Welcome to the Ultimate Guide of Youtube Premium Subscriptions via Turkey

Where were we? Ahhhh… yes… we're back again, after 6 months, except this time with an upgraded guide. Most of you should be on this subscription already, but for those who are new or haven't yet hopped on the bandwagon, here's a reminder that it exists :)

After Google increased the prices for Youtube Premium in several countries worldwide late 2022, including USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Japan (etc), we have the following facts:

  • Argentina is no longer the cheapest country to sign up from after being the go-to for years (now ARS 389 / A$2.67 for Individual plans and ARS 699 / A$4.80 for Family plans). Further, they have changed the way they take payments and so many Australian debit and credit cards no longer work for Argentina.
  • India is now the cheapest country to sign up from, although subscribing to the Youtube Premium (Family) plan is almost impossible given India's new laws around payments and now requires a local Indian payment method, something most of us do not have access to. Youtube Premium (Individual) should still be doable using ExpressVPN.
  • Turkey is now the second cheapest and easiest country to sign up from (just under 10 cents more than India)

Since last deal, most OzBargainers have migrated from Argentina to other countries (majorily Turkey). If you tried to sign up to a Youtube Premium Family via India, you probably hit a dead end, with most cards ending up declining due to this reason and this reason. Well if that is the case, hopefully Youtube Premium via Turkey will be a breeze, especially for those who have Google One via Turkey already (confirmed working for me, you will not need to enter a new address and it took me like 30 seconds to sign up to Youtube Premium Family).

Note: You DO NOT need to change your region to subscribe to YouTube Premium (Turkey). Unlike Google One which requires a region change to an extent, security for Youtube Premium is not as tight as Google One. Simply log into your main account, use a Turkish VPN and sign up YouTube Premium.

Available Plans via Turkey:

For price references, Youtube Premium via Australia is $8.99/mth for student plans, $14.99/mth for individual plans & $22.99/mth for family plans

You can subscribe to either a monthly plan or an annual plan.

Please read the following instructions carefully. I've tested it on iPhone and PC (windows), so here's my experience - and it took literally minutes.

Instructions (No Current Subscription)

Note: If you're signing up for a family plan, best to add your Australia family members / accounts into a family group BEFORE signing up, otherwise you may get the following error: "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager". To add family members, go to: https://families.google.com/families

Step 1: Add any family members to your Google Family Group (if needed): https://families.google.com/families

Step 2: Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

Step 3: Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership.

Step 4: When prompted, enter your Turkey address (If needed, use a fake address generator to obtain a random Turkey address) and proceed to pay by debit/credit card (preferedly with no international fees)

Step 5: Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

Instructions (Transferring from a different country)

Note: If you're signing up for a family plan, best to add your Australia family members / accounts into a family group BEFORE signing up, otherwise you may get the following error: "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager". To add family members, go to: https://families.google.com/families

Step 1: Go to https://m.youtube.com/paid_memberships and click on your current subscription. Click “manage” then continue to cancel. Once cancelled, the current subscription will continue until the end of the billing period. But you now have an option to resubscribe back to Youtube Premium

Step 2: Add any family members to your Google Family Group (if needed): https://families.google.com/families

Step 3: Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

Step 4: Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership.

Step 5: When prompted, enter your Turkey address (If needed, use a fake address generator to obtain a random Turkey address) and proceed to pay by debit/credit card (preferedly with no international fees)

Step 6: Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

ISP Notes (Important)

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), free UrbanVPN Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

FAQ

Q: Will I get banned by Google?
A: There’s always a chance, however only a tiny number of people (<5) have actually gotten suspended by Google (see linked previous post in OP). Proceed at your own risk.

Please note the process can be easy for some people, harder for others, or may not work at all.

