Welcome to the Ultimate Guide of Youtube Premium Subscriptions via Turkey

Where were we? Ahhhh… yes… we're back again, after 6 months, except this time with an upgraded guide. Most of you should be on this subscription already, but for those who are new or haven't yet hopped on the bandwagon, here's a reminder that it exists :)

After Google increased the prices for Youtube Premium in several countries worldwide late 2022, including USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Japan (etc), we have the following facts:

  • Argentina is no longer the cheapest country to sign up from after being the go-to for years (now ARS 389 / A$2.67 for Individual plans and ARS 699 / A$4.80 for Family plans). Further, they have changed the way they take payments and so many Australian debit and credit cards no longer work for Argentina.
  • India is now the cheapest country to sign up from, although subscribing to the Youtube Premium (Family) plan is almost impossible given India's new laws around payments and now requires a local Indian payment method, something most of us do not have access to. Youtube Premium (Individual) should still be doable using ExpressVPN.
  • Turkey is now the second cheapest and easiest country to sign up from (just under 10 cents more than India)

Since last deal, most OzBargainers have migrated from Argentina to other countries (majorily Turkey). If you tried to sign up to a Youtube Premium Family via India, you probably hit a dead end, with most cards ending up declining due to this reason and this reason. Well if that is the case, hopefully Youtube Premium via Turkey will be a breeze, especially for those who have Google One via Turkey already (confirmed working for me, you will not need to enter a new address and it took me like 30 seconds to sign up to Youtube Premium Family).

Note: You DO NOT need to change your region to subscribe to YouTube Premium (Turkey). Unlike Google One which requires a region change to an extent, security for Youtube Premium is not as tight as Google One. Simply log into your main account, use a Turkish VPN and sign up YouTube Premium.

Available Plans via Turkey:

For price references, Youtube Premium via Australia is $8.99/mth for student plans, $14.99/mth for individual plans & $22.99/mth for family plans

You can subscribe to either a monthly plan or an annual plan.

Monthly Plans

Youtube Plan TR Pricing (AUD Conversion) AU Pricing Savings (% Saving) Notes

Family TRY ₺59.99 (~A$4.60) A$22.99 A$18.39 (79.99%) 6 spots, no brainer

Annual Plans

Storage Plan TR Pricing (AUD Conversion) AU Pricing Savings (% Saving) Notes
Individual TRY ₺299 (~A$22.93) N/A N/A Not available in AU, hence can't compare prices

Please read the following instructions carefully. I've tested it on iPhone and PC (windows), so here's my experience - and it took literally minutes.

Instructions (No Current Subscription)

Note: If you're signing up for a family plan, best to add your Australia family members / accounts into a family group BEFORE signing up, otherwise you may get the following error: "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager". To add family members, go to: https://families.google.com/families

Step 1: Add any family members to your Google Family Group (if needed): https://families.google.com/families

Step 2: Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

Step 3: Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership.

Step 4: When prompted, enter your Turkey address (If needed, use a fake address generator to obtain a random Turkey address) and proceed to pay by debit/credit card (preferedly with no international fees)

Step 5: Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

Instructions (Transferring from a different country)

Note: If you're signing up for a family plan, best to add your Australia family members / accounts into a family group BEFORE signing up, otherwise you may get the following error: "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager". To add family members, go to: https://families.google.com/families

Step 1: Go to https://m.youtube.com/paid_memberships and click on your current subscription. Click “manage” then continue to cancel. Once cancelled, the current subscription will continue until the end of the billing period. But you now have an option to resubscribe back to Youtube Premium

Step 2: Add any family members to your Google Family Group (if needed): https://families.google.com/families

Step 3: Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

Step 4: Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership.

Step 5: When prompted, enter your Turkey address (If needed, use a fake address generator to obtain a random Turkey address) and proceed to pay by debit/credit card (preferedly with no international fees)

Step 6: Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

ISP Notes (Important)

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), free UrbanVPN Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

FAQ

Q: Will I get banned by Google?
A: There’s always a chance, however only a tiny number of people (<5) have actually gotten suspended by Google (see linked previous post in OP). Proceed at your own risk.

