). So, depending on where you're installing "mesh" can still be a good thing for you, just make sure the kit supports wired backhaul.

Ubiquiti is the way to go. But not the cheapest.

        Wi-fi 7 AP's should be ok.

I have the OG Google Wifi and it’s been rock solid the entire time. Only issue I ever had was when my dog chewed through the power supply cable

But I am looking at an ASUS replacement as an upgrade

Bet it ran like a dog after that

Price is ok - but i got 2 3 packs for less than this.

I have these 6 units running in a 4 bed house and it works flawlessly to be fair.

After how bad Google Home/Nest has gotten and how they bricked my Nest Hub with a bad firmware update, the last thing I'd do is also hand my home network over for them to screw up as well

    • +2

and as with everything Google, they'll tire of it and just turn it off.

I've posted it before and I'll post it again…

Can only use AP mode with one node.
There's not much that's 'pro' about these things.

So what are the other 2? Wireless Routers?

For a home user I don't think it makes too big an impact does it?

      • What?
What I'm saying is if people have/need a separate router (eg. for a land line) and more than one of these units it will only run in router mode. That means double-NAT'ing, which can cause issues.

Not commenting on the deal, but these are trash…. Frequent drop outs, connection issues, having to reset. Swapped to orbi in the same location and connection, problem solved in 5 mins

Exactly my experience except I got negged for it. It’s always amusing to know people get butt-hurt over comments they dislike.

    • Weird. I have owned these for > 6 months now and have had 0 issues, apart from the known 2.4ghz annoyance.
