Welcome to the Ultimate Guide of Youtube Premium Subscriptions via Turkey

Where were we? Ahhhh… yes… we're back again, after 6 months, except this time with an upgraded guide. Most of you should be on this subscription already, but for those who are new or haven't yet hopped on the bandwagon, here's a reminder that it exists :)

After Google increased the prices for Youtube Premium in several countries worldwide late 2022, including USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Japan (etc), we have the following facts:

  • Argentina is no longer the cheapest country to sign up from after being the go-to for years (now ARS 389 / A$2.67 for Individual plans and ARS 699 / A$4.80 for Family plans). Further, they have changed the way they take payments and so many Australian debit and credit cards no longer work for Argentina.
  • India is now the cheapest country to sign up from, although subscribing to the Youtube Premium (Family) plan is almost impossible given India's new laws around payments and now requires a local Indian payment method, something most of us do not have access to. Youtube Premium (Individual) should still be doable using ExpressVPN.
  • Turkey is now the second cheapest and easiest country to sign up from (just under 10 cents more than India)

Since last deal, most OzBargainers have migrated from Argentina to other countries (majorily Turkey). If you tried to sign up to a Youtube Premium Family via India, you probably hit a dead end, with most cards ending up declining due to this reason and this reason. Well if that is the case, hopefully Youtube Premium via Turkey will be a breeze, especially for those who have Google One via Turkey already (confirmed working for me, you will not need to enter a new address and it took me like 30 seconds to sign up to Youtube Premium Family).

Note: You DO NOT need to change your region to subscribe to YouTube Premium (Turkey). Unlike Google One which requires a region change to an extent, security for Youtube Premium is not as tight as Google One. Simply log into your main account, use a Turkish VPN and sign up YouTube Premium.

Please read the following instructions carefully. I've tested it on iPhone and PC (windows), so here's my experience - and it took literally minutes.

Instructions (No Current Subscription)

Note: If you're signing up for a family plan, best to add your Australia family members / accounts into a family group BEFORE signing up, otherwise you may get the following error: "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager". To add family members, go to: https://families.google.com/families

Step 1: Add any family members to your Google Family Group (if needed): https://families.google.com/families

Step 2: Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

Step 3: Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership.

Step 4: When prompted, enter your Turkey address (If needed, use a fake address generator to obtain a random Turkey address) and proceed to pay by debit/credit card (preferedly with no international fees)

Step 5: Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

Instructions (Transferring from a different country)

Note: If you're signing up for a family plan, best to add your Australia family members / accounts into a family group BEFORE signing up, otherwise you may get the following error: "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager". Step 1: Go to https://m.youtube.com/paid_memberships and click on your current subscription. Click “manage” then continue to cancel. Once cancelled, the current subscription will continue until the end of the billing period. But you now have an option to resubscribe back to Youtube Premium

Step 2: Add any family members to your Google Family Group (if needed): https://families.google.com/families

Step 3: Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

Step 4: Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership.

Step 5: When prompted, enter your Turkey address (If needed, use a fake address generator to obtain a random Turkey address) and proceed to pay by debit/credit card (preferedly with no international fees)

ISP Notes (Important)

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), free UrbanVPN Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

FAQ

Q: Will I get banned by Google?
A: There’s always a chance, however only a tiny number of people (<5) have actually gotten suspended by Google (see linked previous post in OP). Proceed at your own risk.

Please note the process can be easy for some people, harder for others, or may not work at all.

  • There is no need for aggression in instances where you are unable to subscribe to an international Netflix account. Share your experience so everyone can chip in and help out. There are plenty of examples where hacks shared on this platform do not work for some people, but may work for others:

    • Modem reset for faster internet,
    • Cash back program purchase tracking,
    • Price matching an unobtainable deal or price error,
    • Targeted bargains, and
    • Limited quantity items quickly or instant (bot) sellout.