Please note the process can be easy for some people, harder for others, or may not work at all.

  • There is no need for aggression in instances where you are unable to subscribe to an international Netflix account. Share your experience so everyone can chip in and help out. There are plenty of examples where hacks shared on this platform do not work for some people, but may work for others:

    • Modem reset for faster internet,
    • Cash back program purchase tracking,
    • Price matching an unobtainable deal or price error,
    • Targeted bargains, and
    • Limited quantity items quickly or instant (bot) sellout.
  • Similarly we know there are cash back users who follow every single step for cash back (turn off ad blocker, have no items in cart, do not click other links, etc.) on their purchases and it does not work, its probably best to move on.There are many users who successfully use this hack and enjoy paying half the price of the Australian membership. Unfortunately there are also many users who have been unable to sign up to Netflix Turkey or Argentina. After all it is intended for people who reside in Turkey or Argentina. If it does not work, I am not affiliated with any of the entities listed below or linked to and cannot guarantee any outcome. I can only read comments on this platform and others to share them with you. Your patience is appreciated. Please do not take it personally.

But can I still use YouTube premium in Australia?

Recently one of the members under my family plan went to India and stayed there for 4 months, he lost his access to YouTube premium due to his location.

  • So my account is currently on a India family plan, since I did it, it thinks my account is based in India so kinda wrecks things with anything else google based & requiring to be in Australia (e.g. chromecast iview, Kayo etc).

Anyone know what would I need to do to fix this? I’ll probably have to update my card details soon anyway, so probably a good time to sort it all out.

    • Unfortunately that's the drawback here. Easiest solution is to have 2 Google accounts. 1 for YouTube and another based in Australia for say your banking apps, etc. I've found that's the easiest way.

      • I have 2 like yours.

      • So would you create an google gmail account for this (Turkey) and then add your primary account (Aust) to family members under it or will it just turn your primary into being in Turkey?

        • You can't have Google accounts in different regions in the same 'family' so whichever one you choose to be Aussie in would have to stay out. If you're using a sub-account for YouTube, there is a way to transfer that to another account. That way you'll keep your channel and watch history etc.

          • @neverpayfullretail: I have my kids I wife sharing the YouTube premium account & I think iview works on the chromecast under their logins.

Not a huge deal either way though.

  • I pay $4.70 a month for my Turkey one

    • It fluctuates each month. Like 2 days ago it was $4.58, now $4.62 etc

Urban vpn from play store and cba mastercard works for me and didnt need to enter address.

  • +2

My location is Turkey. Checked on whatismyip.
    Using Windscribe.
    The price says CA$11.99.
I think thats Canadian dollars. :( how to resolve!?!

      • Might want to clear the cookies as they may store your location then refresh the page while connecting to the VPN.
      • Try Urban VPN extension.
  • I use smart tube and new pipe. There is a basis to pay so I can move to paying the turkey youtube later

  • It won't let me type any billing address and only show up Turkey TR on the credit card page. and payment won't go through. Anyone has the same issue?

    • +1

Try changing the browser or going incognito

    • +1

If you are encountering the OR-CCSEH-24 error (payment error), this is what works for me:

      1. Sign in to your Google Payments account at https://payments.google.com
      2. Select the "Payment methods" tab
      3. Add a card that should works for international transaction

If you already have a subscription/payment method, it may be worthwhile changing the address using a random address generator for Turkey.

Then hard refresh the credit card page and try again.

  • Everytime i try this, google ends up suspending my payment profile and i have to do ID verfication again. even tried with new email address with Commank CC as payment method

    • Did you find a work around the suspend payment profile issue?

  • The notes say "anyone in the family can sign up to Google One and share it with the rest of the family."

