Welcome to the Ultimate Guide of Youtube Premium Subscriptions via Turkey

Where were we? Ahhhh… yes… we're back again, after 6 months, except this time with an upgraded guide. Most of you should be on this subscription already, but for those who are new or haven't yet hopped on the bandwagon, here's a reminder that it exists :)

After Google increased the prices for Youtube Premium in several countries worldwide late 2022, including USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Japan (etc), we have the following facts:

  • Argentina is no longer the cheapest country to sign up from after being the go-to for years (now ARS 389 / A$2.67 for Individual plans and ARS 699 / A$4.80 for Family plans). Further, they have changed the way they take payments and so many Australian debit and credit cards no longer work for Argentina.
  • India is now the cheapest country to sign up from, although subscribing to the Youtube Premium (Family) plan is almost impossible given India's new laws around payments and now requires a local Indian payment method, something most of us do not have access to. Youtube Premium (Individual) should still be doable using ExpressVPN.
  • Turkey is now the second cheapest and easiest country to sign up from (just under 10 cents more than India)

Since last deal, most OzBargainers have migrated from Argentina to other countries (majorily Turkey). If you tried to sign up to a Youtube Premium Family via India, you probably hit a dead end, with most cards ending up declining due to this reason and this reason. Well if that is the case, hopefully Youtube Premium via Turkey will be a breeze, especially for those who have Google One via Turkey already (confirmed working for me, you will not need to enter a new address and it took me like 30 seconds to sign up to Youtube Premium Family).

Note: You DO NOT need to change your region to subscribe to YouTube Premium (Turkey). Unlike Google One which requires a region change to an extent, security for Youtube Premium is not as tight as Google One. Simply log into your main account, use a Turkish VPN and sign up YouTube Premium.

Available Plans via Turkey:

For price references, Youtube Premium via Australia is $8.99/mth for student plans, $14.99/mth for individual plans & $22.99/mth for family plans

Please read the following instructions carefully. I've tested it on iPhone and PC (windows), so here's my experience - and it took literally minutes.

Instructions (No Current Subscription)

Note: If you're signing up for a family plan, best to add your Australia family members / accounts into a family group BEFORE signing up, otherwise you may get the following error: "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager". To add family members, go to: https://families.google.com/families

Step 1: Add any family members to your Google Family Group (if needed): https://families.google.com/families

Step 2: Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

Step 3: Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership.

Step 4: When prompted, enter your Turkey address (If needed, use a fake address generator to obtain a random Turkey address) and proceed to pay by debit/credit card (preferedly with no international fees)

Step 5: Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

Instructions (Transferring from a different country)

Step 1: Go to https://m.youtube.com/paid_memberships and click on your current subscription. Click “manage” then continue to cancel. Once cancelled, the current subscription will continue until the end of the billing period. But you now have an option to resubscribe back to Youtube Premium

Step 2: Add any family members to your Google Family Group (if needed): https://families.google.com/families

Step 3: Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

Step 4: Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership.

Step 6: Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

ISP Notes (Important)

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), free UrbanVPN Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

FAQ

Q: Will I get banned by Google?
A: There’s always a chance, however only a tiny number of people (<5) have actually gotten suspended by Google (see linked previous post in OP). Proceed at your own risk.

Please note the process can be easy for some people, harder for others, or may not work at all.

  • There is no need for aggression in instances where you are unable to subscribe to an international Netflix account. Share your experience so everyone can chip in and help out. There are plenty of examples where hacks shared on this platform do not work for some people, but may work for others:

    • Modem reset for faster internet,
    • Cash back program purchase tracking,
    • Price matching an unobtainable deal or price error,
    • Targeted bargains, and
    • Limited quantity items quickly or instant (bot) sellout.
  • Similarly we know there are cash back users who follow every single step for cash back (turn off ad blocker, have no items in cart, do not click other links, etc.) on their purchases and it does not work, its probably best to move on.There are many users who successfully use this hack and enjoy paying half the price of the Australian membership. Unfortunately there are also many users who have been unable to sign up to Netflix Turkey or Argentina. After all it is intended for people who reside in Turkey or Argentina. If it does not work, I am not affiliated with any of the entities listed below or linked to and cannot guarantee any outcome. I can only read comments on this platform and others to share them with you. Your patience is appreciated. Please do not take it personally.

  • My youtube premium turkey expired recently. And tried to resubscribe but they don't accept my payment method now :( I managed to get up to payment page then all cards declined due to the country. Any workaround for this? Thanks.

    • Only way for YT Turkey now is use Turkey apple account and sign up with Turkey apple gift card. (See page 8 or 9 here ) otherwise try different countries.

Spent way longer than I care to admit, but finally got it to work.

Initially tried Turkey, then Ukraine via Windscribe & UrbanVPN. My card (tried multiple) would just spin around, never authorise or progress.

Read more of the comments here and found Pakistan was the best value, so I changed to that, used a fake address etc.

Card still had issues though. What got it over the line was on the final pay page, but before I hit pay and have it spin around constantly, was to turn off all VPN's, and payment went through immediately using PKR.

On my free trial, so I can't confirm it's going to go through as that, but may account page, with all VPN's off, is showing a PKR subscription.

    • this worked incredibly well. Thanks for the tip mate.

    • mine still spins around constantly after I click pay even turn off the VPN

  • According to this reddit thread, Google has started banning people who bought YT Premium through Turkey. Has anyone got their account suspended?

