Samsung S23 128GB $0 on Optus $69/M for 24 Months (New Customers/ Port-in Only), Terminate Early & Pay out Phone ~$850 @ HN

370

Just saw on TV during F1 coverage. Hardly Normal is offering Samsung S23 128GB for 0 dollars on Optus 69 per month contract plan (24months) Same as https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/762908

Went to store and confirmed valid till 12th of April. Can upgrade by paying difference on phone prices. ie. to S23+ or Ultra. Not applicable to Pixel 7/Pro.

Enjoy.

I didn't buy because I am after a pixel 7 / pro.

People are telling me I need to call out the option to Early terminate the contract and pay the maximum cancellation fee of $828+maybe first month ($69). I thought that was a given.

    Pixel 7 pro sucks… seriously.

    • -4

      Agreed, have 1(pro)

Pixel 7 pro fan boys out on a negging spree

    • Is 7 Pro that bad ?

      • +1

Compared to some of the other flagships such as Mate 20 pro, the phone is really inferior in terms of build quality. The tensor g2 cpu gets super hot with anything, wireless charging is horrible, and location navigation often can't get the direction right (high accuracy already on).

Some members have indicated they do not have these issues, which leads me to think there are inconsistent builds. Not a great thing for a flagship phone.

How good is this season for mid pack.

    • It's good all the way up until Red Bull. Battle between Mercedes and Aston Martin is super interesting. How good is Alonso, seriously.

        Two red flags holy.

Optus, never again. Don't ever forget they have basicly gotten away with mistreating your personal data.

    • -1

      Yes it was bad

The bet is kinda like lightening wouldn't strike twice and that they wouldn't get hacked again but anything can be hacked

      • +1

Cybersecurity standards aren't like a weather event. If you don't do anything to improve the situation damn sure your going to get hit again.

Not saying Optus is now not reacting to perceived poor practises now, but the anology above is poor.

        • it was implied they would of increased their security after they got hacked and leaked

      • They weren't 'hacked'. They published a data full of excessive amounts of personal information on the open web. It is almost a given it will happen again.

        • Not the first time won't be the last

    • They won't miss you !

    • +2

That's SIM only plan, it's not the same

      • thanks for confirming, I didn't think so either.

    TL;DR
    S23 128GB for 897
    S23 U 256GB for 1496

    Samsung EPP is 20% off
    S23 128GB will be 1079.20
    S23 U 256GB will be 1559.20

They have been cheaper before (Amazon Sale here)(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/765619), but the pricing offered is not bad (if you're planning to sign up and terminate the plan immediately, paying out the cancellation fee)

      It's pro-rata, so a few dollars.

      • +1

Not necessarily, I have cancelled three Optus plans, two of which charged for a full month's usage before support credited them.

        • Good to know, but as you're pointing it out it's a billing error if it happens.

  • +4

    Harvey Norman - I avoid

    Optus - I would never

    end of deal thanks

    • +6

A bargain is a bargain. And not unusual a bargain comes with a price to pay. (on top of the price you actually pay).

  • +2

I love how they pretend the phone doesn’t cost you anything when a $69/m sim only plan with the same carrier gets you 220gb. FrEe PhOnE BuT BrO!

  • Dont spoil the F1 for me pls.

  • if this is like their last S23 deal a few weeks back you can cancel the day after getting the plan and get an S23 for ~$800 (50% of sim plan)

    • The deal hadn't ended and the plan can be cancelled immediately.

  • +2

    Optus Never again. Lessons learned.

  • They’d have to pay me $69 a month and some to use Optus with that phone.

  • +1

This has existed since mid-Feb after the pre-order period which had the double storage upgrade. The real value is in cancelling the plan and paying the Early Termination Charge, which brings the outright phone prices down close to the recent Amazon prices. Then find a phone plan that isn't a rip-off.

FYI the S23+ should be available with the $1350 discount as with the pre-order promotion (wasn't published then either), just ask staff

  • +1

OP you need to mention that the contract exit price is capped at $828, because as you can see with conveyor belt of megaminds in the comments, they think you're trying to tell them to sign up to Optus for 2 years.

    • OP made no mention of the Early Termination Charge being part of the deal. But I agree.

      • +1

edited. that title is hard to put together with so much details!

        • Please also add the product tags for the S23 Plus and S23 Ultra :)

  • Are the phones unblocked? Can I change it to another company once I cancel the Optus contract?

  • Is it better to cancel on the first day to minimise the cancellation fee? Or do they still charge you $69 for the first month + $828

    • +1

From previous deal it seems like experience vary, depending on how nice the Optus customer service agent is when you chat / call them. I've heard some leave the first month full charge, someone said he was able to even get 1st month waived, and i think i saw pro-rated somewhere too.

  • +1

All these anti Optus anti Harvey Ozbargainers saying they will never ever buy blah blah blah. I'm not a fan either. But if the deal was cheap enough you'll jump on it in a heartbeat.

  • Am I missing something? If the ETC is $850 ish, half of plan. Why not just use it for 1yr then cancel. You already paid for 1yr effectively. So pay the same as etc and get to use 1yr.

    • +1

half of remaining, so if you use for 12 months and cancel, you pay another 6 months (half of the 12 left)

    • because it costs more

  • +2

This deal come up so often and its usually better to do this deal during pre order as you usually get some bonus from Samsung. For S23 pre order was double data storage at the time.

  • Does anyone know of an equivalent priced plan but using the Telstra network?

    • Usually Telstra's termination fee is a lot higher, but if you want to use the plan sometimes Good Guys & Jb Hifi are the ones who offer it.

  • What's the cost for S23+ if you cancel straightaway?

    • +2

Never mind - just called HN and they told me it's $300 extra for an S23 which will bring it to 1150… Not sure if it's worth it or wait for another amazon deal.

went and got this and s23 had banana blur, took it back they opened another one and same thing even worse than first. cancelled contract. why cant samsung just make a not broken phone.

    • whats a banana blur

      • -1

display technology and pattern of layout of the pixels, especially looking at photos give you moire effect in the shape of tiny little boomerangs (banana).

  • Hi , its been 2 months my cancelation fee not process from my card. Maybe because my card expired last month and i got new card with new number.
My optus number is already gone .
Anyone know solution for this ? I want pay my fee . Before they look for me and i need to pay more or they put bad credit to me.