  • There is no need for aggression in instances where you are unable to subscribe to an international Netflix account. Share your experience so everyone can chip in and help out. There are plenty of examples where hacks shared on this platform do not work for some people, but may work for others:

    • Modem reset for faster internet,
    • Cash back program purchase tracking,
    • Price matching an unobtainable deal or price error,
    • Targeted bargains, and
    • Limited quantity items quickly or instant (bot) sellout.
  • Similarly we know there are cash back users who follow every single step for cash back (turn off ad blocker, have no items in cart, do not click other links, etc.) on their purchases and it does not work, its probably best to move on.There are many users who successfully use this hack and enjoy paying half the price of the Australian membership. Unfortunately there are also many users who have been unable to sign up to Netflix Turkey or Argentina. After all it is intended for people who reside in Turkey or Argentina. If it does not work, I am not affiliated with any of the entities listed below or linked to and cannot guarantee any outcome. I can only read comments on this platform and others to share them with you. Your patience is appreciated. Please do not take it personally.

  • I am getting a blank (white) page when I go to the Tube Premium portal youtube.com/premium) via Indian VPN.
YouTube Music individual subscription page seems to be working as it taking me to the payment page

I did move from Argentina and have an Indian ICCI debit visa card.

I managed to purchase an Indian Individual monthly subscription for INR 129 but it got cancelled.
The card is not the problem as the transaction was authorized properly and I got an email from the bank that reoccurring payments for INR 129 was setup successfully until 2031

It displays YouTube in for India so the VPN is making it show India as the region.

  • took a long time with Windscribe to get to a Turkish IP but even then it wouldnt work, showed up in CA$

ended up using Urban VPN which also took multiple disconnects/connects and then finally worked.

Lets see how long this lasts

    • What's the process once payment is made? I got stuck on a loading screen but I can see the charge on my card. No confirmation email

      • i just got a confirmation email and now when i go to the membership page it shows i’m paying in TRY

I had an active sub so it didnt take money yet

        • Thanks, yeah mine definitely didnt apply to my account, hope that auth on my card expires

  • How do we prove to Youtube that we are a student ? is it a pain or Proof of Enrollment is enough like spotify ?

  • Tried a few different cards but kept getting error so gave up :(

    • +1

Yeah I keep getting "We couldn’t complete this action. Contact us. Learn more [OR_CCREU_06]" very annoying.

      • did notnwork on desktop..but managed to get it through my mobile if that helps.

  • Don't forget to use Youtube music after signing up, it's included

    • Enjoy the "Top 10" Turkish recommendations :-)

      • The recommended shit disappears after awhile if you play your favourites.

        • Yeah, sorry my comment might be read as a neg but isn't and was more that it's funny how we get to see the Top 10 "Turkish" list. As you note, that's not an issue once one populates your own stuff.

      • Lmao mine doesn't do that though

  • I get all the way to payment but get OR-CCSEH-24 error when trying to use VISA debit ? Plea help

  • i tried windscribe extention on chrome and Istanbul shows money as CA$

  • Guys anyone know why I get a blank screen when going to YouTube premium using a VPN?

  • +1

UrbanVPN + Argentina worked with Mastercard. Turkey wouldn’t process payment. 32$AUD+1 month free so works out to be $2.47 a month AUD couple bucks more then Turkey but can’t complain

    • Worked for me too. Thanks!

    • Any extra info, what card exactly, what device?

I think all my cards have been blocked

  • +1

Is there any trick to setting up a family? Do I need to change my google account setting to a particular region? Or just use the VPN and all good?

  • +1

    Thanks for this.
Had no luck using windscribe vpn on my phone but worked with urbanVpn.

Used my mastercard and paid like $23.50 for a year (meh) worth it. Thanks!

    • can u pay yearly upfront?

      • Yes… i paid 23.50ish and have been using youtube premium since. No more ads :)

        • Sorry if this sounds stupid. I dont have experience buying items in overseas currencies. If i just put my debit card into the payment option with a turkey vpn, will my bank automatically convert and then do the transaction? I am with commbank so i am pretty sure its 3% for international.