Is this also the case with YouTube Premium? How does a family member share with everyone if they are not the family manager?

    • +1

Yes, as long as anyone in the family purchases the subscription, everyone in the family has access

      • Are you sure? One of my member accounts has a family account but the family doesn't have access yet. Is there a setting that needs to change?

      • I'll also add I've successfully shared Google One as one of the sub-members, but the non-manager turkey YT family sub is not sharing to the other accounts in the family group.

Has anyone had any success having a non-family manager share the youtube subscription? I have scoured previous threads+reddit and can't find anything to suggest either way other than this post.

        EDIT:
I've only found reddit threads that state to the contrary, and only place I can find that it works through any family member is in the original post here. Think I might have screwed myself a bit here?

      • Not exactly currently I think, I tried that with a family member account and it prompted me to ask the family manager to purchase the plan.

If you expand and check the 'Family Manager requirements' section at this link:
        https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7507349?hl=en#zipp…

Could be working previously? Where someone has the plan before joining the family group?

After i fill in CC details, the billing address prefills with "Türkiye (TR)" and wont let me edit/manually enter an address. Is there where im meant to enter my random generated address? After clicking purchase, i get the error "Your transaction can't be completed. To continue this transaction, secure your account. Learn more about securing accounts [OR-REH-04]".

Is this address related, or my card not being accepted like others?

    • +4

Hey mate, this happened to me. Try switching browsers and trying again. I tried 5 cards on chrome, none of them worked and all gave me this error.

First card I tried on Firefox went through.

      • thanks mate that worked.

      • Cheers mate, this worked for me too!

      • Cheers! Lifesaver!

    • +1

Same happened to me, only showed Türkiye (TR) in the address box but couldn't edit anything. I just clicked purchase button and went through without any issues with ING orange card for family plan. For reference, I did this with newly created account via incognito using NordVPN.

  • Anyone get 28 Degrees working?

    • I did without any issue yesterday. Turned on NordVPN to turkey, went to payment page, signed up. I was in India before. Individual plan

  • I have TRY working on Urban VPN, the only issue is there isn't an option for family for me. It only shows 'Annual TRY 299.99, Monthly TRY 29.99 & Student TRY 19.49'.

I've set up google family (with my account as the Family manager) and 5 others have been successfully invited.

Anyone know what the issue is?

  • Had hell with Urban VPN + Chrome. Tried Urban VPN + Edge and worked immediately!

Why are people paying for Youtube Premium? The content isn't paywalled; it is available to free users. Just use a free browser AdBlocker to remove the annoying, time wasting capitalist propaganda.

    • people who want to use the app on mobile phones

      • +1

SmartTube can be installed(sideload) on an Android smartphone, large screen preferred. The user interface may need to be adjusted for a better experience as the App is made for TV.

I know others mentioned Smart Tube Next which is another App.

        • Youtube on mobile and youtube music

    • +4

i'd rather just pay the $4.60 and not have to use a third party app.

Changed over from India Youtube Family to Turkey Youtube Family account successfully following OP instructions using Urban VPN+Edge. Thanks OP.

  • Am paying $3.59 for YouTube India family account, looks like this more expensive?

    • Yeah. I'm in the same boat (India YT Premium), this is likely for those who got caught in the price creep of other regions or couldn't get another country account sorted out before sign up requirements changed or VPNs moved out. If for some reason I can't get my cards to work or there's some additional verification for India, I'd probably jump ship to Turkey too. Still a better deal that Oz and the US prices I was grandfathered to way back when this was called Red.

  • I used Hola VPN to get this to work as per peoples recommendation in the last quide.

Kinda regret as I've noticed a lot of people don't recommend them due to data breaches.

Anything I can do to disable/delete the hola account?

    • Burn your device. That's the only way

    For couples
    2x Annual Plans (2x 22.93= $45.86) is cheaper than the family plan (4.6 X 12= $55.2)

  • Pretty sure I got a deal last year for 1 year of YouTube Premium via India. Expires on 27 October. Will I be able to renew it?

