Same chipset as an iPhone 13, 13 Pro and 14.

But the 13 benefits from over a 1,000mAh battery advantage. Yes, its a small screen. But the SE 2 had terrible battery life and that was without 5G.

        • Fair enough

        • Is 5G a thing in Australia? I heard that its range is very small compared to 4G. I agree that the battery life of the SE 2020 is ass, I need to charge mine once (or need twice its battery) for a day's use, hence why I have a case with a battery inside it.

            Yes

I heard that its range is very small compared to 4G

5G is still being rolled out so the coverage is not the same, but Telstra claim that 80% of the population is covered by 5G today, compared to 98% for 4G. If you don't live in the bush you should be fine.

@1st-Amendment: We have 20% people living in the bush?

We have 20% people living in the bush?

Dunno, what does the word 'bush' mean to you? The Sticks? Woop-woop? Bumf.uck Egypt?

The point here is you live somewhere quiet, you shouldn't really complain when you're not getting the latest and greatest services

            • @1st-Amendment: I checked with someone’s iphone 13 and my area does have 5G, I am surprised. Unfortunately, I don’t plan to upgrade anytime soon so won’t be using it.

          • -2

@FrugalFindsDownUnder: 5G is a shocker! Yes it is available, but, in highly built up areas, such as Sydney CBD, it cannot keep a true track of your location and it's gyro is stuffed. Trying to move around with Google Maps is a disaster as it keeps sending you the wrong way.

This has nothing to do with 5G and everything to do with all the large bits of concrete and steel that are blocking GPS.

              • @1st-Amendment: well yeah,….but if that's the problem, then why have a system that can't work with that problem?

Why have a phone? Because I find it useful, even it isn't 100% perfect.
Why do you have a phone?

I’m still rocking my SE 2020 and like it. Still going well after two years use. Battery wise I get a day and a half out of it, maybe two if I don’t do much the second day. Wife uses hers more and charges it every night. It’s still fast and the screen is good.

I might wait another year or more and upgrade. The only thing that I don’t like a lot about iPhone is the bad selection of words it places using swipe keyboard. It seems to sometimes think I mean some obscure word when I’ve swiped for a common word I use a lot. I end up spending a while fixing up wording. Seems better when I close other background apps. So I think it’s a CPU thing.

I like the small screen size in my pocket and it’s reasonably readable.

@GeneralSkunk: I have the same issue with the iOS keyboard.

One thing that helps to fix mistakes is if you hold the space bar it lets you freely move the cursor around the text box.

Before I found that out I was long pressing on the text itself to place the cursor and it’s really finicky.

@alcadive: Thanks for the tip, I do use that feature too. It’s quite handy! Maybe for my next I’ll get a 13 mini or something. I would like a little larger but not full size.

              • @GeneralSkunk: Yeah I got the 12 mini recently and it’s awesome. Bigger screen but smaller phone overall. I don’t think Face ID is as good as the fingerprint reader though.

Re that tip: On models with TouchID (like this one), you can hold anywhere on the keyboard, not just on the space. No idea why it's different on FaceID iphones.

And refraining from posting that comment was free…

    • Gotta agree. Surely an iPhone 11 is a better buy at this point. the power efficient chipset can only compensate for a tiny battery so much.

    • I was just saying in the other thread that this iPhone blows comparable Androids out of the water in benchmarks. It is a very old form factor but it has a very new chip in it. The smaller screen may suit some people too.

Wish they kept the headphone jack

    • long gone since iphone 7.

      • +6

yeah i know, i have a 1st gen SE i use as a spare. Just wish theyd bring it back.

    5G ?

    • +1

      Yes

      • +1

        Perfect thanks got it

  • Really hope the rumours about the refresh next year are true while maintaining the price point. I have the SE 3 and I like the small form factor.

    • +2

The refresh is supposedly gonna be much larger

How about iPhone 12 mini from last deal of Amaysim?

      • How did u get sim refunded?

        • Had problem porting from Telstra business account so they refunded.

          • +1

@Surfsalot: I guess the side hustle of your business is scalping with the help of OzB. That's not cool.

But bragging about it? That's shitty all the way.

            • @pizzaguy: deals a deal lol, bad luck you missed out. too may $5 pizzas hehe

      • +1

Well that's life changing , what did you spend your fortune on ?

        • +1

Surfboard of course, come out of your cave and give it a go.

  • +1

So far (6 months in) I have found the battery in this one way better than the 2nd gen, and that's dual-simming with 5G!

  • How does it compare with iPhone 12 mini?

    • This has better chip - negligible performance wise tbh, but otherwise 12 mini better in most respects especially camera. Both have reviews that complained about battery life. Really, it comes down to if you want the home button (SE) and do you take lots of photos with it (12 mini). Both phones will last quite a while.

I got SE for grandparents because I couldn't be bothered teaching them how to navigate without the button.

      • I just switched from the SE2 to 12 mini and loss of the home button is such a major usability fail. It forces you to relearn nearly everything. The screen while bigger than the SE2 doesn’t seem any more legible for text.

        • +1

Relearn to swipe up instead of press basically. The se screen is actually wider so probably better for text

Not really a deal if you need all 256gbs for this type of phone and camera ,
People that use 256gb have a lot of apps and take many videos , and if that’s your use better off getting a iPhone 12 or 13

    • What's your opinion on people using 128gb?

  • could you price match at Apple?

  • I’m sure this one is better, but the 2020 is the biggest piece of crap ever. Work gave me one and I don’t even get to lunch time from 8am. It’s an office job and yes I use it for calls a lot but mate calls should not kill the phone the way it does.

    • Did you check the battery health when your company gave you the phone? Or… now?

Mere GSM voice calls shouldn't kill the phone even if it's low though.

  • How did they price match an online only offer? I was thinking of officeworks but pretty sure they only do in store stock price match

    • They take an online offer and they match. Not sure what else is there to say, hope that helps!

  • Successfully priced matched at Melbourne CBD JB HiFi today. Would only price match the “white” one (as mwave only discounting white one).
They only had 1 white and 1 black left after my purchase and Elizabeth st had no stock - so stock availability is slim!
