  • Theyre made in china though. Ive heard they can be contaminated. It worries me.

Edit: yeah, for the chicken necks, sorry missed that.

Its weird they do their own pigs ears but not chicken necks.

It gets confusing too when companies label stuff as packed from local and imported ingredients

Because it's Chickadee china, the chinese chicken, have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin

          Agreed, that shit is annoying.

As for the chicken necks, I think my dog will be fine, he was a street dog and eats everything, like sticks, every type of plant, and stuff in the backyard and then yaks it up. I would hope that Blackdog would have good QC, but say there are contaminants, it will only strengthen his already tough digestive system. My last dog was a border collie I adopted at 9 years old, and she was allergic to (profanity) everything and was only allowed to eat Royal Canin Hypoallergenic ($250 a bag), no snacks, nothing. She probably ate only the finest organic locally sourced food growing up. So when I got her and gave her regular food or offcuts when I'm cooking, even fruit and veg, she developed skin problems, butthole problems (tacrolimus ointment $180 for 30g) and all sorts of issues. I don't need that in my life again. Loved her to death, but had her for less than 5 years and cost me over 50k in vet and hospital bills (spinal surgery at 11, cancer scare that turned out to be lupus at 13… the list is very long). I want to be able to chuck a bone at my Kelpie when I'm butchering a lamb.

@rosebank: Fanconi-like Syndrome is something my ex's staffy developed whilst being fed chicken treats processed in China. Stomach of steel; ate everything and anything; lived on a rural property and hunted and killed anything that moved.

That is my only concern with the imported chicken. Diagnosis was long and arduous and involved going to the Sydney Uni Vet hospital in the inner west of Sydney and extensive testing and treatment.

It went away after stopping being fed the treats of course - but was touch n go.

That would be my only concern if feeding a dog chicken based products that aren't sourced and processed in Australia. The vets at the uni had seen quite a few cases and had always developed following being fed chicken treats not sourced in Australia. They couldn't establish a link to a contaminant.

There was some stuff for cats a while back that was. My understanding is these days all the pet food from china, south america etc all gets irradiated to kill stuff. But some have concerns of that process also. I just try to get most stuff aussie sourced, but that is not without its own concerns as the pet food industry has bugger all regulations. I generally think less regulation is better as it tends to get excessive and stupid, but in this instance, its lacking.

The rspca newsletter repeatedly has reports of lethal poisonings from australian sold dog food. Its just not right. And they never seem to name and shame the dog food sellers. And they never seem to face any consequences. Its really scary.

The rspca recommends you only feed pets human grade meat because that is the only one with regulations and oversight!

But when i ask a dog food company is your meat human grade they be like 'yeah but we cant say that for legal reasons'. How am i supposed to know if they are telling the truth?

Seriously im reading books from the library about making dog food. Going to start doing that. Ive just been told about a facebook group too https://m.facebook.com/groups/rawandfresh/