    • No issues with mine.

My one year membership expired today and cannot renew at all.

Yep I had issues renewing too

Can confirm working via Pakistan, UrbanVPN extension on Firefox, Revolut virtual card, random Paki address.

You POTENTIALLY need to turn off the vpn before clicking 'Save Card', but I'm not 100% sure.

Paid the Pak sub (2.63) but not getting youtube premium.
Youtube page showing inactive youtube premium sub, but google payment centre (Subscription and services) says there is a premium sub active. No idea what's going on.

  • Pakistan worked for me. Funnily enough this time i did it all through a private tab with Urban VPN on the phone. Hardest part was having to drop the vpn so my phone would notify me to accept the sign in.

  • +2

Can confirm working via Pakistan, UrbanVPN on Android Youtube app, accepted 28Degrees Card, with one month free, first payment to go in Dec. Used the VPN to bring the Pakistan price up on Youtube app and then disconnected to submit CC details with Address.

  • Confirmed working via UrbanVPN on mobile app using Pakistan. Turn off VPN before proceeding with 'Save Card'.

  • Surfshark VPN and connected to Ukraine. Used my Wise card and subscribed no problem.

Is Pakistan the cheapest at the moment? I can migrate to Pakistan in a month I guess?

  • When I try to make the payment via the web page from my smartphone it gives me the following error "Transaction refused. This purchase requires a payment method issued in the billing country. [OR_RECR_05].
Could you help me? I also tried from the app but it doesn't work

    Anyone found an annual one?

    • Was hoping the same, the last annual just expired today.. :/

  • +6

used the UrbanVPN method on iPhone and worked a treat.
    1. dl UrbanVPN and activate for free week (cancel once used)
    2. connect to YouTube through private tab in Safari
    3. go to membership and select Individual 479PKR
    4. go to add payment and entered my ING card. Used a random address generator to find address in Pakistan.
    5. BEFORE pressing Add Card, switch app to UrbanVPN and tap pause
    6. back to Safari and tap Add Card and it confirmed that it was successful.

equates to roughly AUD$2.61/month. Great work, everyone!

Thank you, just did this on a family plan and it worked :).

    • I'll try as soon as I get home

    • +1

      Thanks, works.

I've (seemingly) succeeded in with a combination of my Up card and UrbanVPN on Android. 899PKR in my subscriptions.

I'm now a resident of the Australian High Commission in Islamabad for billing purposes, the same way Google is a Bermudan business for tax purposes.

    • +1

I used the same method but used Iran's consulate address in Islamabad, which is right across the Aussie's one. I didn't want Youtube to think that we're using fake addresses since you've already occupied the Australian one. ;p

  • Payment for my Turkish family subscription with Oldubil card was declined this month and our premium ended yesterday. Just re-subbed using NordVPN to Ukraine on android phone and CBA credit card via the app and it went through perfectly. 149 UHA / $6.36 AUD for family. Now to find a way to use the remaining lira on my Oldubil card…

    • You subscribed to Turkey or Pakistan?

  • Managed to get it to work just like many of the others through UrbanVPN/Firefox, using a NAB Visa Debit.

    • Is that Turkey sub?

  • Looks like I'll be flying from Istanbul to Islamabad later this month

  • I tried urban vpn and Pakistan. Turned off VPN before save card, still get spin. Refreshed web, card is saved, tried to order again, asked to verify code, and spin still. ( I think by that time my card should been charged pending, but I didn't know). I thought maybe because of VPN, so I did that again with VPN on, still spin. Checked card, I had 2 transactions pending now. My YouTube premium is still inactive. But the subscription page shows 2 YouTube premium subscriptions active. I can not cancel any of those subs, also no access to the premium. What a mess. I will wait and see.

    • I had the same issues bcos I had made Pak payment profile in advance with a card attached. Remove/delete the card.

Go to youtube to purchase premium with vpn on.
A new window should pop up to add in card details (and Pak address if you haven't set up one already.)

Put in the details then turn off vpn before saving card,

      • Payment didn't go through. So I went with Ukraine. No issue.

Successfully purchased from Pakistan after the annual plan (Turkey approx. $24) expired yesterday.

*** Tried to do it in the Youtube app on my Android phone but failed as it still shows TRY when connecting to Pakistan. So I did it on my PC.***

    1. Download Urban VPN & FireFox (I didn't have) and connect to Pakistan.
    2. Log in to Youtube account in FireFox and go to Youtube Premium page. It should show the prices in PKR. (I purchased monthly individual plan which is PKR 479 = $2.56 AUD)
    3. Choose your plan and click purchase, a new page pops up to enter card details and address. Get a fake address in Parkistan. (DO NOT SAVE CARD YET)
    4. Turn off VPN and click SAVE CARD, then the purchase should go through. (I used the spare Suncorp debit card with no issue)

Checked the transaction and shows $2.56AUD pending.

    Hope this helps.

    • Thanks legend. Had issues with it last month trying to subscribe after my turkey expired managed to work it with this!

    • Thanks. Looks like it worked fine with a CBA card. The first month is free, so will check what I get charged after a month.
BTW, Urban VPN Win doesn't have Pakistan listed. Used CyberGhost to fly there.

  • Does anyone know a VPN that will connect to Turkey? My Membership ended for some reason.