  • Similarly we know there are cash back users who follow every single step for cash back (turn off ad blocker, have no items in cart, do not click other links, etc.) on their purchases and it does not work, its probably best to move on.There are many users who successfully use this hack and enjoy paying half the price of the Australian membership. Unfortunately there are also many users who have been unable to sign up to Netflix Turkey or Argentina. After all it is intended for people who reside in Turkey or Argentina.     Argh, can't get family to work. Been on India for the past few years until my credit card expired. Keep getting payment not getting through for India and now turkey too. Closes I got was a payment declined showing up on Google pay activities. I've tried 6 credit cards (wise, 28 degrees, bank West, Crypto.com, big pay (Malaysia), revolut)and hola, urban VPN, fastest VPN, turkey secure VPN. Always sets my credit card to turkey for the address. Tried creating a turkey pay profile and adding the cards manually with AU address, but youtube premium doesn't show the payment methods. Only to to enter a new card. Any suggestions?

        Bit silly leaving friends "before" sorting your own (lesson learned I would think) :-)

        Don't give up though as it does work. Take a breather and start from scratch when the head is cleared.
        Tip: Make a To Do list with the required steps. Double check them before beginning. Mark off each step as you do it, checking all is well after each one and before proceeding to next one.
        That can assist with saving the hassle if one misses one step or for example rushes and forgets to double check VPN is "actually" connected to Turkey. Proceeding without checking can cause the next step to fail.

        Sidenote: I am no suggesting that you stuffed up and only noting not to give up. Monitoring your own taken steps at least allows one to revise what was done in the past to save repeating on next attempt…..

      Ok, after trying Argentina (same issue) ended up setting family plan with Philippines and debit card (visa) worked first time.

    Hi, can I pls get some advise as I'm having trouble making payment.

    I'm creating a new family subscription via Turkey and it takes me all the way to payment (it didn't ask me for a Turkey address). After I put my CC details and click on BUY, it just goes into pending and doesn't go any further. I've tried it a couple of times with 2 different cards and still the same result. I've checked my accounts and it has PENDING but it doesn't look like it's successfully subscribed.

    Not sure if I'm doing something wrong. Any advise would be much appreciated! :)

    Thank you!!! Success on Android phone after:

    • Installing Urban VPN from the Google Play Store.
    • Opening the Urban VPN app and setting to Turkiye.
    • Checking isp location is in Turkey on WhatIsMyIPAddress
    • Going to YouTube Premium subscribe page in phone browser (not YouTube app).
    • Clicking family membership (as default renewal setting is individual membership).
    • Adding payment details (I used ING Visa debit card)
    • I didn't put in a Turkish address in the payment method, in fact didn't put any address at all, since the address fill-in box disappeared and a map pointer icon appeared saying Turkiye.

    • All smoothly went through and I switched off all VPN and made sure my YouTube account page showed it was monthly family subscription in TRY ₺59.99

    • Previously I'd tried using Windscribe VPN app on my Android phone but after I finally got it to say my location was Turkey, the payment wanted Canadian dollars, so I gave up and tried Urban VPN. Also noting that you can do the whole Urban VPN app thing without any sign-in or account at all or email etc.

        Yes I used the ING Orange Everyday Visa debit card that comes with your normal Orange Everyday transaction account. Looks like you might have had success with the Philippines option anyway :)

    I ended up using Philippines using Urban VPN IOS nothing else works after using India last year. I did notice it tried to open the app which was ₱209.00/mo where the website was ₱159.00/mo

    I cant get back on this deal, I use to have this but my card changed and just cant get back on after 5hrs of going around in circles.
    The only VPN that got me close is URBAN, but now Google have blocked all my cards leaving me me with no payment options. Checked with the bank, but its not there end.
    Google now want me to verify my acct and I cant purchase anything.

