Not sure I understand your question. The prices seem like pretty good deals to me

      • +12

Sounds like you are sharing your experience from 1980's, mate.

          • @Trishool: Definitely one of the worst , if not the absolute bottom of the barrel.

          • @Trishool: Along with BA

          • +4

@Trishool: They are below average but with recent ownership change , that too new owners being a reputable brand with a legacy, you expect better times. Plus this deal is for next year. That would mean 2 year with new owners. In airline industry it takes time and specially for one which needs a big culture change as well.

          • @Trishool: @Trishool not sure why you've been downvoted but absolutely spot on. The worst flying experience I've had was with Air India. Never again.

      • I agree.

      • I really don't understand why you have 17 negs for this. I'm assuming it's patriotic Indians disliking you sh1tting on their national airline. Don't see the big deal, everyone can sh1t on Qantas lately.

        • Air India was a solid airline before it was taken over by the Indian Government which is when it went to becoming one of the worst airlines, period. Hopefully when TATA buys them out and merges them with Vistara it will be a far better airline.

  • +16

Nice one Op! Those are some really good prices for return tickets to India on a full service airline.

  • So the link takes me to google which shows me the prices listed here. When i click on book with air india the prices change substantially and it seems like these are only 1 way prices not return.:s

  • +1

These are definitely bookable (as return fares) through the OTAs (online travel agents) google lists on the last page

  • +3

Good pricing, but ive heard nothing but bad things about the seat. Apparently the food is pretty good though.

  • +2

How is Air India in general? I've never flown with them but eager to hear what others have to say about their service

    • +1

One of the best I have experienced for economy leg space and food quality!

      • I'm guessing you haven't experienced a real quality airline service.

        • +2

Not sure if these are 'quality' airlines in your eyes but I found Air India's leg space and food to be better than Qantas, Delta and Air NZ which I have used more often. Singapore Airlines is the next favourite when it comes to food.

          • +1

@virhlpool: I would hope the Indian food served on Air India would be OK

better than the lunch box given to me on my Air Pakistan flight last century which comprised a cold boiled egg (in shell) and a square of hard cake …

          • +2

@virhlpool: There's more to a quality airline than legroom and food. I've flown on maybe 100 different airlines and whilst it's far, far from the worst, it's definitely far, far from the best.

            • @NoApostrophePlurals: Average food and service.
              Good leg space.
              Short duration.

Don't expect Singapore Airlines like experience from it. I'll rate it either below or on part with Thai just because of the short travel time.

      • It is right up there for one of the most terrible airlines. Especially after covid. Their entertainment systems barely work and they won't compensate you for that either. Flights are constantly delayed.

    • +7

One of the worst Airlines out there. Specially the direct flights they operate out from Australia.

    • +4

      DON'T. Just don't.

    • +4

Dirty and unreliable is my experience

    • -6

Do they give curry on the plane?

      • -8

Check out their toilets you will rather eat the curry.

    • +1

Ask an Indian and it's one of the best.
Ask anyone normal and it's one of the worst.
If you want to experience India without going to there, jump aboard Air India.

      • +2

True about the airline not sure after Tata takeover. About India, you are wrong

      • c'mon - they're only doing the needful …

      • Anyone normal?

Mate I do get what you are trying to convey but these phrases are really coming off a bit racist to me..

    • +1

They've gone downhill compared to 30-40 years ago (why is the 90's so long ago! I feel old.)

They are very flexible with weight restrictions, and the weight restrictions are generous too.
Food is really good, lots of alcohol service.

I like them more than Etihad.

    • Some people do prefer Air India noting the convenience of a direct flight to ports in India, very handy for older parents or families with babies. Whilst I do agree they are a bit behind in terms of offerings, the above mentioned reason is why all their flights are booked out whilst charging a premium.

So at the price mentioned by OP this is a Deal and a bloody good one too!

  • +4

    Great Deals +1

  • anyone can comment on the hygiene in the lavatories on air india flights?

  • Good price, but seems some pretty poor reviews especially lately on tripadvisor- from what i read common theme is old plane, tv often not working and mixed experience (often poor) with cabin crew especially in English

    • +5

They fly 787s to Australia. Definitely not old.

      • -1

Yet very run down. Flew once with them and never again. Hand painted signage - cheap. Smelled musty. My infotainment wasn't working. Toilets were putrid. If I was a flight attendant for Air India, I'd totally hate it. Most annoying passengers - needy as and can't get enough of the "free" alcohol. I totally get they stop responding after meal services.

        • +1

You are very brave to even try once

    • +5

@cdawgz : Well English is 1st Language in Catholic Schools in India & the flight attendants will not be hired if they do not speak English - I don't agree to your misconception. People in Oz study in public schools which are state schools but India has public schools like St. Joseph's, St Peter's & St. Mary's which are private here & Indian Schools have highly qualified Christian teachers so do not even go there mate. The flight attendants just fool you by speaking crooked English so you do not complain.

    • You get 30kg baggage limits.
They still treat you like a person at least.