  • +1

Oddly, i cant get my vpn to connect to turkey (yes tried urban vpn too and landed in india)
Oddly, i managed to get premium via india too and paid with ING.
Thanks for the detailed step by step OP!

  • Hey guys need help! I used windscribe vpn to connect to Turkey but YouTube premium sign up says that I’m in Canada and shows price in C$.

Should I use any other free VPN?

    Thanks.

    • +1

You're on OZbargain. You should/must have a NordVPN account for 4% of the price. Wait for the next deal

    • @smaniaus2 try Urban VPN Chrome extension. Otherwise please send me a PM

  • +1

Heaps easy, jumped on NordVPN and connected to Turkey, made the payment with my Up card and now I have a year of Premium for $23.37! Thanks OP :)

    • Is your google account now have turkey based apps?

      • No

      • They just create a new payment profile. It is really just as easy as that.

  • +1

With IP confirmed in Turkey I consistently get pricing for Canada.
Using Windscribe. Have refreshed multiple times on both mobile and desktop.
    Help please.

    • -1

      It's normal, they've got a common border.

    • Ditto and Taiwan pricing I think

  • +1

I tried Windscribe as suggested by OP, the IP is showing I have landed in Istanbul in Turkey but my Youtube page kept showing CA $11.99. I have turned on , off at least 10 times. But no change.
    Help please.@I Smell Pennies

    • @rayraywangy can you send me a PM please?

  • Windscribe did not work for me despite switching on and off for like 10 times. Tried Urban VPN, did not work for the first time then off and on once, it worked.

  • If I make a new google account and then add myself and my family to the Google Family Group, for the small chance that you can get banned, will Google ban the new account I made as family manager, or will it ban all accounts?

    • +1

No-one can promise anything. Risk of ban is low, but the risk is there, and a ban of all accounts is within that risk. I'd say it's a degree of risk less, so that's what I've done.

  • I manage to get the pricing and IP right. But when I pay, it says Your transaction can't be completed. To continue this transaction, secure your account. Learn more about securing accounts [OR-REH-04]

    • Look at some comments in the old thread. The instructions are not complete for those switching from Argentina to Turkey

  • This worked for me. I used Urban VPN and checked where I landed using whatismyipaddress.com. It took a few on/off cycles before it actually landed in Turkey. This is captured in the instructions of course. Thanks to I Smell Pennies!

    • So you clicked try it now and paid with no issue? I got to the payment page but will not let me pay. It says
Your transaction can't be completed. To continue this transaction, secure your account. Learn more about securing accounts [OR-REH-04]

  • What's the benefit of this over just using Ublock? I do not get any ads, and it is free.

    • You can play videos outside the app. Also get access to YouTube music, library is synced to it aswell.

  • Great post. Thanks for sharing.
I'm keen to sign up but I have heaps of videos saved to my Playlist.
Will my Playlist transfer over when I sign up, or will they be lost if I use the same email/account?
    Thanks

    • +1

They carry over if same account. You can use YouTube music for playlists aswell.

      • Thanks for taking the time to respond 😀

  • I did this 6 months ago and couldn't be happier, enjoying it with the misso, I do have one question tho, next year my card expires, do I have to go through the process again since I have to change details such as expiry date? :)

  • won't be long before Argentina is cheapest again with their 100% inflation

  • Guys, managed to get VPN to work but when it comes to the payment page. It stays on the blank white page with a loading circle. Any idea?

    • After you've entered your card info? Same for me, stuck on loading screen, and my card was charged the 23 bucks

      • I am trying this now and have ended up in the same situation. Card was charged but no subscription applied. Was the pending charge cancelled or were you SOL?

        • +1

The transaction didn't clear, disappeared after a few days

    • Same here, was using 28degree.

