Looks like you have to set up a new plan

Can you cancel the plan and only pay the one month of plan fee and keep the discounted device payout amount ($7.50 X 24)? The payout fee on the page is still showing the full payout fee, not the discounted amount.

    • If you cancel then have to pay full payout.

      • Thanks. But what is the full payout?
        Is that the RRP $748?

        • +1

          Yep, RRP $748.80.

The discount will be forfeited if the customer cancels, recontracts or changes to an ineligible plan and the customer will have to pay out the full cost of the device on a pro-rata basis, excluding the device discount Optus was going to cover.

      • How do you get the price if you're already an existing Optus customer then? I don't want 2 plans.

The handset needs to be free before considering optus' overpriced plans VS other Telecom offers.

Cheapest plan is $49 per month, so that's $1176 over 24 months. Handset being $180 means $1356 overall costs.

  • I love my 6a, but can't imagine how much I would hate myself if I were still using it 36 months from now.

Looking at getting this phone for my significant other, so I'm curious what it is about the phone makes you write this? Thanks

    • Well, by then it would be a four year old device no longer receiving OS updates. 🀷

    • How regularly would you change/upgrade phone? I have mine for about 4-5 years before changing

"As I can see your on $40 my plan plus however as of now it is not available on your plan to because you are in old plan.

We will need to update your plan to new market plan so that you will be eligible for new device on your number."

New plans only. CS can't spell "you're". $26.50 extra per month x 24 months if I move to a new plan. For me, effectively over $580 for a Pixel 6a and stuck with Optus.

Most people will still be better off buying it outright for $749 at Google and getting a plan <$25pm.

You can buy Pixel 7 in this price. Check deals at JB Hifi.

    • Exactly, I am more than happy with my current 9.375pm plan

  • I am already with Optus, how can I not choose a plan?

    • +2

      You cannot πŸ˜…

      • OP please tell us how can you did?

If you are already on Sim only plan like $49 or $59 which is eligible plan then you can. I just confirmed over chat.
In my optus there is option for offers may be check there.

Suggest adding "Optus" somewhere in the post title. Would've saved me a click haha.

Honestly with deals like this it's amazing phone contracts are still a thing people sign up for.

$7.50 pm here with a far cheaper plan on 24m contract. Bonus 25000 flybuys

    • Why I can not find the plan for $7.5?

      • after selecting the plan, then click on mobile just below "Step 1 - Choose your service" https://www.optus.com.au/flybuys

They mean the handset payments are $7.50/month in addition to the plan costs. Cheapest seems to be $35/month with 20 GB data. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong:

        Monthly 24 months
        Pixel 6a $ 7.50 $ 180.00
        $35 plan $ 35.00 $ 840.00
        Total $ 42.50 $ 1,020.00

        OP deal:

        Monthly 36 months
        Pixel 6a $ 5.00 $ 180.00
        $49 plan $ 49.00 $ 1,764.00
        Total $ 54.00 $ 1,944.00

There's also $125 in Flybuys which can be redeemed for gift cards or money off shop.

          So in a way it's $1020 - $125 = $895. Almost $1000 better off.

        • Op also has 24 mth option which works out to I think $1356, no flybuys.

        • There is a geo offer promo going on with cheaper first 12 months but the flybuy is the better deal in overall cost.

  • No way you're saving $568. Plenty of 12 month plans that cost 1/4 of this. Please don't do it
