Hey all,

Not a bad price for a dish wand. If you don't have one of these then I'd recommend it, I've only used the dishomatic one so can't comment on this ones quality but reviews look fine! Real deal is S&S discount, so sign up with that and then cancel it. Refills aren't on special so hopefully they are by the time you have to replace this head

They're price matching woolies so you can get from there if you aren't a prime member/have your 10% mobile shop still.

It's chux, so hopefully doesn't sux

are dishmatic refills compatible with these?

    • +5

Nope, that’s the result of my experiment at Coles’ aisle.

  • +6

Yeah this one is shit. Handle seemingly leaks and sponge is flimsy, feels about to fall off.

Edit: Reviews from Big W rate it 1.7/5

    • +4

not sure why you would rely on big W as a source for reviews, the most recent review is 4 years old. I have one of these and cant fault it.

      • +4

I didn't rely on big w as a source, I used my own experience and then shared other people's experiences they had. From the comments here, seems you're the outlier.

Besides, the age of the review doesn't matter it's not exactly like these are getting yearly design refreshes lol they're not phones, they're a $2 piece of plastic. If anything, the quality declines not improves.

Even the ALDI one is around this price (with cheaper refills) and is much better. I do recommend dishmatic one though, same as OP. Spending an extra dollar is worth it sometimes.

        • +2

Well I can say that I had problems with the dishmatic. Specifically a batch of heads that wouldn't stay clipped onto the handle. I think its a large assumption to think that quality only declines over time, not always the case. I would also say the reviews on amazon for this are mostly positive as opposed to the old reviews on the big w website.

          • +2

@Pulse123: Both are shit poor, but there aren't any better alternatives for a reasonable price. Dishmatic is worse quality wise but the design flaw in the end popping open and soap leaking out on the chux is as bad. I have both and slightly prefer chux… But it's a turd sandwich or a giant douche situation.

Terrible quality. Sponge scourer loses so much plastic after washing. Tube fills with water. Instant landfill.

  • +1

Anyone recommend a good version of this?

    • +1

I dont mind these ones, as long as you arent washing it in a whole sink of water, it doesnt fill up with water for me at all.

      • Thanks for sharing. I've got one on the way so I'll give it a go before I order any refills.

        • +2

Unfortunately I haven't tested this one but dishomatic is my recommendation. Never had any issues with it

Dishmatic. I’ve had the same handle for 10 years and it doesn’t leak.

      • second this

I was googling this product and came across a reddit lifehack post. Fill this up with dishwashing detergent & vinegar and leave it in the shower to clean your shower while you shower!

    • Been doing this for years - it works really well.

    • Genius! I'll be trying this for sure.

  • Is this for people who don't have a dishwasher? ANy other use for it

    • +7

I have it so I can clean my things quickly instead of using my dishwasher sometimes.

      clean bottom

  • Any lifehacks to mod typical standard sponge onto these ? or mod a wand from something else to suit any sponge ?

Not a fan of the hotglue mod from youtube.

    Thought of using velcro.

You can 3D print replacement heads and super glue your own sponge by cutting them to size. That's if you have access to a 3D printer or know somebody that does! Unfortunately it won't last long as the originals as 3D material tends to lose shape in hot temperatures.

      • +2

You don't even need to 3d print heads. The sponge is easily cut away from the plastic on the head and then you can reuse that plastic part by super/hot gluing a piece of cut up sponge to it.

  • Thanks for the insights. I canceled my order.

I have one and if you fill up with liquid it leaks from the handle. You have to make sure it's standing by the sponge side.

    • Yeah that’s annoying

  • +1

Are these better than the Aldi version? The Aldi one comes with two replacements heads.

  • Unless you can get replacement sponges for these handles on the cheap it can be more expensive than regular sponges. It’s analogous to buying a cheap printer and having to pay for expensive ink refills. Also, after being prepared to pay extra for the specific sponges you will find they are often out of stock!

Regarding the sponge quality itself they are OK. The biggest issue is the detergent can leak from the handle.

Honestly, these sound good but has so many compromises (so many things it can't clean well and they leak etc.)that I reckon you're better off with good ol' sponge and hands. And yes you have to get a bit more hands on and dirty but one pump of hand wash and you're golden.

I solved the leaking problems by placing a piece of blue tack between the latch and the rubber grommet in the latch to make a stronger contact between that part and the main handle (which is where the detergent leaks from).

It can be a little hard to pry the latch off but it comes off easy enough and snaps back in easily too.

I've been using the same Aldi handle for over a year now whereas before they lasted a week or two and I was frugal enough to take them back for a replacement time and time again.

Also I find mixing Aldi's Tantil Ultra and Morning Fresh can create a more viscous detergent that lasts much longer than using either separately. I find the ratio of 1:5 Tandil to Morning Fresh to be best. The pin hole that the detergent goes into the sponge from can be drilled out slightly too to further dial in the best ratio for you.

    These sponges disintegrate so easily

  • Had mine for years and haven't had trouble. Replace the sponge every one or two weeks, or else ew. Haven't had any leaks, but I do sometimes end up with hardened soap in the little hole if I don't use it for a bit.

  • Been using this model for years too, tried all the others and ended up with this one. The shape of the sponge and the hard scraper on the back are very useful. Never had an issue with sponge quality or soap dispensing rate. Just buy the refills in bulk when they rarely go on special

  • When using dishwand like this sometimes the dishwashing liquid doesnt come out.
Any ideas why and how to fix this issue?

  • People here talking shit on this but I used Dishmatic for over 10 years, drove me crazy as the liquid would stop flowing out quite often, even when I purchased a whole new one I had issues. Switched to Chux and it's WAY better. There might be an even better option but I've been happy with Chux so won't be looking any further at the moment.
