[Perks] Sony Alpha A7C Full Frame Mirrorless Camera [Body Only] $1,699.15 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ JB Hi-Fi

870

You can get the Sony a7c (same sensor as the Sony A7III) for ~$1.7k at JB after applying the coupon code.

You can take this a step further with a power move: Request a price match at Sony, pay with amex, use cashrewards 9.8% cashback. This brings the total price down to $1,447.77. Screenshot of price matched purchase

Combine this with GST refund at the airport to bring the price down to $1,293.30. I managed to claim the price match successfully and made the purchase. However, YMMV.

Further, I paired this with the Sony 16-35mm Full Frame F4 G lens via a separate transaction after price matching it with camera warehouse to bring the lens down to $1,447.71. After cashrewards and amex, the lens costs $1,218.73. If claiming GST, it brings it down to $1,087.12.

Total cost comes to $2.38k for me.

Man you and the other guy just now need to go back to primary school to find your math teacher and apologise to them

    • +2

Long day, and I can't math! Accidentally put the price of a G master lens I was looking at.

    • +3

It’s too late to apologise…it’s too late!

power move: Request a price match at Sony

    Sony will price match overnight??
JB Hi-Fi Discount ends by morning!

    • No they won't. If this had have been earlier in the day it could have been achieved via live chat on the Sony site, but if this expires tonight, there will be no price match available.

      • Sony live chat is still online.

        • Then you may well arrange it. Get it done.

        • Says offline for me

          • @cyrax83: Got it price matched over live chat about 5 minutes ago. Just keep an eye on it, it seems to randomly open throughout the night. I've spoken to their live chat as late as 10pm sometimes.

            • @eecan: Realised its not much of an upgrade from my a7iii. Will sit this one out

              • @cyrax83: In many ways, it's a downgrade from an a7 III.
                Fewer buttons/dials.
                Smaller grip.
                Smaller EVF.
                Single card slot.

                I'd take the a7 III.

                • @O15: I have had the both cameras and ended up with A7iii. I actually liked the size of A7c but didn't like the ergonomic of it at all. Then the shutter sound was worse (I know this is just personal preference but I hated it so much, didn't feel like a shutter. In fact, later I found out it doesn't have the same mechanical shutter as the A7iii). Third and probably most crucial difference was the EVF. It was way smaller than A7iii. The experience was very different. If you like your A7iii then don't buy this. Having said that, everything else (except for limited dials etc) is pretty much the same as A7iii.

            • @eecan: What exactly are you price matching? The JB hi fi current price with the 15% off code?

              • @GReeeeN: Yup, 1699.15 including the coupon code in the store name field

    • +1

They approved the pricematch. You can message them to speed things up.

      • how did you message them?

  • $1999 - 15% = $1699.15

  • how would you split payment with Sony given the amex offer is 500 - 100?

    • +1

Buy the lens and camera separately on two different cards (e.g. supplementary).

      • Do you know how long the product stays in your cart with the price match offer?

        • +1

          Years

          • @snvl: LOL, not if they're out of stock.

            • @craving: Mine has been out of stock and it still there

  • doesnt work for me :(

    • Did you apply your perks code?

      • eyah it keeps getting cancelled

  • -2

FYI this is the old model, new ones coming out soon. this camera was released a while ago.

    • Always new ones coming out.

    • -1

Plenty of A7C II rumors for the past year but nothing has eventuated. Likely to be released sometime this year but nothing imminent. It will also probably retail for > $3000 when/if it is released.

  • Price match sony? Will they match $1,699 after coupon price? Or just the $1,999?

    • +1

They price matched $1,699. See my screenshot above.

      • I cant see your screenshot. Thanks

  • As much as I want to, I already have too many APSC lenses to switch over and I don't want the lens range factor to be multiplied by 1.5.

    • +1

My understanding is if you use an APS C lens on a full frame it just gives you the same lens range - but will use less of the sensor so you will get like 11MP.

While if you use a full frame lens on an APS C camera that’s when you get the 1.5 factor.

      • If this is true, I'd like to grab this camera before the night is over

        • Yeah it essentially turns a 30mm into a 45mm focal length. However I don't know if it's only the focal length that's impacted, I'm sure it's usable, a lot of people do it as well, but you'll probably want to eventually buy full-frame lenses as well.

    • +1

      if you are using a lens with electronics (like a Sony E 35mm f1.8) on a A6000,
and you use the same lens on a A7C, it will give you the same angle of view as on A6000. (like a 50mm) the camera will automatically crop the image. This means you will not get a 24 megapixel if with that lens.