          Thanks

          • @tonypaloney: I used commbank. It auto converted. Yes.

            • @sirstiv: tysm

            • @sirstiv: Can you post in detail what you did?

Struggling with my commbank card thats new as my india sub is canned and i needed to update card info

              • @Nickwpearce: I did mine based on turkey.
I did it on my phone.
Installed vpn on my phone with mobile data off and Then open youtube website in a private browser and log in.
Then click premium and check the currency.

                Use UrbanVPN.
                Windscribe didn't work for me.

      • Yearly is only avail for personal subscription.

  • My indian premium annual plan expired and nord or surfshark vpn failed. (Nord no more india server, and Surfshark is coming up with GBP pricing)
Moved to Turkey and successfully signed up for an annual plan.
Just joined Surfshark because my 3 year Nord plan expiring, but when using Surshark turkey server, it keeps showing up price in GBP, so i used nord instead and it worked.

Like others, it came up with location as TR but can't put in new address (my payment profile should still be an indian address), wierd but Paid with BOM visa and worked.

Thank you so much, great instructions!

  • Connecting to Turkey via VPN I keep getting a price in NT$ (Taiwan?)

    • I'm getting British pounds - Google thinks I'm located in UK. I tried changing my YT account location to Turkey but that didn't change anything. Whatismyaddress confirms my location as Turkey.

      • @zelliot @pupdog try Urban VPN Chrome extension

        • I tried but got this error message from YouTube:
"We couldn’t verify your country. Please see Help Center for more information."

  • Logged into Turkey with VPN - checked location on whatsmyip and it was showing Istanbul, but then hit a road block.
Went to youtube.com/premium and it was showing "YouTube Premium is not available in your country"
Maybe for the best if the rest of the google accounts will run into issues with Google Play- I'm a iOS user, but some of them aren't?

Curious though if anyone else experienced the "YouTube Premium is not available in your country" message?

    • likely you are still on India, keep trying

mine worked with UrbanVPN after a couple of tries, i tried with Windscribe first with no luck

  • +1

Tried my Torguard VPN on both PC (multiple browsers) and Android phone and got 'We couldn’t verify your country' Tried Urban VPN on both Chrome and Edge on PC and got the same, then i got lucky with Using Urban VPN Android app on phone, Used CItibank Plus Debit Card and all is good.

    • I tried doing it on my phone with UrbanVPN but still only got $ rather than TRY :(

  • +1

THANK YOU for the detailed and wonderful post. Subscribed through Turkey with ease.

  • “Family groups aren’t available for Google Workspace accounts” :(

I have a Google Workspace account.
I am not able to be the family manager, nor someone else can invite me to be in his family group.

  • Hi there, I already set up. Youtube withdraw only 0.08 cent but when I go back to youtube , my youtube still not premium. Anyone please help me out ? Thanks

    • Did you get the Welcome to Youtube Premium Email? If you made a family plan, check to see if the other users are premium

      • I selected the family plan, my son is just normal. No I haven’t received welcome YouTube premium email 😞

  • I have signed up successfully but If i want to invite other users to my family later, would they be able to accept the invite if they go on a VPN Turkey server? I have tried to add someone without a VPN and when they try to accept invite they got the "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager"

    • Was VPN on when you accepted the invitation?

      • I experienced same problem. Turned vpn, tried both on desktop & phone but same message of "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager" appears. Do you recommend any other solution? Thank you.
To be exact, i did your suggestion about 2 weeks ago & it works, but now it does not.

  • +1

Thanks for the guide - and comments. Used Urban VPN on phone (location turned off) with Macquarie card. One free month. Charged 1 lira and 2 lira (8c and 16c) to confirm card and have access. Didn't work on PC with Edge.

  • I got through and successfully signed up under a new account.
Not all family members that were invited accepted right away and now they get an error "can't join family group - it looks like you're not in the same country"

Any possible work around? Help appreciated

    • +1

Was VPN on when you accepted the invitation?