Food is good, alcohol is good. Can't comment on the bathrooms, I never needed to go on them.
The flight I took from Delhi 7 years ago felt run down, the air conditioner stopped working so the flight was a bit uncomfortable.

  • +5

AirIndia has sh@t service, their chairs are loose, broken hand rest, broken screens, toilets are not clean and food is not good.

    • +1

At least the window is not retractable

    • +2

At least food and service is good as per my search…

  • +6

Had booked flight with them during Covid. They did not refund me single penny even the flights were cancelled and advisory issued by GOI to issue refund. Painful (profanity) process and crap service.
Charged with AmEx and got issued refund.
That was last time I had booked for Air India.

    • +6

Had exactly the same experience with Malaysia and Thai airlines (still fighting with one of them). 9 out of 10 airlines sucked during Covid. That's not the right benchmarking, to be fair.

      • Any business that refuses to issue you a refund for their fault is the benchmark, to be fair. I have more than 4 holidays cancelled during 2020-2021. I was issued refunds for every single flight booking.

    • +4

It's own by Tata Group now, hopefully they have improved the service.

    • +5

Not for me, i got back my money post cancellation charges (not sure agent charged it or airline deducted that). You can raise an RTI (very easy) and they will send the response in writing about the status of your refund.

    • +1

I am still working with Malaysian

    • +1

      How abt other countries?

  • -6

Imagine the smell and the condition of the toilets

    • -2

Is the because they serve currries in the plane and passengers get mudbutt?

      • +2

Just general hygiene, this is known to be one of the dirtiest and poorly maintained airlines. I would avoid until its not possible anymore

        • +1

Not possible anymore? Will this shit tier airlines take over all other airlines or something?

    • +1

Well! Don’t eat fish&chips before getting on the plane D*ck !

    • I've seen way worse toilets on the public toilets along the Hume highway mate.
      Also in Cinque Terre, Italy.

  • +2

Nice prices, sad they are only for Feb

  • +4

Much better leg space and newer aircraft than qantas

    • +2

      Seems correct:
Air India: Boeing 777-200LR: 34 Pitch, 18 Width
      Air India: Boeing 787-8 (788): 32 Pitch, 18 Width
      in Comparison to:
      Singapore: Airbus A350-900 (359) Layout 2: 32 Pitch, 18 Width
      Scoot: Boeing 787-8 (788) Layout 2: 31 Pitch, 18.9 -19.7 Width

      • +1

Its to generally accommodate the size of the average Indian. But dont mix leg space with comfort, their seats are horrible, especially given the duration of the flight being around 10-12 hours.

  • +1

    Noel Philips review - https://youtu.be/5IWeyXnnJ2M

  • +4

Hopefully as Tata took over one can expect a better service by feb’24.

  • +3

Worst Airline ever, I had a very bad experience with them recently.

    • +2

What was bad about it and bad compared to which airlines? My worst has been Delta and a few in Asia. The best food, hospitality and leg space I have ever had was on Air India.

  • +3

I have flown them a couple of times. it is like a lottery. it could be either very good or very awful.

  • AI is ranked above British Airways, Lufthansa, Air Canada and many others, as per this ranking: https://www.airhelp.com/en-au/airhelp-score/airline-ranking/

    • +4

      Qantas is 3rd, unbelievable

  • +3

My experience was great. Always remember what you are paying for compared to other airlines in budget category

  • +3

Air India Places Record Order for 470 Planes From Airbus and Boeing

  • +2

Not a good idea to book Air India flights in advance that too almost a year in advance. Their customer service is one off the worst in the world.

  • +5

I've done the Sydney->Delhi (and back) flight a couple of times, pre-covid. I found the experience good (whilst not outstanding), and the food was very nice. From memory they were relatively new 787's.

The Delhi airport itself also seemed quite well organised and efficient. Not great for overnight layovers though - the cattle class lounge (priority pass) was very basic. Perhaps Business Class passengers have better lounge options.

Domestic Air India flights within India were a different story - almost always ran late, and aged aircraft.

Any recent experiences? Keen to see how it is under the TATA ownership.

    • Don’t expect much

    • +2

I can recommend Mumbai train station for sleeping - the green polished floor is so lovely and warm and you can curl up with thousands of people also waiting for their 6-hour delayed departure - and there's handy chai and food stalls just there - very comfortable - BYO floor rug

  • +2

    Any deals for Delhi?
Traveled last week, experience was good with kids. Legspace was better than Thai, singapore for sure.

  • +1

    The seats smell like R Kelly's sheets…….

  • +2

I'd like to go to Chennai for the food but Feb climate shows as 22-32C

I'm a milk chocolate that melts over 23C

and after our experience in Mumbai and Goa milady ain't ever wanna go back to India

(I didn't see the problem with the rat skipping past our feet as we ate grilled meat at an outdoor place near the Mumbai Gateway of India sitting at a table across the gutter - two legs on the road, two legs on the footpath)

    • You ate the rat's cousin!