      • I have 3 zooms, 2 Sony Gs and a Tamron, then a 50mm F1.8 prime and 30 mm F1.4 manual. The zooms will be very costly to replace.

        • +2

Tamron 28-200 will cover most of your range.

Honestly, unless you know exactly why APS-C doesn't cut it for you atm, just stick with your current camera body. Moving from Full Frame, I actually cut down the number of lenses for my kit compared to my APS-C gear since I knew much better what I wanted to shoot and how.

          • @Skyllian Blitz: Yeah, you're right. This is a tough decision to make upgrading from the a6400. I would really like to have IBIS. Ideally, I prefer the a6600 but it is just as expensive as the A7C. At least the A7C have better image sensors and basically a more capable camera. Other than that the 6400 is a great camera. I'm going to think about it for a while.

  • In the market for a new camera, this or the fujfilm x-t5 and 18-55mm lens ? After discount will be $2,549

    • Yeah I am having the same dilemma.

From online it seems the XT-5 is better for photos and has Fujifilms film simulation modes which people love.

But the Sony A7C is better for video and slightly better AF. It’s also full frame, which is nice if you want to use old film camera lenses. It also used to mean better low light performance but lots of reviews think that’s not really a thing with new APS-C camera like the XT-5.

    • +1

The fijifilm has an apsc sensor, so everything will be cropped in. The full frame equivalent for that lens is 27mm to 82.5mm. In my opinion, a full frame sensor will be much better, especially for handling low light (which this camera is amazing at).

      • Does A7C good for photography ?

    • More lens choice on the Sony

  • +1

and someone is bidding on a used cond one on eBay for over $2k now, though w a few lenses

  • Just connected with Sony then and got the price match! Thanks

  • Does anyone know how long a price matched item will stay in your sony store account before disappearing?

Travelling on the 23rd of june and seeing if I can squeeze an extra 5 days out of the cart so I can buy it within the 60 day TRS period

    • +1

I haven't actually seen anything of mine drop off yet but I have an account with a price matched item from January still active.

    • +1

I also have a price-matched item in the cart. The only issue is that item is no longer in stock so I have to delete it.

  • +1

Good find OP. Wasn't tempted by this when it was released but the smaller more conspicuous form factor has grown on me.

  • +2

Looks like Sony Live Chat is a bit busy tonight.

  • The sensor might be the same, but the electronic shutter in the A7C is half as fast as the mechanical available in the A7III which has got me into trouble more than once with a super fast lens.

    • Do you mean the mechanical shutter is only half as fast? The a7c electronic shutter can go 1/8000 too, as far as I know the only way to enable that is to turn on silent shooting.

I like fujifilms implementation where it uses mechanical as much as it can then switches to electronic once you've set a fast enough shutter speed. On the a7c if you enable electronic then it's electronic the whole way through

      • Whaaaaaaat? TIL thankyou!

  • Is it too late to price match? Chat shows offline now sadly

  • I got an email after the price match got confirmed with Sony. What happens after I reply to the email?

    • Nothing. I guess by now they are aware of the JB Hifi sale.

  • Got trolled by the chat. Said I was in line and then 2 mins later the chat just closed. Oh well wait for the next deal then

  • +6

What is the point of mentioning GST refund?

    A. It is applicable to pretty much any item, any deal listed on OzBargain
    B. But only if you are travelling within 30 days and willing to take the item with you

It has nothing to do with the deal itself, claiming GST refund does not make anything a deal.

    • +3

      60 days

    • and not willing to take it back

  • +7

I sold my A7C and upgraded to the A7iv using price match for around $2500 after cashback.
A7C is great compact camera, but unless you plan on using just a small lens, then better off with the bigget A7 iii or A7 iv imo.

    • How are you finding the size, weight and features of the a7 IV compared to the A7C?

      • +2

The A7C feels better in the hands, more sleek and premium. A7 iv feels more plasticky. Not much difference in weight, especially since i'm using 24-70 GM lens which is most of the weight.

But in terms of taking photos, A7 iv much better with the bigger viewfinder, and better grip (but you do get used using the smaller A7C in the hands especially with bigger lens one hand will be on the lens)

  • Just wondering, been a Nikon user since day 1 but would I regret if I change to Sony ecosystem? Still have the 24-70 Nikkor Z and 85mm Nikkor Z lens. Thoughts?

  • +1

Would love to buy one at this price, then realised all i need is a mobile phone.

  • be careful with this deal, JB tends to dispatch Demo & Display model rather than brand new….

  • Amazing deal, thanks for posting!

I wonder if it's worth leaving the item in the cart and waiting for a bigger cashback offer, but now it seems to be 12% Cashback at Cashrewards, which is not bad, is it ?