      • +1

No I was accepting from the mobile phone.
Just tried via laptop and accepting with VPN in Turkey and it worked.

Thank you for the suggestion 👌

        • +1

Glad it worked mate. Big thumbs up

  • +1

Finally, I got it! Heard that method a long time ago!

  • Big RIP, account payment suspended and have to do verification

    • eeek! I'm worried about this, especially as my account was last in Argentina. I guess I should be using a new account for this just in case

      • probably a good idea. I never had a foreign payment method on account

    • Did you find a work around the suspend payment profile issue?

  • +1

For a Family plan, Egypt is actually the cheapest (ignoring India for the reasons stated in the OP): 89.99 EGP (4.36 AUD) vs 59.99 TRY (4.62 AUD).

  • Why am I still getting ads after subscribing through Turkey?

    • Make sure you are logged into your account when viewing. While there check it shows the "Premium Logo" (usually top left of browser).

  • I am already on YouTube premium family plan with TRY and trying to set up Google one as well but no luck so far.
Things I have tried already -

    1. Created brand new account and joined existing family.
    2. Added turkey payment profile and added payment method
    3. VPN to Turkey. Verified location reporting as in Turkey
    4. Google one plans still showing in AUD :(
    5. Tried clicking through the price on the hopes of getting them changed to TRY in next steps but getting the error "Something went wrong on our end. Please try again."
    6. Not sure what else to try from here. Already tried doing with existing accounts in the family and they all seem to do the same thing
  • +1

Noted that when you go to payment page, YouTube automatically creates a new turkey payment profile for you. Has this been everyone's experience? Will this impact the Au payment profile?

    Solid write up. Thanks

    • It shouldn't affect, very different to Google One

  • I just switched from my long time India family subscription to Turkey subscription - last 4 months I have been getting failed payments and was unable to change my expired CC as any new card is no longer accepted.I accidentally activated a prepaid individual subscription so I was unable to retain my India subscription.

I also tried Argentina but that also requires a Mastercard or Argentina card.

Steps I did to successfully do this:

Prerequisite Steps (I did this for the India subscription- it may not be required for the Turkey subscription and I didn't have to change India region to Turkey)
    a. Create a new Google account that will be used as the payment account
    b. Set this Google account as a Turkey region/account/payment profile (I used Playstore to switch but may be a way do it on Google)
    c. Set your chosen accounts and other members up in the Family - these accounts region can be set to Australia and won't show Turkey/India trending videos.

    1. UrbanVPN Extension on Chrome,Edge or Firefox, I used Firefox and Chrome when I faced the issue where Youtube Premium page would say 'Could not verify your Country' but what fixed it for me was disconnect and reconnecting a few times, exiting from the page and going back on the page until this message wasn't appearing anymore.

    2. Select Turkey and connect

    3. Go to Youtube.com/premium and select Family subscription.

    4. Use any card/visa, there are no country restrictions.

  • Tried to help a friend with urban VPN and windscribe, BOTH were showing IP address of india (when connected to turkey), but google billing page in Candian Dollars

Was not worth it when VPN do not work

    • Very weird. Others and myself are still able to do it as of current. Not sure what’s wrong with your case :(

      • Edit: seems like the friend had some bloatware on his windows interfering with stuff, as he tried same method on a different device and worked very smoothly, He was quite glad about the trick, and saved a bunch.

  • +1

Finally got this to work using the UrbanVPN Chrome extension - just a heads up, delete this extension straight away! They literally sell your browsing history to the highest bidder. Only used it as ProtonVPN wasn't working for me.

    • Can I ask what error message you got? I'm with Proton too and Google thinks I'm located in Britain.

      • Didn't get any error message, it just seems that the way Proton's DNS servers work is different. Use the UrbanVPN Chrome extension and delete it straight after you're finished. I'd recommend potentially using it in a browser with no other information in it (i.e. history, passwords).

