  • Where are you seeing those redemptions? The options are:

Buy the AEG 18V 3-Piece Brushless 6.0Ah FORCE Kit and redeem your choice of a bonus tool or battery. Choose between the 18V Worksite Blower and Inflator/Deflator, 18V High Pressure Inflator or the 18V 4.0Ah Battery.

The OP is referring to the total package potential once you add the single redemption item.

I use AEG. Got it very cheap. I'd rate it as better than Ryobi but not as good as Makita. YMMV

      • Ah yeah I see it now.

      • better than Ryobi

Just FYI they are basically just Ryobi tools with a better warranty.

Ryobi, AEG (RIDGID in the US) and Milwaukee are all made by TTI industries and the first two often share the exact same moulds for tools.

        • I use Ryobi 18V at work and the AEG I use are definitely different. Maybe they are different models?

        • Definitely better than Ryobi

  • The 4th skin through redemption is rubbish tho.
Could get same kit with 5Ah instead of 6Ah for $399 couple of weeks ago.

    Nice find OP

I've heard very good things about AEG from a few tradies

  • +2

I have a few AEG items….my level is a DIYer at Ryobi level but find this better quality compared to them.

From what I understand, AEG would be equivalent to Dewalt, but not as heavy duty as Milwaukee and Makita. Though AEG's instagram shows lots of tradies using them.

What do you plan to do with them? Are they just for around the house? Or are you a tradie and working with them so need reliability? How many batteries do you think you'll need?
The batteries are common bonus with redemptions so I would be focussing on getting the tools you need/want.

If I had my time again and if your budget allows, I would get the kit with as many items as you'll think you'll need to start off as a base, yes it's 4 x more $$$$ than the offer you posted but less faffing about waiting for decent redemption with a little variety….me? I want a trim router, big 184mm recip saw, circ saw and planer etc. for around the house …..the amount of bonus offers with a brushless driver/impact base set is just annoying>> $1999 - 18V 6.0AH 8 PIECE POWER COMBO KIT WITH FUSION & FORCE and sell off the bits of kit you don't want (for me i.e. would be selling the radio, SDS drill in that kit).

If I were you based on the kit you've linked in post, I would actually go for the fusion heavy duty here for $50 more with the grinder on redemption….for more power >> $599 - 18V 2 PIECE FUSION HEAVY DUTY 6.0AH FORCE KIT FYI….this was the kit I started with. I never need more than two batteries.

Also really consider the compact range, as the amount of times I need to drill in a tight spot around the house, the hammer drill is just too big.

For home DIY, Ryobi to me has more little crafty bespoke tools like glue guns, rotary tools, heat guns that I would pick up in that ecosystem…..for heavier duty work horses, I would go with AEG and above mentioned brands. For trades, I would lean towards Makita/Milwaukee.

If I had to restart and buy my power tools again. I’d go a larger kit. The money I spent buying stuff on top of my base kit, worked out to be more expensive than a larger kit.

    • Thank you for your professional suggestion

AEG is from the same parent company (TTI Hongkong) as ryobi, rigid and milwaukee, in general
      Ryobi < Rigid < AEG < Milwaukee

For a casual DIYer you'd be better off getting this Ryobi kit: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/770013

For a more regular DIYer, this AEG kit would be more suitable. Build quality is a little better and the Fusion gear is more powerful than the Ryobi.

Edit: I'm quite sure I've seen this same kit for less than this in the past though.

    • That's a pretty decent kit for under $400 especially if they are brushless and the HP models.

    • None of these are brushless

AEG is the same as Ridgid in the US. They seem fairly well regarded for their price point and are generally a small step above Ryobi but generally not as good as Makita/Milwuakee/Dewalt.

  • I have the AEG brushless (drill, impact,grinder,2x 5ah) for $399-Promo - Heavy DIYer - (Deck build, pontoon on dam, bathroom and subframe and soon another deck)

Few years ago I rang AEG/ TTI and asked to speak to a tech, not sales. Asked what are the differences since TTI owns all three brands (Ryobi-AEG-Milwaulkee).
He said as you go up the windings are slightly better, the plastic mouldings slightly tougher and circuitry is improved. Battery tech not a lot of difference.

Having said that my 15year old hand me down Bosch blue drill 1.5aH battery lasted as long as my bro's new 1.5aH ryobi- we were drilling like for like in a small project.

Note: You also need to drill down (pun intended!) on the specs for each kit/skin. Lot of Ryobi drills are only ~50Nm (especially kits) but their RPD18X model
https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-4-0ah-hp-brushless… is 82Nm which matches the AEG's drill. (Avail in skin and some kits)

Not much fun for the average punter to do, but for an avid spreadsheeter and tech specs fan like myself it's par for the course when committing to any expensive purchase.

I now have a Ryobi tile saw for bathroom project and battery/charger which will be handy to borrow mates Ryobi skins I might need in the future.