  • Truly amazing. Thanks for the guide

  • Anyone have luck sharing the family subscription with others in their family group, when the purchasing account is not the family manager?

  • Sigh.

Couldn't get it to work using Chrome, Edge or Firefox with either Urban or Windscribe.

Firefox gave me the "Couldn't verify your country".

    Windscribe didn't work at all.

UrbanVPN worked but when it came to payment it wouldn't process using either a Mastercard or Suncorp credit card.

    • Try with NordVPN on your phone? That's what I did (Android)

      • Nope :(

        Oh well.

    • Same here, UrbanVPN worked and showed TRY but payment wouldn't process on either Edge or Chrome after I entered my card details, I'm using 28degree btw.

  • Hello,

I am unsure whether this has been covered.

Has anyone gotten issues with inviting members into the youtube family plans?

I made one in Malaysia and somehow could only successfully invite Australian based email address's, whilst Malaysian email addresses would always pop up with errors.

Same with Spotify, but opposite countries, I have a Malaysia family plan too, but cannot add any Australian email addresses.

Any help is much appreciated thanks!

  • WARNING:
I think the OP is incorrect in saying you can sign up as a family member. I can't find any cases of it working, it's not working for me, and there's mention in the FAQ on google somewhere that the family manager must sign up.
It works for Google One but doesn't seem to for youtube.

The big negative of this is that all family member's Google play stores will be located in Turkey. This will mean there are quite a few apps you will be unable to download. I've had my membership working for ages but just tried to migrate family groups because I read this was possible. @I Smell Pennies I think you should remove this from the post unless there's actual confirmation of this working for anyone somehow.

This basically means there is likely no workaround for having Australian apps on android if you want youtube premium on your main account.

    • Hey I’m currently on a fishing trip and have removed it to avoid any confusion. I’ll fix my post when I get home

Also I’ll reply to anyone else later after my trip thanks

      • +2

        No prob, enjoy!

Also, just saw your comment somewhere else that may be helpful to others - have a completely unconnected Australian account on your device, and use that to download apps. There are likely still some issues with having a Turkey account, but that may workaround for some issues people face with being stuck in Turkey region.

        • If I use a second account for only this deal and add my main account as a family member will that work, meaning main account will be AU play store and second acc which I don't really care about have TUR play store

          • +1

@Ozb101: Yep. You can have the family manager sign up to Turkey Youtube Premium Family plan, then all users who are family members will have premium, but also the Turkey play store.

The fix for the Turkey play store for Google One was for a member to have a Turkey sub, but the manager to be Australian, but that doesn't seem to apply to YouTube.

I'm unclear if there's any sort of fix to have the family manager as an Australian, but still have Turkey YT Premium. I certainly can't get it to work.

            • @snoopydoop: Thanks for the detailed response.

That's no good about all accounts end up having TUR play store. I'm assume people just put up with it as they don't use the play store that muc?

              • @Ozb101: Yeah, or iOS users!

It's only caused a problem a few times for me, eg. Metro60 or Tidal I couldn't download

      • Hi, were you able to find any work around for this. In the same situation as @snoopydoop. Had my membership working for a while with Turkish account as family manager and a side Au account for download apps.
I then created a new family group from my main Au account after quitting the previous family group. I've now learnt that family members can't share YT premium and only the family manager can.

  • Wanted family but couple friends not interested, no one here offering, cant be bothered to join individual so at the end installed revanced. 5mins all done

    • If nobody is interested, then the individual yearly plan is TRY ₺299 (~A$22.93) which is only approx $1.91 per month. Saves the hassle of worrying about or managing others & still a bargain.

      • Yeah probably that why no one bother setup family. And not about $, see many ppl here spent hours to register with failed payment etc, 5mins revanced should do for now.

        • Luck of the draw I suspect. I sorted mine (Individual) 6 months ago in perhaps 20mins from A-Z following the instructions. Luckily no issues for me using Nord as VPN, Wise card as payment. I started from scratch and works well.