        • Thanks. I ended up using Wisdomtooth's recommended Turkey app - see a few posts below - which worked for me.

  • Any one get banned this time or no issues thus far?

  • This isn't working for me. I've tried:

    • Used Windscribe, Urban VPNs on Edge on computer - get to payment part, then payment window hangs. Get charged $0.08 on my card and no premium
    • Used Windscribe, Urban, PIA on phone, both Chrome and app - get "we couldn't verify your country" or shows in $
    • Can also add:

      • Used Urban VPN on Chrome - see point (1), hangs. Used ING, UBank, and WISE card. All hung

After three attempts it returns "we cannot verify your country".

I'm going to try for Deezer with WISE card instead.

EDIT - Argentina with a Mastercard worked.

  • YouTube vanced no longer working "this content is not available on following app….."

If revanced gets same treatment I'd be left with no option than this

  • So sign in ok but i cant put in address the space goes blank :(

    • +1

if so just proceed without a address

      • That's what I did. I gen'd the address, but didn't need it.

  • Does this impact what music is available on Youtube Music?
Certainly impacted available music on Tribal and Spotify, so would like to confirm before proceeding.

    • no

  • I accidentally paid for the individual one which is for 12 months.
is there a way to upgrade or change it to the monthly family plan?? =(

    • No. well not without losing the year. You could perhaps request cancellation of personal and credit put towards monthly family. There is no yearly family plan. The question is how good your Turkish is when chatting to them :-)

      • -4

Just a heads up that this is certainly a joke, and not actual advice. Reaching out to YouTube will result in a ban.

        • +2

Not a joke at all. I’ve contacted Google many times to refund my Turkey subscriptions during the testing stages for Google One (which is how I come up with these guides) and they always done it no questions asked. My accounts are all still standing.

  • I be tried couple of time with Surf Shark vpn even I have used WireGuard. Even though, I was not able to get India or Turkey subscription. Is it because of previous user which was expired on 27th March?
All the card is not working even I tried my wife card. It always stuck at the bottom bad of the payment detail. Any other way to get YouTube subscription as well as Netflix/Amazon.

    Thanking in advance.

  • +5

As with others, Surfshark failed for me on this (showing £ instead of ₺). I used this app instead, which I picked randomly from "Turkey VPN" top results (by score and downloads) from Google Play.

    • thanks, worked for me with St George visa card - family plan

    • Thanks. This worked for me too.

  • I'm confused. I bought a family plan for a year. payment worked. however family members cant use it ? only myself? when i bought the family option 299.99

    • I didn't think Family plans are available as annual subscription, are you sure it was family……and for a year? 299 is for the personal.

      • ah i'm such an idiot. that would make sense. so you have to select family monthly while in turkey? mhm guess i need to try and refund it lol

        • I did the same! trying to get a refund. Did you get anywhere with this?

  • Hello - I messed up! Can anyone help?
I was able to sign up fine, but realised I signed up for the annual individual plan and not the family plan!! I cant seem to change the plan settings :(

    • There is no method other than cancelling your plan. You would need to contact their support. See above note.
Perhaps ask @chikolicous above to see how they went?

      • Thnks. @chikolicious how did you go? I am going round and round in circles on the YouTube help page to see how you can cancel/get a refund. all the documentation points to cancelling a monthly membership but not the annual one

        • +1

Hey Dynamic, sorry for the late reply. I was able a full refund from customer support team. I reached out to the live support team. You do not require to be VPN to contact support team , being in AU is fine.

  • Got 12 months to work just now.

    Using the following on iOS

    • Urban VPN for iOS (Free week trial, will cancel) in Instanbul, Turkey confirmed via What is my IP.
    • YouTube Mobile via Chrome.
    • Mastercard through UP Bank.

First attempted to do the exact same thing but on PC and would hang on payment. Firefox w/ Urban VPN using VISA and Mastercard had a payment error.

Thanks to Argent Q for the suggestion of using Youtube Mobile!
