OP I think the link is broken - should be https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07YKYZ5YD

  • Thanks op bought one..although reviews are not that good for wifi functionality (integration with alexa and google)

  • +6

    Didn't need it…… bought it.

  • Where can we get the oils for a good price? Any recommendations?

    • I get mine from the local bargain/junk shop. Kmart isn't awful either, but has limited range.

      • +1

Gross. Don't buy that cheap crap. Literally smells like toilet spray for $2

Spend $ on oils that are decent. Makes a world of difference.
We bought some Doterra oils awhile ago and though they're pricey, definitely worth it. (They also last ages)

        • +1

Agreed, essential oils are much better than cheap chemical fragrance. My favourite is Tangerine and Lemongrass is good too.

        • +1

Agreed, I got some Natio ones from Amazon, $10-13.

Lemongrass and eucalyptus is the go.

Ps. Got this diffuser, was more aesthetically pleasing, not too big, good reviews and rated no. 2:

          ASAKUKI 300ML Essential Oil… https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07RLZ24GD?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_s…

Wouldn't bother about the smart side of things, some said it doesn't work in the comments for the one in this deal, but $20 is pretty good price.

    • I go to Kmart, they are $2-3 each

  • +1

Its saying all coupons are now claimed.

  • hey Op - no longer claimable - sale now over

  • I don't understand, how does it diffuse wifi?

    • because it's smart?

    • We can turn on/off with Alexa or google home

    • -2

The same way a router or any other wifi device does.

With a wifi chipset and antenna.

  • +1

Thanks. Bought it for regular price

  • +2

    shows as $20

  • +3

    The Onion Retuns !

  • +4

Now available at $20, which is probably the REAL regular price.

Buy some other diffuser.. buy smart plug. Sorted.

    • Diffuser about $20, smart plug ?$15, so about $35. Makes this a bargain.

      • I was more getting at the RRP… Now that this was expired..

    • +2

A lot of diffusers require a button press to start, so that wouldn't work.

    • +2

Having a smart plug won’t activate a diffuser when power comes on. Will need to physically press the button

Bought a similar one from Amazon a while back and flashed it with Tasmota so it interfaces with Home Assistant. I'd guess this would contain an esp device in it too (therefore flashable). Looks similar to: https://templates.blakadder.com/kogan-KASHSMARDFA.html

Ordered this one and will investigate.

    • Any link to instructions? Sounds interesting.

There's heaps of tutorials out there. The majority of these IoT devices usually have the same microcontroller wifi chip on them that allows you to flash them with new firmware that can be interfaced with something like Home Assistant.

You could previously flash these over the air without taking them apart but a while back they started locking them down which required you to take them apart and attach a usb serial programmer onto it ($5-10 off ebay for the programmer). This is the method I use as in my opinion it's the easiest (though there might be new ways that I'm not familiar with as the techniques seem to change frequently).

https://esphome.io/guides/physical_device_connection.html shows a few ways as to how to flash the esphome firmware onto a device. I personally use Tasmota as this is firmware I'm familiar with.

The home assistant forum is good for info, as well as the home assistant subreddit.

My use case is that I have mine turn on an hour before I wake up (detects if I'm home, if I'm not home it will not run in the morning) and an hour after I come home from work on weekdays. On the weekend it turns on (again if I'm home in the morning) and shuts off at night. Requires me to top up water a few times a week though.

    • As an update to this, it seems like these devices come with the tuya WBR3 wifi module in it (which isn't compatible with tasmota). People seem to be swapping these with an ESP12F module but I don't know if I'm motivated enought to do that at the moment.

      • Hardly need these to be smart, just select the appropriate time you want on the buttons.
Probably still 'works with Google' for basic on/off voice commands.

        • Depends on your use case I guess. I don't like having multiple apps on my phone to control the smart devices in my home. Home Assistant takes care of all of that. The tuya integration might help that, but also don't want a device that phones home to china.

          • @koom: Fair enough, whatever works.
Hard getting native tuya on all devices.
Wouldn't worry about chi-nar can't imagine them hacking into your network.

My diffuser isn't smart so that solves that issue.

  • If anyone is at uni and has access to an evidence database, do a search on these. They create air pollution in the home and are not good for your lungs at all.

    • Oh dear. Really? If anyone has references or evidence to support these being bad for the lungs, would be much appreciated.

      Link mate?
Some people are worried about everything.

Can't be worse than the crusty old kent next door that smokes.

  • I use it for when I'm sick, put a few drops of eucalyptus oil and it really helps with congestion and eases the crappy feeling in the chest and nose before sleeping at night

  • would you trust this thing on your network lol

    • +1

No different to the millions of other Tuya devices out there I'd say, so can you trust any of them really?

  • I saw this deal yesterday. The item is still in stock and only $3.15 more if anyone still wants one for $20.99