    Hey YTPremium addicts, I would just like to update anyone who could be reading these forums trying to get this to work. I own an iPhone and a computer, so I cannot speak for the workaround that someone earlier posted using Androids, but I will lay out what happened with all the other methods.
    The controllable variables of each of my attempts, I have used UrbanVPN for every single attempt, varying between Argentina, India, Turkey and Philippines. I have tried both VISA and Mastercard from BOQ and Commbank respectively. I have used fake address generators for each attempt that has allowed me to enter in an address
    Firstly the iPhone:
    ■ I've tried using the 1 week free trial UrbanVPN and successfully got to the Premium purchase screen through the YouTube mobile app, however every single time it would return the errors "YTransaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country. [OR_RECR_05]". or "Your request failed. Use a different payment method, or contact us. Learn more [OR-CCSEH-21]"
    ■ I've tried a suggestion from an earlier page to use the chrome phone browser version, and that redirected me to the safari page version of YouTube. They would also return the same errors as mentioned.
    Lastly on my PC:
    ■I've tried using Edge, Chrome and Firefox at the suggestion of other users, they all return the same errors as above.
    ■I've tried editing my google payments page to add a manual address there, but it has either had no effect, or asked for verification and government ID (Turkey) for proof.
    ■I've tried setting up a completely brand new account to act as the paying proxy for a family account, however I get the exact same errors with a completely fresh account with no history or previous personal details.

    The only thing that I can think of that I haven't tried yet, and would love some insight into is creating an Argentinian debit card, which would hopefully fix the requirement of a payment method from the VPN'd country, but that seems very complicated, and I don't have an Argentinian friends with bank accounts already for me to test this theory on. I have tried going through wise.com to create card that has Argentinian pesos as its' currency, but that requires an Argentinian bank account for some reason, so it was back to square one from there.

    If anyone has a workaround that I haven't mentioned above that hasn't worked for me, I would greatly appreciate it, as I've tried everything but physically going to a Turkey, India, Argentina to grab myself a card.

    Tried using PIA and Urban VPN, both 28 degrees and UP cards on Turkey, India and Philippines, no luck.

    As a side note, for anybody who has a VPN anyway. My current solution for YouTube premium (which let's face it, is really for phone use, because you can always ad-block on computers) is to set your VPN to Monaco, which doesn't seem to attract ads. Only features left I'm really missing is the floating window and background play, but it'll do for now.

    Tried multiple times using different combinations of VPNs, browsers, countries, cards and all failed.
    What worked for me was to setup a new Google account, choose region as Turkey then add payment method (I used ING Orange Everyday debit card).
    Setup Family then invite and accept with VPN on (Urban VPN)
    Subscribe to YT Premium, card details pre-filled, only need to enter CVV.
    Done all these in an Android device.
    For any member who has Australian payment method, I had to delete AU payment profile before able to accept invite. This messed up my Opinion Rewards (lost all my credits), Wallet (can't load money in myki, but able to use my debit cards tap to pay), and Google Play (all apps, books are now in TRY). Can't seem to find a fix for that yet.

        So don't use a PC

        Previous was family with India, but no one else was really using it so i just went single user this time

    My account came up for renewal today (had previously purchased 1 year via a VPN in Turkey). Got "We can't detect your country" errors using both PIA and Tunnel Bear. Managed to get it to work with Urban VPN (and it just used the saved ANZ credit card I had on file.) So it looks like it's just a case of finding a VPN that they don't recognise. Having said that I've got a pretty bad feeling about using a free VPN like Urban, I've probably just malware'd myself but hey cheap youtube right?

    Had to sign out of YouTube and I cleared browsing history in case and closed browser.
    Used Urban VPN to Argentina.
    Logged back into YouTube.
    ING visa card rejected, CBA mastercard worked.
    (699 ARS to ~$4.59 AUD monthly family plan).

    An update in case it can help someone.
    I had Argentina account for a while and recently, my Coles mastercard was declined. So, my premium membership lapsed.
    I used Windscribe VPN for Instanbul, Lygos and checked my IP address (https://whatismyipaddress.com/) and it showed up as Turkey, Istanbul.
    However, the pricing came up as EGP 89.99/mo for family membership. I did the conversion and that works out to be AUD 4.38.
    Paid using my Coles Mastercard. Entered an Egyptian address and it went through.
    I didn't have to change my country or profile.
    Hopefully this can work for others too :)

    Successfully purchased family for 59.99TRY after a number of failed attempts.

    Context:
    I had an existing YT premium account with Turkish payment profile previously (my CC expired and when I updated details it gave me the following error:

    Transaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country. [OR-REH-05]

    Solution:
    Urban VPN, Turkey using Android mobile via the YouTube premium app. Launch app and click reactivate. Accepted AU NAB Visa card

    Sharing my experience:

    Had YT Premium Family from India with Amex (!) earlier. Finally got declined this month.

    NordVPN to Türkiye with ING Debit Visa - "This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country"

    Have no Mastercard to try the recommendation above, nor an Android device.

    Ended up getting Türkiye YT Premium Family plan by signing up using the iOS YouTube app. Paying with App Store credits, so will need to top up with iTunes gift card. There's also the IAP tax, making it TRY ₺79.99 instead.

    At least it worked…YT without Premium is unbearable at this point.

    So tried multiple cards (ING/Up/Amex), with both Windscribe and UrbanVPN, on both PC and Android.

    I was only able to get 12 months with Up with UrbanVPN set to India. Türkiye on desktop would just keep spinning, on my phone it would keep rejecting the cards. India it wouldn't let me use my card for monthly recurring (it mentions something on the payment screen about indian regulations making them verify it can accept auto payments?), however 12 months worked just fine (via desktop).

    Hi Guys, just share my experience to move to Turkey
    1. Use Android device. Phones or tablets. This is a MUST. PC, Apple won't work
    2. Use you android device to download Urban VPN. You may use other apps but this worked for me and it is free. It has 100Mb per day limit but it should be enough for you to finish all the settings.
    3. VPN set to Turkey, then establish a new google account, follow the original steps and set up a payment method (AU's card is fine).
    4. Invite up to 5 family members.
    5. Make sure your family members are not currently with any other family groups, and their google accounts' payment method must be EMPTY, unless they have a Turkey payment method. This is very important otherwise they cann't join your invitation
    6. Login to your family members' google account under the running of Turkey VPN. Accept the inviation

    Worked for me via Argentina. Urban VPN on android.

    The only thing I had to do differently was add a card on payments.google.com (after creating an Argentina payment profile).

    I tried adding the same card at checkout but that always gave me an error about the billing country. Hopefully this helps someone else.

    Just moved to Turkey from India due to CC expiring and not able to process new expiry for billing. Had to use UrbanVPN but had to turn it on/off till it showed up with Turkish Lira. Took a fair few goes but finally it popped up.

    Also moved to Turkey from India. Connected to Turkey from my free getflix vpn. Had to delete the YouTube app from my ipad as it kept opening it when going to the link and coming up in Aud. After that though it loaded up fine on the site in Lira. Was able to select a 12 month plan for 299 lira, saves a few dollars at least. Purchased fine with my 28degrees card. All working well.

    I've currently got an AU Family Plan with the primary account also having a subscription to Flightradar24 among other things, in addition to having Google Wallet functionality.

    If I deactivate the AU Family Plan and go for a YT Premium subscription via Turkey can someone let me know if this will alter my other subscriptions / Google Wallet?

    Hi all, kept on getting the "Transaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country. [OR-REH-05]" message with the Turkish premium (with commbank card) the only thing worked was the Philippines (Jai Hind Fillipino!!). Granted it came to approx $4.34 with current exchange rate :(

    Anyways, better then paying the exorbitant AUD price youtube throws at us.

        go to Google.com.au -> click your profile pic -> manage your google account -> payment and subscriptions -> manage payment methods -> settings -> remove the non Turkey payment profile

            @DUD19: you only have 1 profile then. Is that already a Turkey profile? if yes then go to the android Youtube app with VPN and you should the subscription in TRY.

              My only option is to close the payment profile, not remove or delete.

                @DUD19: my bad "Close the payment profile" is the correct term and that is what you need to click in order to remove / delete the payment profile.

    Well I am an idiot. After faffing around for ages, i realised my youtube app was set to Australia in settings. Once i changed that to turkey (with the vpn on) everything worked worked.

      THANK YOU. have been trying everything for the last few weeks/month and this finally worked with Urban VPN + App. When using android + browser + Nord/Urban VPN it still kept telling me all my cc (MQ bank cc/UP/ING) were not the right country.

      What I did using android phone
      1. YT app change settings to Turkey
      2. Urban VPN on to Turkey
      3. Open YT app and go to premium in settings
      4. Selected monthly/family/annual plan (it should display plan in TRY (if settings have Australia this will remain AUD)
      5. Pay via app google pay card (with ccv verification) with no issue.

    Hey all, after pulling my hair out trying to get this work I read all the comments and that sent me in the right direction of using Urban VPN on my mobile and thanks to the author!! I could not load urban vpn onto my pc, windscribe came up in UK pounds as did surfshark on my pc.
    So for me Urban VPN on your mobile phone. Good luck!!

    I tried with Express VPN, I keep getting euro pricing. I ended switching to the Phillipines and getting the family plan for $6 AUD. But next month I will see if I can save even more by using UrbanVPN.

    For anybody wanting to give it a try, I ended up setting up a Proxy server on a Turkey VPS for my PS5 to purchase a Turkey Playstation Plus subscription, and I still have about 10 months left on the VPS. It's not a VPN, but it will likely do the trick for purposes of showing you're in Turkey. I've had successful reports of it working for the PS Plus purchasing.

    If you're wanting to give it a go, configure your browser to use the following proxy details: 185.219.134.94 port 8119 - tick the box that says "use this proxy for HTTPS as well".
    Double-check it's working by browsing to https://www.whatismyip.com/ and confirming it saying that your location is Turkey.

    To note: I have not tried this as I don't care much about Youtube Premium, please let me know if it does/does not work.

    @OP - if this works I'm happy for you to add some info onto your original description with the above details as an alternative to using a VPN. If it works. VPS runs out on 18 March 2024.

    Tried everything, PC, Android, Iphone various VPNs and cards. Nothing worked.
    But Phillipines did work first try on Firefox + Urban VPN … more expensive. Around $6-7 family.

    This worked for me just now:
    1. Use Urban connected to Turkey on an Android device to create a new gmail account.
    2. Add family members to the account. Family members do not have to be connected through a Turkish VPN when they accept the invite.
    3. Use the Youtube app on an Android device to subscribe to premium. I used a Wise card and it worked fine.

    The same Wise card did not work on my main account when trying to subscribe through iOS, no idea if it would have worked if I created a new account on the iOS device.

    Been trying to update the payment method for a YouTube Family based on Turkey, and I've tried the following VPNs, on a combination of PC and Android YouTube app and browser:

    • Private Internet Access
    • NordVPN
    • Urban VPN (one that many seem to recommend here)
    • CyberGhost
    • Surfshark
    • Tunnelbear (blanks out on the YouTube Premium Page)
    • Windscribe
    • PureVPN
    • Proton VPN
    • Ivacy

    I've also tried it for Argentina and Turkey.

    I don't think it's a VPN issue. I've also tried it with numerous different cards.

    Hitting blanks..

    The Indian YT Premium sub failed because of CC rejection.

    Really appreciate everyone's help here.

    What worked for me:
    * PC
    * UrbanVPN, set to Philippines
    * YT Family costs A$6.38/month

    What didn't work (kept getting the local billing country error, even after manually putting in Turkey / Argentina addresses)
    * PC or Mac
    * UrbanVPN or Windscript (3 region paid plan). Turkey, Argentina
    * 28 degrees and Coles CC, neither worked

        28 degrees Mastercard. Existing Google account. No change to family membership.

        Took 5 min with Philippines, spent 2 hours trying every other combo I listed above…
